What is wrong with DCat1's chair?

2 DCats, each has their own chair in the kitchen (an arrangement they came to in early kittenhood, which incidentally we had no say in!)

We had a problem through the summer with DCat2's chair - she would not sit on it, no idea why. This was ultimately solved by moving the chair from one end of the kitchen table to the other, after which said chair became acceptable once again to DCat2.

Now DCat1 has a problem with his chair. Nothing has been done to it, but he refuses to sit on it. The chair is verboten. He won’t even use it after I’ve moved it from one end of the table to the other, as per DCat2.

I’ve suggested to DH (a priest) that he exorcises it, but apparently he’s not licensed for deliverance ministry, so that’s out. Meanwhile DCat1 is reduced to sitting forlornly on a padded envelope while his chair stands unused.

Anyone know what is wrong with DCat1's chair? I would rather like him to start using it again, life is much tidier when the DCats are on their chairs rather than strewn on the floor! Grin

Does anyone else use the chair?

unbaffled · 14/01/2020 18:18

There is nothing wrong with the chair.

Nothing.

It has simply fallen out of favour.

Lordfrontpaw · 14/01/2020 18:19

Cats innit? Who knows what does on in their furry little heads...

drspouse · 14/01/2020 18:21

Our Dcat has rotated from
Sofa bed in spare room to
Small child's chair to
Small child's chair with padded cat bed to
Giant foot stool by radiator to
Sofa (preferably my or DH place) to
Our bed and back to
Small child's chair.
They do it to keep you on your toes.

stitchwitch85 · 14/01/2020 18:23

Nobody else uses the chair. It is DCat1's chair only.

Yes, I appreciate it has fallen out of favour, but whyyyyyy?? 😆

Blithering cats.

Put some clean washing on it he will be back on it straight away then Smile

Madcats · 14/01/2020 20:40

Put a black t shirt on it...that will get him to sit there! Is it in a draught perhaps?

Lordfrontpaw · 14/01/2020 20:41

Or just look him in the eye and say ‘no - don’t ever sit there - ever!’. That will do the trick.

TheLongRider · 14/01/2020 20:43

Sit on the chair yourself and it will quickly be reclaimed.

BeardedMum · 14/01/2020 20:43

I think the issue is that the chair belongs to DCat. Cats prefer to sit on chairs favoured by humans and not designated cat chairs.

slipperywhensparticus · 14/01/2020 20:44

Put the padded envelope on the chair?

Hassled · 14/01/2020 20:45

My cat only likes one spot on the sofa. The very same spot that is where I sit - where I've always sat. Why she's suddenly decided that it's her spot and we need to have a bloody battle over it every night is beyond me.

Your cat seems happy with the padded envelope solution. It might be messy but you've got a chair back.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/01/2020 20:48

@stitchwitch85, I know who our diocesan excorcist is. Shall I get in touch?!!

Toddlerteaplease · 14/01/2020 20:49

You must have some black clergy shirts. That should do the trick! Gorgeous cat!

Want2beme · 14/01/2020 20:55

One of my cats does this. She has several cat beds, including her barrel. She falls out of love with her barrel from time to time and doesn't use it for a few months. Haven't got a clue whyConfused

dementedpixie · 14/01/2020 20:57

Put a carrier bag on the chair

KittenVsBox · 14/01/2020 21:05

Put a box on the chair, or start using it as a human chair. Either should make it more attractive to that very handsome cat.
Think we need a picture of DCat2 on the chair tho.

TrainspottingWelsh · 14/01/2020 21:18

I can't believe you haven't let him choose a new chair yet. Buy a dozen or so new chairs, from very expensive shops, and arrange them in his kitchen so he can decide which is acceptable.

madcatladyforever · 14/01/2020 21:24

That's the funniest thing I've ever heard Grin

I'm with you on the exorcism.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/01/2020 22:39

@Lordfrontpaw, I'm
Not convinced that there is anything going on in my girls heads. I think it's all floof.

Lordfrontpaw · 14/01/2020 23:18

Don’t be so sure - cats know things...

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 14/01/2020 23:26

we were discussing "cats and their foibles" tonight....

why is it that idiotcat will avidly watch youtube cat videos on my tablet, but NOT on the phone or the tv?
idiotcat's sister pays no attention to them whatsoever in any format but adored Walking With Dinosaurs on the TV.

we recently had the central heating replaced, the house is toasty in every room, so WHY are they vying for position in front of the fire suddenly

why does Queen of Cats ask for her breakfast and ignore it as soon as you put it in her dish?

but mostly just "Cats....WHYYYYYY????"

Lordfrontpaw · 14/01/2020 23:27

They are just messing with you. It’s what they do.

Bowerbird5 · 14/01/2020 23:37

DD cat choses a place then sits or lies there for weeks then decides she wants a change! the last time it was a fairly new cushion cover. It does have a bird on it and if I plump it up so that it is upright she sits on the sofa looking at it most put out. She had a basket in front of the Everhot stove until it got colder and we started lighting the Multi fuel stove. She sits or lies in front of the hearth or drapes herself over the arm of the sofa near the stove.
