My cat has cancer, when to PTS?

Just found out today that one of my cats has a cancerous tumour on his jaw, it's an aggressive type.
The only options were invasive, and quite possibly would make it worse, or cause him to suffer, it's highly unlikely he'd get better.
The Vet thinks it'll grow v quickly in the next month, and may get infected.
Right now he's a perfectly fine, well cat, has no idea anything is wrong with him.
I want to have him PTS in a couple of weeks so he goes off as a well cat, is this ok?
I mean I think it is, the vet is fine with it but I'm questioning myself.
I've never had to make this decision before.

He’s a lovely cat Brillo and the blanket is fabulous. So sorry he is still only a young cat. I hope he gets to enjoy the improved weather for a while yet.

IHaveBrilloHair · 23/06/2019 14:14

The weather is great so I can leave the back door open and he wanders in and out, he loves it.
He's a bit droolier and his mouth smells bit happy and still eating.
We'll probably pop him to the vet for a check this week, maybe to get it drained again and antibiotics, it's not time yet.

With Jemima, she's our little black cat with the biggest personality.
He's very happy today, trotting around, going outside, having some cuddles, eating snacks, rinse and repeatGrin

Ahh that's great news! So glad he's doing well.

I love this pic! He looks like he's watching a fight 😂

Wolfiefan · 24/06/2019 21:52

Love that photo! Like he’s fascinated and horrified by what someone or somepuss is up to. Grin

His fuzzy feets.
He's currently eating ham.
He was having a hard time grooming his tail earlier, not helped by him being so fluffy but we're doing it for him and he loves being brushed luckily.
When we brush all four he tries to clamber in and take everyone's turnGrin

Dd is popping him along to the vets, it's definitely not time but we think a mild painkiller might be needed, plus perhaps his lump drained again.
She's going to ask about maybe Monday/Tuesday being the day we let him go.

You're such a good catty slave xxx

Wolfiefan · 25/06/2019 16:28

Always better to stay in touch with the vet and ensure you have medication that may be needed. We ended up with a cat on tramadol at one point. Without it she was really badly arthritic and in pain. On it she was happy!

IHaveBrilloHair · 25/06/2019 19:02

He has antibiotics, painkillers and anti inflammatories, but given how he is, the vet thinks we could have him for another couple of weeks without him suffering at all.

That's good to know, more time to make him chunkier and for extra cuddles ❤️

IHaveBrilloHair · 26/06/2019 15:59

In his coat.
He's sunbathing outside today, beef paste mixed with his dried food for dinner, and he's had lots of treats too.

Only if he doesn’t mind sharing. Wink

IHaveBrilloHair · 26/06/2019 22:21

He gets them first, and we're feeding him separately too, just to make sure he's eating.
Of course this means the other cats get spoiled so they're not left out.
They think it's cat Christmas!Grin

One of mine - Susie - has cancer too. She had three separate tumours on a front leg, all removed but one of them is malignant.

Susie is very well in herself. We'll take her to see the vet next week for a check. Putting her to sleep will be when she becomes unwell, at the moment she is fine and seems to be happy but we observe her closely for any change. I suggest you do the same with your cat. What is good about animals is that they don't worry, as long as they feel OK they are happy. If any of us had cancer, even if it was treated successfully, we'd be worrying about a recurrence. Cats don't have that problem.

I'm so sorry, HaveBrillohair.

He seemed a bit odd this morning, wa seeing round and not sure what to do with himself.
Tbf, it's possible he's done this at other times and we've not noticed.
He was fine later on though, went out sunbathing and leaped around to catch a few bugs.
Definitely still eatingGrin

He's starting to struggle to eat, I think mid next week will be the time.
