Potential new cat

I had a home visit via WhatsApp on Sunday and I’m just waiting for someone to phone me to let me know whether I can have a cat or not.

The charity has two cats that are suitable for me (I already have a wee doggy). One is tortoiseshell and the other is calico.

I just need to tell someone as I’m so excited.

Just sneaking in to wish you good news soon. There’s also great advice on Blue Cross (I think it is) website about introducing a cat to a new dog. Is the dog used to cats?

puzzledbubbles · 15/07/2020 20:51

Hi :)

I'm at the same stage as you almost! Got my WhatsApp video call tomorrow to look around the house and they have a 3 year old girl in mind for us.

Would you mind letting me know what kind of thing they were asking in the video call?

Hope you hear about your cat soon!!!

wombatsandaplant · 15/07/2020 21:05

Thanks guys.

@70isaLimitNotaTarget good luck. And yeah, I’m reminding myself there’ll always be more cats if I don’t get this one.

@Wolfiefan he’s never lived with a cat, but one frequents my garden and my dog follows him round. He’s doesn’t bark or go chase either.

@puzzledbubbles good luck. On mine they asked what I did, would I be home much, did I have a garden, how far am I from a main road, why I wanted a cat, will it go outside. Hope that helps.

Ah wombat , I have Double Good Luck . my cats are two jet Black Cats Grin We've had then 14 months now .

We were watching Paul o Grady tonight , there were some lovely cats at Battersea ( this was filmed pre-covid) beautiful tabby who had 5 kittens in Battersea

Celia Hammond has loads of black cats , lot of ferals/ kittens of ferals .

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/07/2020 22:22

puzzle

We were asked about roads too ( they look on Google Street Map and my DD saw a CPL van drive by ! They were in the area so checked our road)

Any allergies
Any DC , what age
Any potential escape routes
Do you know your furniture will get frazzzled Grin

Plans for if you go away
Cat Door
Garden
Where will the tray be placed
Knowing that you're taking on 15+ years Of Cat

And importantly - is everyone on board ?

My DC are adults (18 and 20 )
Our little chap was very shy but we felt we could offer him a good home even if he was always shy - He has come right out of his shell.
And his sister ? She is The Matriach of the house . !

wombatsandaplant · 16/07/2020 09:15

Ooh I’d love a black cat. I’m in Scotland so we have much less charities and cats going. Just got to be patient.

@70isaLimitNotaTarget

Thank you :) I had our call today and they asked many of the same questions

They approved our adoption so Maggie (who is going to have a new name) is ours :)

I've filled in the paperwork so waiting for the call tomorrow to pay the fee and then it's cat accessory shopping time :)

@Wolfiefan I hope you hear soon!!

Oh that’s brilliant. @puzzledbubbles we have two kitties. It’s not me who’s taking on another. They are tortie sisters and are quite enough of the handful! Plus I’m not sure the wolfhounds want any more cats to beat them up or stalk them on their walks. Blush

puzzledbubbles · 17/07/2020 05:54

@Wolfiefan sorry! That was a tagging fail!

We have been waiting so long to get a cat that I am over excited 😂

puzzledbubbles · 17/07/2020 05:54

@wombatsandaplant really hope you have got a match soon x

Wolfiefan · 17/07/2020 06:51

@puzzledbubbles no worries at all. I don’t blame you! I know what it feels to want a pet to make a house a home.

wombatsandaplant · 17/07/2020 10:06

@puzzledbubbles ooh congratulations.

And thanks, I really hope I will hear from them, but if not he obviously isn’t for me and I’ll have to keep searching.

I love your positive attitude :) you are right if this one isn't for you the right one will come along soon

wombatsandaplant · 17/07/2020 21:58

Thanks, if I wasn’t trying to be positive I’d cry. I’ve missed out on three beautiful cats so far. Just hoping it’s 4th time lucky.

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 18/07/2020 07:25

Oh @wombatsandaplant I do remember crying. Two amazing cats up for rehoming and we didn’t get them. It just meant we were available for “our” cats when they needed us. Two black and white moggies who brought us such joy and comfort in tough times too. For many many years.
Hang on in there. “Your” cats are out there.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/07/2020 09:21

wombat look at it as those three cats have now settled in their furever homes and though that home isn't yours , they are off on the next stage of their new lives .

Your cat will be out there .

When I see our two cats pile out through the cat door into the garden ( their garden) to chase butterflies and sneak into the shed through the gap in the door . Male cat sleeps on our bed (and thinks we don't know but the duff sound of a little cat jumping to the floor and the fur patch on the duvet ..... Grin ) . Female cat has a variety of sleep stations. Chair , DD bed , DS bed , my chair !

There were loads of cats , but we were 100% drawn to these . They'd been through a lot and the male had to have security and his sister . The worst thing for him would be more changes when he was finding his Status Quo . So the CPL were taking a chance on us too , to provide this .

They look out (smugly) and think yeah , this'll do us

wombatsandaplant · 18/07/2020 10:01

Thanks guys. I know they have such good homes which is great. I just wish they were with me, but my cat will come along soon enough and it will be perfect.

wombatsandaplant · 19/07/2020 15:47

Ive named my non existent cat sushi. So that’s gonna be his or her name, unless they totally don’t suit it. It matches my dog who is called yoshi too lol. My friend was eating sushi when we were talking about cat names and it’s stuck.

OP posts:
wombatsandaplant · 19/07/2020 19:05

Im thinking now tadashi. I’m so indecisive. Just some ideas.

OP posts:
70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/07/2020 19:11

DD and I did lists of all the colours we could think of and M/F then found a name for each .

The trickiest was a name for a white cat . (No Elsa or Olaf here thanks )

Sometimes you have to meet them first Grin

You might want a name that is similar to the original in sound .
I've given new names to all our guinea-pigs (some had names , others didn't) and the cats .
They answer to the food bowl then they eventually twig

wombatsandaplant · 21/07/2020 20:43

Still no news. I’ve emailed both charities again just an update as you never know.

I’m a bit down and I’m being tempted by gumtree. Which I know is wrong but so many cute kitties. I had a chat with my friend and she’s got me on the straight and narrow again.

I just really really really wanna kitty.

I’m not the most patient of people, so all this waiting is making me really really anxious. Just a constant anxious state is what I’m in right now.

fingers crossed for the perfect kitty

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/07/2020 21:18

There is a cat out there somewhere for you. I’m glad your friend talked you out of gumtree. I’d like to see them banned from selling animals.

It’s easier in areas like London, the charities down there will be stuffed to the gills with kittens.

wombatsandaplant · 21/07/2020 21:20

Thanks.

I was looking on catchat and there’s 100s in London and like 20 in the whole of Scotland on there lol. I’ve been checking the sspca website every day too but no cats that are suitable unfortunately.
