What does your dcat eat that you wouldn't expect

Ours likes crumpets, when he was a kitten I discovered one I had left out to defrost had been nibbled all round the edge. Eating one this morning he jumped up beside on the couch(v. unusual) to beg a bit.

Mind you one of my colleagues cats likes curry and will lick any unattended plates left after a meal!

Pretzels - no other human food. I got a death stare for offering her a peanut.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/12/2020 19:10

Baked beans, steak, IKEA meatballs, bread. Pasta.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/12/2020 19:12

All of our childhood cats loved yoghurt. But none of my girls like it.

Missthedog · 07/12/2020 19:15

Cats are brilliant. My cat eats anything but will only drink water out of the dog's bowl. Walks past it's own dishes every time 🤣

ponygirlcurtis · 07/12/2020 19:24

Foodstuffs my cats have stolen to eat:
Chicken/ham/cheese
Crisps
Cheerios
Spinach/lettuce
Pasta
Any leftovers or liquid from any plate or bowl, no matter how spicy
Gnawed the side off a fresh-out-of-the-oven cake once
Silicone (doesn't eat it I don't think but does strip it from my doors and windows and run about with it dangling out the mouth)

Trying to prepare food with them around is a nightmare! My last cat only bothered with tuna, these guys are grubbers!

OhMsBeliever · 07/12/2020 19:34

Mine loves crisps. I can't eat them without him begging and trying to steal them, especially cheese flavours, and chilli heatwave Doritos. He also loves garlic bread.

DuzzyFuck · 07/12/2020 19:42

DCat came bounding over to investigate the orange DP was eating earlier, despite cats supposedly not liking citrus. He's also a big fan of edamame beans, oddly.

PTW1234 · 07/12/2020 19:47

There is literally nothing my cat would not eat. We can not leave food out anywhere.

I saw him bite the head off a live mouse on our doorstep once (he is a very large cat!)

hellsbellswithcherryontop · 07/12/2020 20:00

One day this summer next doors cat appeared on our back doorstep with a whole chicken breast in his mouth, we think he'd pinched someones lunch, he looked v. proud of himself!

LabiaMinoraPissusFlapus · 07/12/2020 20:03

Cauliflower, he scoffs it down like a pig. Broccoli too! And potatoes. And omelettes.

ponygirlcurtis · 07/12/2020 20:07

hellsbellswithcherryontop that reminds me, my cats went through a period of returning home with 'foraged goods' - slices of ham, a beefburger, half a sausage roll, and one time a huge chunk of gammon that he speedily scarfed in front of the catflap door because he knew I would take it off him if he came in. They must have been filching from my neighbours' kitchens. Blush Like I said, grubbers!

ChickyNuggies · 07/12/2020 20:07

Literally everything. Will come and nibble on whatever you are curre toy shoving into your gob. She's rude.

This is my first ever cat and I am astounded at how rude they are. I am hopelessly in love with her and everything she does though.

GreenCat44 · 07/12/2020 20:32

Grin @ChickyNuggies does she do that thing where they try to redirect the spoon with her paw? Mine would pull food out of my mouth if he could get away with it!

LouJ85 · 07/12/2020 20:33

McDonald's chips. So we discovered by accident!

InTropicalTrumpsLand · 07/12/2020 20:36

Mine absolutely adores lemongrass. She throws herself at it whenever she sees it like a desperate madcat and will happily swallow, and swallow, and swallow... Somehow doesn't make her sick!

Toddlerteaplease · 07/12/2020 22:44

My friend has a cat that will chew through plastic wrappers to get at biscuits and crumpets. Everything has to be kept away from her. Wish my pair were that clever

Easttt · 07/12/2020 22:47

My dearly departed cat used to love crisps especially cheese & onion and Wotsits 😂

Elzbells · 07/12/2020 23:17

Both mine love a McDonald's burger. They appear and practically crawl into the bag to get some. I have to get a double quarter pounder so I have enough to share out.

They are both really quite old now but if I feel they are coming to the end of their days I will be getting them their own McDonald's burgers as the last meal!

Tavannach · 08/12/2020 06:38

Parmesan. Grating a little on top of cat food she's turned her nose up at means it gets eaten. She also likes porridge.

ChickyNuggies · 08/12/2020 10:00

@GreenCat44

She does!!!!! Cheeky little so and so she is. Also just positions herself Infront of my face as the cutlery approaches!

I had a cat who came in over the garden fence complete with a freshly cooked sausage from our neighbour's bbq.

another time I was having coffee on the back patio of this neighbour. She said to me 'I think your cat has been taking the fish out of our fishpond'. I said that could not POSSIBLY be true.... just as my cat walked right through the neighbour's house and jumped on my lap..... complete with one very damp paw up to her elbow.

GlowingOrb · 08/12/2020 15:45

She will eat anything, but we knew we were in trouble when she ran off with a stick of butter as a kitten. We have to keep the butter away at all times because she will obsessively lick even the sturdiest container. She also really loves lollipops.

Confusedcatlady1 · 08/12/2020 16:11

Tinsel, old bits of dried up sellotape, newspapers and cardboard boxes (Amazon boxes are the best). When it comes to human food buttered toast and crisps are a favourite.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/12/2020 16:32

The late Maia used to eat plastic sweet wrappers. I had to be really careful where I put them, as she would knock the bin over to get at them. I would then have to chase her round the house and pull them out of her mouth covered in slobber.

Purplehatsandflowers · 08/12/2020 16:51

One of mine is mad for prawns. It is not that unusual I guess, but when I eat anything with prawns she gets really angry with me if I do not give her some- prawn korma the other day included.
