Potential new cat

I had a home visit via WhatsApp on Sunday and I’m just waiting for someone to phone me to let me know whether I can have a cat or not.

The charity has two cats that are suitable for me (I already have a wee doggy). One is tortoiseshell and the other is calico.

I just need to tell someone as I’m so excited.

How exciting. Have you had a cat before?

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/07/2020 20:25

Which one will you go for?.

wombatsandaplant · 08/07/2020 20:47

@thecatneuterer I’ve never had a cat before, cats always freaked me out a bit, they’re just so wibbly. But the past 6 months I’ve really wanted one as my dads girlfriend has a cat and I’ve realised they’re gorgeous.

@Fluffycloudland77 I have no idea, they’re both so cute, I’m leaning towards the tortoiseshell though. I’m just hoping that at least one stays available for me.

Have you heard from the rescue?.

wombatsandaplant · 10/07/2020 14:47

@Fluffycloudland77 not yet but they’re volunteers and they all work during the day and I think they have lots of people wanting kittens. The lady I spoke to on Sunday said to text her if I hadn’t heard anything by the weekend, so I’m going to text tomorrow if I don’t hear anything this evening.

Ooh whar's the difference between calico and tortoiseshell?

We had a cat years ago , tortoiseshell back , black/fawn on her face and white bitb and 4 paws .
The Rescue and the vet called her Tortie/White
When she had her fur shaved (to spay) her skin was pink with black spots like a tiny exotic cheetah .

But looking online that's Calico

When I looked up Calico (years ago when we had her ) it said Calico was a USA name for the black/fawn patched cat with/without white

wombatsandaplant · 10/07/2020 18:36

@70isaLimitNotaTarget well I thought calico was like black orange and white whereas tortoiseshell was just orange and black. That’s what I thought. Not sure whether this is actually correct though as I know very little about cats.

Yes , you get the cats with the defined patches and the ones (like our old cat) that had the blurred effect of the black/fawn/gingery smudged together ( I was going to say Blurred Lines but that will Ear Worm me now !)

They did used to call them Naughty Tortie at our vets though (I'm sure ours was in this catergory )

thecatneuterer · 10/07/2020 22:31

Well calico and torties are both torties really - but calico includes white and the patches are defined blocks of colour, and the other torties are brindle torties, where the black and orange is sort of streaked together. And now I'm trying to think if there are brindle torties with white - I don't think there are. Or are there? .... my mind is a blank ... I've probably got one and I'll see it when I go downstairs in a minute Grin

And then there are torbies - tabbies with some streaks of ginger.

wombatsandaplant · 12/07/2020 19:17

Sadly still awaiting confirmation. Hopefully soon, they’re only volunteers doing it in the evening so I think a bit slow is to be expected, I’m just being a little impatient.

I did go to pets at home today to get some fancy dog chews and I stopped by the cat bit and got a few wee toys, some cat nip mice and fish, and a dangly teaser toy thing.

I’m just excited at the potential of it all.

I went back to pets at home, well sort of back, I went to a different one. I got a litter tray and a food bowl. I’m done buying now.

I emailed the charity today, so should hopefully gear something later.

I'm a sucker for things like this.. i saw two kitties left and i couldn't choose which one to rescue so i had the pair of them 🙈

Glad you're excited.. it's a great feeling 😺

wombatsandaplant · 13/07/2020 16:46

@Oldestchild90s that’s the sort of thing I’d do. But this time I promised I’d just have one, I already have a wee doggy so two cats might be a bit much.

I love being excited but I think I’m a bit overexcited, I’m a wee bit frustrated.

wombatsandaplant · 13/07/2020 19:36

Well, I have a wee bit of news. My details have been passed to the fosterers who will phone if they have a suitable cat. So I’m ever hopeful for a phone all very soon.

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/07/2020 20:19

Fingers crossed for you.

OohKittens · 13/07/2020 20:42

Hope you are lucky Smile

wombatsandaplant · 14/07/2020 20:29

Thanks guys,

I’ve applied to a rescue for A cat he’s grey and white and 3 years old.

OP posts:
OohKittens · 14/07/2020 20:37

That's brilliant

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/07/2020 20:40

When do you get him?.

wombatsandaplant · 14/07/2020 20:58

Ive only applied for adoption, I’ve not got him or anything. I might not be for him, there might be someone else whose better but fingers are crossed. Sorry I didn’t make that clear.

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 14/07/2020 21:00

If it’s meant to be it will happen. You’ll have gone off the idea at this rate.

wombatsandaplant · 14/07/2020 21:04

Yep, if it’s meant to be it will be. I’m being overall patient even if I’m getting a bit frustrated day to day. Before I know it I should have a wee kitty and I won’t know what it was like before.

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 14/07/2020 21:09

Yep. You’ll have one sleeping either side of you & will wake up boiling hot.

wombatsandaplant · 15/07/2020 14:09

Had an email earlier saying if I’m successful I’ll hear within 7 days. So here’s hoping.

Crossing fingers Smile

When we were waiting to hear about ours ( CPL , before Covid -you see the cats , contact them and they arranged for us to see them and a Home Vist)

I kept reminding everyone that even if these two were gone there were literally 100s more out there .
It was hard to whittle the choices down, but once we'd decided on this pair we were crossing everything that no-one else would swoop them away .
