Haribo is missing

TroysMammy · 05/05/2020 16:18

I never thought I would post here but my lovely 10 month old cat has gone missing. I last saw him yesterday at 2pm when I came in from work and he shot off. I've done all the necessary but I am petrified that he has become a victim to foxes.

My last but one cat was found dead with his ribcage ripped open and I've tortured myself for years that he wasn't involved in a rtc and then the foxes got him but he ended his life being ripped apart by them.

It took me 3 years after Troy died from Hypertropic Cardiomyopathy to let another animal into my life and now this has happened. I am beside myself.

This is Haribo 2 days ago.

Oh you poor thing. Don’t give up hope, have you got a torch so you can look for him at night when it’s quieter?.

Keep calling him and posting on social media to keep it in everyone’s minds.

TroysMammy · 05/05/2020 16:47

Thank you. I couldn't sleep last night and forced myself to eat some toast this morning. It's the not knowing and imaging him being frightened.

Was anyone nearby mowing their lawn yesterday? He might be in a shed.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/05/2020 17:53

Oh no. Hopefully he'll come waltzing into the house like he's never been away! All of our paws are crossed.

Hamsterian · 05/05/2020 17:57

Oh no! It’s still early days, he will turn up.
Get all your neighbours to check their sheds, go out and call him and shake Dreamies (ideally in the evening).
Don’t give up, there are success stories out there! Haribo come back, all has been forgiven!
I’ll say a little prayer to St. Francis of Assisi

Lordfrontpaw · 05/05/2020 18:01

I’m sure he has just found some kitty friends - a colleague told me that his cat is having a whale of a time because all the neighbourhood cats are taking over the streets (probably to get away from the humans invading their houses 24/7).

TroysMammy · 05/05/2020 18:11

He's got 2 pure white mates and they were looking concerned when I was out last night with the packet of Dreamies. Nearby houses with sheds have been advised to check. A neighbour has been trotting around the area looking for him.

Funnily enough St Francis of Assissi is the patron saint for my birthday.

No mowing around here yesterday. I've put it on SM too.

I'm going to have to go out and call his name and shout out yum yums which is code for treats.

Hope he comes home to you soon. It's so stressful when they do a disappearing actFlowers

nettie434 · 05/05/2020 19:36

Hope Haribo comes home soon Troysmammy.

Re prayers - my mum used to say a prayer to Saint Anthony when something was lost. Her birthday was the same day as yours. That’s my sister’s birthday too.

Fingers crossed you will be back soon with good news.

Beamur · 05/05/2020 19:44

He's a curious youngster and the mold summer evenings are full of interesting smells and interest.
He's probably gone a bit further from home and exploring.
Can you put some strongly smelling food out for him? If he's on a litter tray put that outside too, if he's got a little lost the smell will help him find home.
Fingers crossed he's back soon!

TroysMammy · 05/05/2020 19:45

Thank you all for your good wishes. I've just come back from walking around the estate tapping a tin of whiskas. I didn't find him and didn't have any cats following me either. I've left my greenhouse door ajar and his bed is inside just in case. If it wasn't for the foxes in the area I'd be just a tiny bit less worried.

Hopefully, you will get a shower tonight so he will want to come indoors.

We had a cat that used to disappear for ages (I mean months) - then wander in (obviously when this 'other home' became boring or he missed our cat food).

Mum would be at the point of 'you know, Lucky probably won't be coming home...' when he would turn up, demanding cat food.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 05/05/2020 20:42

I hope he's home soon 💐

Carrie7469 · 05/05/2020 20:43

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you 🤞Please keep us updated

pearl24 · 05/05/2020 20:45

Fingers crossed for you. Don't lose hope until you have reason to -- my friends cat went missing for over 2 months and was then found in a village 10 miles away! Thanks

Aloe6 · 06/05/2020 00:04

I really hope he comes back very soon. I’ve noticed your posts about Troy as I also have a cat with HCM, so I know you certainly don’t deserve any more heartbreak Flowers

TheCatsBlanket · 06/05/2020 00:06

I had a similar scare when mine was 9 months old, he went out for his nightly wee wees and didn't come back when I called. I too couldn't eat or sleep and was beside myself with worry, tapping food bowls, rattling biscuits and 'chh-chh-chh-ing' all over the neighbourhood.

I made posters with his photo on and put them through loads of letterboxes.
Three days later, in the middle of the night I was woken to him howling like a banshee outside my bedroom window. He scoffed down 3 packets of cat food and was purring like an engine as soon as he ran in. I have no idea where he went or why, he must have simply decided he wanted an adventure.

One thing I did do though, was to put his blanket on a branch of a tree in our garden so that his smell would waft through the air.

I too live in an area where there's loads of foxes, but I honestly think that although foxes can be very cruel, it would take a lot for a cat to be caught by one....not sure a fox could climb a tree as well as a cat could.
I truly know what you're feeling right now, don't give up hope and please let us know when Haribo is home

penguingorl · 06/05/2020 00:12

Oh how worrying for you OP, I have everything crossed for Haribo's imminent, safe return. It's so hard to not think the worst, but so many people have had missing cats return, me included.

cushioncovers · 06/05/2020 07:54

Fingers crossed he comes home op. Thanks

Toddlerteaplease · 06/05/2020 12:00

Any news?

TroysMammy · 06/05/2020 12:44

Nothing at all. If he is locked in somewhere I keep on imagining his little scared face. His friend called around last night looking around the garden and doing that paw scratching on the greenhouse glass. He's not in the greenhouse although he used to snooze in it. I've lost my appetite and done more walking in the last 2 days than I have when lockdown started which was nil. Because of previous heartache with cats I'm fearing the worst. I love animals but Haribo will be the last.

Thinking of you, Troysmammy.

Vinorosso74 · 06/05/2020 13:46

Oh no. Have you tried knocking on doors and asking neighbours to check sheds, garages etc?

TeddyIsaHe · 06/05/2020 13:49

Empty the contents of your hoover outside, and stick some worn clothes or a blanket on the line. He will hopefully pick up the scent and make his way back.

Keeping everything crossed for you that he returns soon Flowers
