Looks like Woody loves his Mummy 🥰. Leroy treadles my face 🙄

Where d'you live Paper? Sounds like I need to bathe in your canal...

Papergirl1968 · 03/03/2021 23:27

The not very picturesque Black Country, Yes! Grin Although to be fair we are right on the very edge of it, close to the Staffordshire border, which is where that particular cut is. (Cut = canal)

YesItsMeIDontCare · 04/03/2021 00:04

The not very picturesque Black Country,

I'm in Birmingham... the even less picturesque!!!

I have a lot of family in the Black Country - Brownhills, Pelsall, Aldridge, those bits.

Supersimkin2 · 04/03/2021 08:32

I've always wanted to go to Birmingham. Hope the dog is ok, @Papergirl1968, bless her Staffie socks.

Londoner through and through here - if you're not mugged or run over within moments of leaving the house, I don't feel I've had my money's worth. Holidays can be startling.

Cap'n mews with a Cockney accent. On me now, rumbly purring, Danny Dyer style.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 04/03/2021 08:45

We hired a canal boat on the Birmingham Canal Navigations for a week years ago. Not always pretty scenery but really interesting. And of course there are more miles of canal in Birmingham than in Venice.

Venice, the Birmingham of Italy? Grin

YesItsMeIDontCare · 04/03/2021 08:57

I was at uni in London Super. Whitechapel. I used to live near Shadwell Dock 😱

Birmingham not only has more miles of canals than Venice Grumpy, it also has more junk dumped in them!!!

swampytiggaa · 04/03/2021 09:03

@Papergirl1968 @YesItsMeIDontCare I’m from Wednesbury originally! We emigrated to Devon 11 years ago now 😊 my mom and brother are still there

Allergictoironing · 04/03/2021 09:27

I'm at home for a few days, which the cats are loving.

Woke up Tuesday morning, sat up & promptly fell over. Went to get out of bed, waves of dizziness & collapsed again. Improved after that, but every time I moved quickly or stood up felt dizzy again. Obviously couldn't drive, or patrol on foot at work like that, so stayed home.

Yesterday called the GP, apparently I have labyrinthitis, so another day housebound until the pills kick in which luckily my lovely DSis picked up for me yesterday. Boycat was much chuffed at a full hour dozing snuggled up on the bed this morning instead of the usual 15 mins!

Papergirl1968 · 04/03/2021 09:38

Goodness, Allergic, that sounds horrible. Boycat sounds like he has a great bedside manner.
Black Country folk are salt of the earth. No side on them at all. Although I did yearn to live in London when I was younger. Wouldn’t be able to afford a rabbit hutch there though.
Now my dream is to live by the sea, so I’m deeply envious, Swampy.

TheLongRider · 04/03/2021 09:41

Mum's from Brum and still talks about the bombing in WW2. She went to boarding school in Oulton near Stone.

I hope you recover soon @Allergictoironing. Labyrinthitis is horrible, like being drunk with none of the fun of getting there.

Hope you're feeling better soon too Allergic. Looking on the bright side at least the cats are pleased.

I have a foot in both camps too. Mum came from Wednesfield and Dad from Shoreditch. I've never lived in either but I would imagine that they were very different places in the 1920s anyway Grin

swampytiggaa · 04/03/2021 10:00

We actually moved from Solihull but I never really settled there properly. Oddly where I live reminds me of my home town... the people are very similar and I feel like I’ve always lived here.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 04/03/2021 10:24

I'm Solihull born & bred Swampy!

Sending you (((hugs))) Allergic. Hope you feel better very soon. Enjoy the kitty cuddles while you can.

Papergirl1968 · 04/03/2021 11:47

(Waves to everyone with West Midlands connections)

Allergictoironing · 04/03/2021 12:08

I had an ex-BF from the Black Country - Dudley in fact! He used to spell in text messages with the accent too, could take me ages to work out what he meant some times (I'm Kent born, raised & still there now).

Plus points of having this labyrinthitis - Boycat cuddles, watching the cricket, slobbing all day, saving on car parking. Minus points - only been in the new job just over a month, a bit bored, feeling weird every now & again, not able to shower as I can't risk falling over as I step into the bath! But pills seem to be kicking in already, so hopefully will be back in either tomorrow or for the weekend.

Seems my mobile has been spoofed - just got my 3rd call in 3 days saying they'd missed a call from my number...

nettie434 · 04/03/2021 20:01

I'm another person that likes the West Midlands and people! Born in Leamington - very different in my day. I was very shocked when friend told me that the very basic chemist we knew in which Lemon Delph cleanser was the ultimate beauty product now sold some brand of £100 moisturiser.

Sorry about your labyrinthitis Allergic. I've not had it but I know it can be nasty. I don't like being the bearer of bad news but sometimes even though it usually only lasts a few days, it can take a few weeks for the dizziness to go completely. Hoping yours goes quickly obviously.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 04/03/2021 21:32

There was a clothes shop in Leamington that sold everything for a fiver. Was that there in your time nettie? One of those places that more often than not had nothing decent, but occasionally you could pick up a real gem.
There was also a new-age/spiritual/hippie/bo-ho shop which I loved. Sold fabulous tie-dye babygros but had closed down by the time DS was born.

Toddlerteaplease · 04/03/2021 21:51

My mum had labarynthitis, it's awful. Hope you feel better soon.

Toddlerteaplease · 04/03/2021 21:53

The late Fatty had surgery at a vair posh vet hospital in Solihull. I've never seen so many push car dealers in one place. And some very nice houses.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 04/03/2021 22:16

Was that Willows Toddler? Top of the range cutting edge veterinary medicine and equipment - you can only get there by referral I believe.

DH works round around the corner 😁.

Toddlerteaplease · 04/03/2021 22:33

Yes, it was the Willows. I was so impressed with them. I believe they are a normal local vet as well. The final check up cost £150 and madam refused to come out of her basket! I said "she's fine" and that was that. All
Over in five minutes. Grin

nettie434 · 05/03/2021 20:31

That shop sounds as if it was since my time, YesItsMeIDontCare. I wish it had been there - it sounds fantastic. We had to content ourselves with Dorothy Perkins!

YesItsMeIDontCare · 05/03/2021 22:29

Probably before your time then nettie, I'm old!
