Ivy and Betsy have just spent the day melting. Must be tough wearing big black fur coats when it's so warm outside!

Does anyone have any ideas to help them cool down? Especially Betsy who is very long haired and got very overheated last summer.

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/05/2021 21:53

You can buy pet cooling mats on the Internet. They won’t use them because their cats but it gives you something to point at on hot days.

😂😂 brilliant
QueenPaw · 31/05/2021 22:44

Yeah I switch the fan on which Ollie lies by the side of. So it's still terrifying but none of the cooling benefits
Today he's flopped around again whinging, begrudgingly gone outside in the shade (it was nice and breezy!) then lightly boiled himself on a.. self heating mat ConfusedHmm

YesItsMeIDontCare · 31/05/2021 23:48

I dunno if it's right or not, but I give Leroy a once over with a slightly damp towel when we come in if it hot. He seems to like it so 🤷🏼‍♀️. Then he lies on the windowsill in the north facing room - we can have the windows locked open just enough for a little cool breeze.

QueenPaw · 01/06/2021 00:18

Apparently this is the most suitable sleeping spot for hot weather
Someone needs to have a word with him

Ollie cracks me up. And Leroy is so pampered, exactly as he should be of course!

I've discovered that Walter is inviting himself into my next door neighbour's house! Cheeky boy.

cricketmum84 · 01/06/2021 06:57

Good thinking, I'll get the fan out today. I remember last year when she was a kitten actually she would lay in front of it. We nicknamed her Beyoncé because it would blow her fur around 😂 like Beyoncé on stage with the big wind machine 😂

Will definitely try the damp towel too. Ivy doesn't seem bothered by the heat but Betsy just flops and starts panting. I got her checked out by the vet as I've never seen a cat pant before but she gave her a clean bill of health and suggested she might just be "a bit strange". Which sounds about right.

cricketmum84 · 01/06/2021 13:57

Ivy is pretty sure I should be snuggling instead of working...

It's really hot today but it hasn't stopped Sybil from coming outside to join us in the full glate of the sun (nothing to do with the chicken legs we are eating I'm sure).

Animum2 · 01/06/2021 15:39

And now she has melted...

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats Sybil is so pretty!! Ivy only liked to drink from the tap too. We got her a cat fountain which they both love now.

Leroy will try to grab the box out of your hands, regardless of size!

He spent the day dyin', Mumma, absolutely dyin' but we're out now and there's quite a nice breeze.

LikeAnOldFriend · 01/06/2021 19:53

Our very handsome NMC visitor, who has our kids (and me! Blush) absolutely besotted whenever he hops over the fence! Grin

Next doors cat is pottering about happily in the heat. He's 21 and looking very stiff now but is still the boss
Strolled in, straight to ollies toys and the catnip. Ollie was "but they MY toys?"
Next doors cat growled at him Grin
Ollie "ok you have them" Grin

coastergirl · 02/06/2021 00:46

What would you all do on a night like tonight if your cat refused to come in?

Walter does this every now and again. He was asleep on my lap from maybe 9-10 then went off playing. I've left the door open because it's warm. I needed to go to bed so I called him in. He sat in the garden looking at me, edged towards me then stopped. Then as soon as I moved towards him, he ran away. He won't come in and I really need to sleep, so I've locked him out. There's a window that he could get in through if he used his brain! I feel awful every time this happens but he's always ok.

I hate the guilty feeling!

QueenPaw · 02/06/2021 00:49

I would have done the same as you. Ollie gets a "FIVE minutes!" When he goes out for his last patrol

JoanOgden · 02/06/2021 08:32

I couldn't get to sleep until midnight last night as my cat (unusually) didn't come in until then. It's ridiculous as she has a cat flap and can't get out to the road, so I really shouldn't worry, but I do Blush
