@NowYouListenToMeFella

Thanks for the new thread. Gorgeous cats all round.

Can I ask if anyone has had a cat like Tom. Adopted him in February, he's around 15 months now and was semi feral if not feral. No idea of his background. No way could I attempt to pet him. He runs away if I get too close to him when just going about my normal business. If anyone knocks on the door or calls he legs it and hides.

I just want him to be comfortable around me and not be so anxious. Is there is anything I can do to help him?

Mine were 2 year old ferals when they came home - one year feral one year at the rescue hiding from everybody. Took me months & months before Girlcat let me touch her, and Boycat took a year. Both (5 years later) are VERY demanding of cuddles. So patience. And plenty of bribery!
AlfonsoTheTerrible · 14/05/2021 08:23

Feliway might help, too. And seconding the recommendation for Zylkene.

cricketmum84 · 14/05/2021 08:24

Yay thanks for the new thread 🐈

Ivy and Betsy have just got over zoomie hour. They literally just chase each other from one end of the house to the other occasionally stopping to wrestle.

They have worn each other out and napping now thank god!

They are also sulking at me because I ran out of wet food and there is no tuna in the house. They will surely starve to death on only biscuits until 5.30pm!

NowYouListenToMeFella · 14/05/2021 10:46

Thanks a mill for the Zylkene recommendations. I'll give that a go. Had the felliwsy diffuser. Must buy a refill.

cricketmum84 · 14/05/2021 11:06

@NowYouListenToMeFella I have the refills on repeat order from Amazon so I don't have to remember to order them. Plus you get money off for repeat orders.

Betsy was similar when we first adopted her. She was found in someone's garden at a week old with no mum or siblings around. She was handreared alone so wasn't socialised. She would bite anyone who went near her when we adopted her at 10 weeks old. A year on and she accepts loves and ear washes from our older cat. You can't pick her up though and the only strokes she tolerates are ear tickles and they must be on her terms.

About once a month she comes and lays next to me on an evening. These are the most precious times because she has actually chosen to come and snuggle. She will take a finger off if you try to stroke her body or tail though.

It's really such a special feeling when a grumpy cat actually looks for some affection from you.

NowYouListenToMeFella · 14/05/2021 11:14

I might run over to the pet shop now. An unexpected morning off work as all our systems are down due to some sort of attack.

Beamur · 14/05/2021 11:23

My day started with treading in cold cat sick as I opened the curtains.
Am I in the right place?
My experience with nervy cats is time, patience and consistency. Let them set the pace. Even my super friendly oriental cats don't always want to be fussed or petted. I think with a shy one you do have to build trust slowly.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 14/05/2021 11:54

Gratuitous pic of Leroy for the new thread.

Glad you're feeling a bit better Super, even if it is the meds. If it works, it works. Good luck for tomorrow. 💐

@Beamur you’re home, love, but with nothing nasty lurking next to the bed.

Two lovely black cats to make our day. Gratuitous pix always the best.

Under the guise of healthcare duties, Capn has been snoring with me for some hours. Is now helping me with feeding the bed bound.

Brown cats always look so exotic. It’s a lovely coat colour.

Good luck for tomorrow Lana.

@QueenPaw Have you done the cat saving mission yet?.

QueenPaw · 14/05/2021 19:57

@Fluffycloudland77 nope, am awaiting day and instructions!

Beamur · 14/05/2021 22:30

Ha ha. She actually is an amazingly beautiful and elegant looking cat but looks pretty dopey in the photo!

Papergirl1968 · 14/05/2021 22:46

Good luck, Lana! Will be thinking of you and sending healing vibes.

Thanks for all the advice it's most welcome. This is my first time having a cat so it's great to have this thread. He slept in his little man cave in my room again last night.

Here is a pic of him looking for treats yesterday.

My little antisocial fluff Betsy actually jumped up to sleep at the side of me on the sofa again last night!! We have had her for a year in July and she has done this about 5 times in total.

I felt very honoured!
