I'm going to be a foster mum (granny?)!

We lost our beautiful, gentle DC Amber at the beginning of May and have been patiently (and not so patiently) waiting for a pair of kittens to fill the massive cat-shape hole in our home and hearts.

Waiting lists for kittens at resscues where we live a ridiculously long so I found myself the other day respnding to a Facebook message asking for foster families for mums and kittens and I've just found out we are picking up a mum and her 4 babies tomorrow!

Super-excited but also a bit nervous. Poor mum gave birth a week ago and now is being uprooted into a unknown home. Just wondering if anyone has any tips?

That’s so lovely of you.

Elieza · 31/08/2020 20:29

How exciting. All those lovely feline friends waiting for cuddles (hopefully the mum is friendly). 🐈 💕

TwigTheWonderKid · 31/08/2020 21:05

It's very exciting, but a little daunting too! Mummy looks very sweet and has come from a home rather than being a stray but don't know any more yet.

Enjoy! It’s a lovely thing to bring them up from tiny kittens. A huge cardboard box and lots of towels plus nice kitten food for mum.

Please post photos!!

Lovely of you to do that! Something i wish i could do myself! Good luck 🤞🏻😽

TwigTheWonderKid · 01/09/2020 14:03

They're here. Mum seems very relaxed and friendly. Kittens kept squeaking on way home!

Squeee!! Fabulous. Mum looks like she trusts you already!

EachandEveryone · 01/09/2020 19:01

Omg just gorgeous

gypsywater · 01/09/2020 19:03

Bet you keep all of them! Grin

Ellmau · 01/09/2020 19:22

Mum is gorgeous. Do you get first call on two of the kittens?

TwigTheWonderKid · 01/09/2020 21:08

Yeah she did until I have to lift her our of the cage in a desperate attempt to make her go the loo. She hadn't been in more than 24 hours and after soem delving it transpired that in her previous home she had always gone outside to the loo, even since having the babies. I had to then fill litter tray with soil and I needed her to know it was there. She was really not happy with me getting her out and leapt sright back in with babies but joy, of joys, I have just popped back in and she has pooed. Hurrah!

Oh so gorgeous. Keep us updated 😁

Icequeen01 · 01/09/2020 21:45

Oh how utterly gorgeous. I would love to foster but I just know I wouldn't be able to let any go!

Oldestchild90s · 01/09/2020 22:23

You HAVE to keep them all. It's the rules.

Bargebill19 · 01/09/2020 22:27

Agreed it the rules. We’ve just gone from 2 to 7 because of the cat rules.

Elieza · 02/09/2020 18:53

Awww, they are all adorable. You won’t want to part with any of them!

TwigTheWonderKid · 02/09/2020 19:38

Yes, I appreciate that I may not want to give any of them up, however Mr Twig barely tolerates one cat. It will be very interesting to see how things develop over next few weeks. However, part of the reason we are fostering is because waiting lists for kittens from shelter are so long it was the only way we could get some, so in a way it will be a lovely thing to be able to make another family happy too. Or at least, that is my plan...

Aw will they have Bowie names?

Ellmau · 02/09/2020 20:49

The little one being weighed is adorable.

TwigTheWonderKid · 02/09/2020 20:54

Ooh, there's a thought! At the moment they have imaginative names bestowed upon them by the DCs: Snowy, Smudge, Tabby and the best; Black-and-Whitey...

Ellmau · 03/09/2020 05:50

Stardust would be a lovely name for the white one.

I can't imagine how anybody could resist those lovely kittens. The mum looks lovely too. Hoping that the foot in the weighing photo is Mr Twig's and he is already smitten. Stardust is a lovely name for the white kitten but there is something deliciously literal in the DCs' names too.
