I'm going to be a foster mum (granny?)!

We lost our beautiful, gentle DC Amber at the beginning of May and have been patiently (and not so patiently) waiting for a pair of kittens to fill the massive cat-shape hole in our home and hearts.

Waiting lists for kittens at resscues where we live a ridiculously long so I found myself the other day respnding to a Facebook message asking for foster families for mums and kittens and I've just found out we are picking up a mum and her 4 babies tomorrow!

Super-excited but also a bit nervous. Poor mum gave birth a week ago and now is being uprooted into a unknown home. Just wondering if anyone has any tips?

Mr Twig is hilarious. He's popping into see them even more often that me and mysteriously, the Dreamies packet is almost empty, despite him giving me a lecture on not spoiling this cat like I did the last one...

Mr Twig is, as they in some quarters, full of shit. Those dreamies aren’t evaporating into the ether are they? 🤨.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 03/09/2020 15:16

Which one is Major Tom?

Bargebill19 · 03/09/2020 15:48

Op, mr barge was the same - but I found him on the floor taking kitten photos and he’s bought ‘special’ food for kittens and their mum .... he looked so pleased to have all 3 of them on his knee last night. !
Mr twig sounds like he’s sold his heart to those kittens!

EachandEveryone · 03/09/2020 19:30

Jeanie also a cute name. I wonder if mum will go with one of them?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 03/09/2020 23:32

Dying of cute at this thread.

My MIL fostered a mum and her kittens a few years ago, and actually kept the mum and one very naughty boy kitten, who caused considerable trouble by disappearing up the chimney. He is now a sleek little black panther, and a wicked hunter, whereas mum just likes to sleep in sunbeams.

Twizzleisadancer · 04/09/2020 00:03

hello from one foster kitten mum to another!

These are our current babies! They are at weight now and have their first vacc next week and then they will likely be going to new homes :(

This little tabby one only has one eye open so my job today is to bathe it and hope it unsticks.

What a wee toot! Is the mum pure white? We have an all-white cat.

Oldestchild90s · 04/09/2020 21:34

@TwigTheWonderKid Did the eye open op? 🤞🏻

TwigTheWonderKid · 04/09/2020 21:40

Yes @Judystilldreamsofhorses she is pure white with lovley green eyes.

@Oldestchild90s no, eye still firmly shut Sad

@Twizzleisadancer how old are your kittens? Have you done this before? This is our first foster and our first litter, it feels like quite a responsibility!

Look at mum keeping an eye on you holding the kitten!.

TokyoSushi · 04/09/2020 22:13

Oh they are fabulous! Well done OP!

I know! She is such a fab mum. She has started coming out if the cage and sitting with me for a while for strokes but she always has one ear open for their little squeaks and she is feeding them beautifully.

Ellmau · 05/09/2020 21:03

So gorgeous.

lljkk · 05/09/2020 21:09

Do you have twiglets DC, OP? My kids would be over the moon if we had a litter in the house for them to coo at.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 05/09/2020 21:19

Oh! That’s just what our cat looked like as a tiny. She had some smudgy black bits which grew out, leaving her pure white. (And everything in the house covered in white hair.)

TwigTheWonderKid · 05/09/2020 21:30

Yes @lljkk I have 11yo and 15 yo boy Twiglets who are delighted to have our little catty family. As responsible cat owners we'd always neuter any cat in our family so this is itheir one chance to watch kittens grow up from newborn. The daily weighing ceremony is currently the highlight of their day!

We are on our third litter of fosters. I love them all and it is very rewarding to see them off into their new homes. Last year we were a ten cat household with mum, six kitts and my three. That is a lot of cat poo.
