Orphaned Kitten

Hi, does anyone have any experience with an orphaned kitten? They were found abandoned by their mum, in a friend of a friends garden. This one seems a little behind the others, and I have the time so am happy to help him. I’ve done a lot of reading and a vet has aged him at 5/6 weeks.

Does anyone have any tips? He’s so affectionate, and is bottle feeding at the moment, preparing to be weaned properly. Does anyone recommend a good wet food to make a slurry?

And how can I help him with grooming? He accidentally smooshed a bit of poo on his back legs and stinks but I don’t want to hurt him 😩

Thankyou!

So adorable.

@Em8725
❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for pic update , that’s actually a very good pic showing his markings ...and those feetsies ❤️❤️❤️
He is utterly gorgeous and he’s going to be a very very beautiful adult cat and it sounds like he’s developing so much each day he really is going to be the perfect cat x

Em8725 · 22/04/2021 08:23

@SappysCurry I’m a little worried as he hasn’t done a poo for 24 hours. We did have to change his milk as I couldn’t find the one the vet gave me for love nor money, the vet was also out of stock. It could just be that.

I’ve tried stimulating him but I’m not sure what to do next!

Pumpkin - proper pumpkin, not the tinned pie filling - is good for constipation.

And Frankie is so adorable! Lookit him stretched out in the sun.

Em8725 · 22/04/2021 09:01

And now he’s had his breakfast he’s limping, and not putting any weight on one leg. I have no idea what’s happened, he was absolutely fine last night.

I’m exhausted, he’s more worry than any other cat or child I’ve ever had!

Oh @Em8725 they're a nightmare sometimes! Mine developed a sudden limp, mid pandemic, while I was shielding, and the day before pay day
I took him to the vet and said "walk for the nice vet" and he sat in the corner glowering at me and refused to walk HmmAngry

MrsCatE · 22/04/2021 09:32

Oh dear. You said he had a fall from the Cat Tree so think it’s time for the vet. You may be able to combine with worming / vaccinations. BastardCat was teeny when he got his first set of vaccinations.

Frank is gorgeous.

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/04/2021 11:20

Yeah I’d ring the vet too.

He’s so little it’s easy to damage little limbs. Mine was always bloody limping because he’d jump off 6” brick walls 🤦🏻‍♀️.

claireb7rg · 22/04/2021 11:46

Oh he's gorgeous! And so dinky 😍😍

We've just rescued a 8 month old kitten. And I thought she was tiny (compared to our older boy) but Frank is miniature

Whatpaint · 22/04/2021 15:07

How is Frank doing?

Em8725 · 22/04/2021 15:38

@Whatpaint I phoned the vet and they told me to crate him and keep an eye on him. If no change by tomorrow they’ll see him tomorrow. He’s walking on it a little bit better this afternoon but we’ll see how he gets on tonight

Whatpaint · 22/04/2021 15:54

Oh glad they don't seem overly worried and he is walking a little better this afternoon. Hope he and you have a good night.

MrsCatE · 22/04/2021 16:58

Hope it’s just soft tissue damage and not ligaments or bone. Sweet how he rushed to you for reassurance! X

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 22/04/2021 17:58

Poor Frank. I hope it's just a minor sprain.

cricketmum84 · 23/04/2021 08:05

Oh bless him. Hope he is doing better today.

Our ivy once hurt her leg and was refusing to put any weight on it at all. Took her to the vets and they asked to see her walking and she just strutted about like there was nothing wrong! Totally showed me up.

Em8725 · 23/04/2021 09:35

He does seem much better today. He was walking on it absolutely fine last night. Today he seems to have a slight limp but if you aren’t looking for it you can’t see it.

DH said he was fine whilst I was at work and running around like there was no tomorrow 😂

Oh he’s lovely! Just caught up on the whole thread

Tip for him to have a poo, give him a diamond shaped massage on his tum in a clockwise direction. Never fails to work!

Em8725 · 23/04/2021 11:33

@AngelDelightUk
Thankyou, I did that and he did a huge one! I think it’s the new milk. I honestly feel like I’ve got a newborn baby, when you agonise over the tiny little things like what consistency and how often they’re toileting, whether they cry/how often he eats. I need to chill out a bit 😂😂😂

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 23/04/2021 12:42

That's great news about Frank!

AngelDelightUk · 23/04/2021 12:52

He’s tiny and he is your baby, you’re going to be worrying about him. He’s an absolute little cutie, I’ve always had dogs but I’d love a cat as well.

That’s actually a human massage technique, but since discovering it worked on animals too it’s just been a godsend, especially for little ones like Frank A friend of mine was panicking over her cat a couple of years ago who hadn’t gone for about three days and I recommended it. He was the same, in minutes had a massive poo! Most animals don’t seem to mind you doing it to them too xx

Whatpaint · 23/04/2021 14:17

So pleased his digestion is better and his leg seems to be a lot better too.

You do realise it is two days since we had a photo......Wink

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/04/2021 14:24

At least with a human baby the midwife comes round for a few weeks.

Em8725 · 23/04/2021 16:00

After some more hobbling we saw the vet. Yet another fee and some painkillers, we are home. They’ve said they think it’s a fracture but there’s nothing they can do because he’s so small. Hopefully this will bring the swelling down. Poor little sausage

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 23/04/2021 16:24

Oh dear, is he back in his cage?.

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 23/04/2021 17:22

Poor baby. A fracture isn't very fun. I am guessing that kitten bones are like children's bones and that they are soft(ish).
