My beautiful cat, died.

I am so sad that my elderly cat died this morning. After a night of fits, he collapsed and passed on. He was a rescue cat with a beautiful temperament and so clever too. Waiting for my husband to finish work to help me dig a hole in the garden. Feeling absolutely devastated, he was a beautiful member of my family.

so sorry about your beautiful cat, they are so special and leave such wonderful memories, it sounds as if you gave him a lovely life full of love, he will be forever in your hearts. maybe you could keep some of his fur or make a paw print.

rosydreams · 31/03/2019 15:14

you can also get them cremated at the vets i was really sad when my elderly boy died but it will be nice to get a pretty cat ornament for his ashes .

I'm so sorry for your loss.
Be proud though that you were able to give a rescue cat a lovely comfortable life full of love.

😪 RIP.

That's awful.

Margot33 · 31/03/2019 15:31

Thank you everyone, your messages are really lifting me up at the moment. My husband rang from work for an update, he is very upset. None of us can eat. We are thinking of getting another rescue cat in a couple of months.

@Dontgiveamonkeys1350 his true age was unknown as he was picked up (by the rescue centre) as a stray. His estimated age today, would be 13-15 years old. He's had Sheba treat tubes, tuna and white fish fillets this past week. So he's been fed well.

@rosydreams I'm so sorry to hear about your beautiful boy. Sending hugs. The ashes are a great idea, thank you . My husband would like to bury him in the garden tonight, and I'll plant a rose shrub on top tomorrow.

Lost my boy at 13 yrs, he was having fits and the vets diagnosed a heart murmur. He spent weeks at the vets but sadly died a week after we brought him home. His loss rocked my world, it's been 7 years and I still miss him terribly. We lost him in the June and rescued two scruff bag kittens from a centre in the October. They never replaced but these monkeys fill our world with all things cat again 😊 wait a while, grieve your boy and take comfort that perhaps somewhere out there is a little soul that you could give love, hope and warmth to when you're ready

Margot33 · 31/03/2019 17:06

That slate heart grave marker is absolutely perfect. I'm ordering one right now. Thank you so much @rosydreams. Wow eighteen is such a impressive age for a cat!

@WhoaBettyWhite Im so sorry for your loss, thirteen is a good age. Im glad you have new furry friends now. Would you say a pair makes them feel happier as opposed to one? I agree with you, I'll wait a while until I'm over my beloved. Sending hugs.

I made the decision to get two after my boy passed away. He was very much a loner cat but I always felt bad he didn’t have other cat company although I honestly don’t think he cared. I rescued a brother and sister who for the most part successfully ignore each other but I’m so glad now I got two, it makes my house have a different vibe when there is more than one. They do snuggle together sometimes, both terrify the dog but I’m so glad I rescued two. 😊

DCat · 31/03/2019 18:42

Margot, sending Flowers to you. I know the sadness too well, unfortunately... Your cat lived a very happy life with you.

Margot33 · 31/03/2019 21:06

@ WhoaBettyWhite that's good to know. When I'm ready I'll have a look around the rescue centre. If I like a cat that has a sibling, then I'll consider adopting them together.

@DCat Thank you for your kind words. I don't think I can cry anymore tears. He did have a good home, I was so lucky to have known him. Hugs.

So sorry to hear this, I had one of mine PTS a few weeks ago. I am still at the point of looking for out for her at mealtimes. Our other cats are missing her as well, she was a feisty little minx who kept them all in their place. She was totally in charge of the daily Kitty Gallops around the house.

We put her in the garden in her favourite spot, it was lovely at the weekend at the sun was shining on her. I not ashamed to admit that I put a chair beside her and had a little chat with her. We always spoke to her in french although we are not french she loved being spoken to in our rather Allo Allo French for some totally bizarre reason.

Like you, I feel lucky to have had her. We rehomed her from a familiy who just didn't want her anymore. Truly honoured that we got the chance to give her a loving family home. x

xx

@donutrehomer thank you for your post. I'm so sorry for your loss, it's truly heart breaking. What a shame for the other cats, looking and wondering where she is. Its nice that you've put her in the garden. We've put ours in the garden too. I've been out in the rain to talk to him this morning. I cannot believe how much it's affected me, I've cried alot today. I think it's because I'm a stay at home mum so spent alot of time cleaning out his litter try, talking and feeding him. He was my friend. I know I have my husband and beautiful children, but feel so lonely without him! How can the death of a small pet leave such a huge void? Also I'm struggling struggling get rid of that death smell from the room he died in. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi OP, One thing that really helped me when my boy passed away was we choose one of our favourite pictures of him, got it made into a small canvas and hung it in a room where we could see and talk to him everyday. I still feel he's part of our family and I get to see his face everyday. As far as the death smell, we had this, I couldn't go in the room for a while but then I brought some roses and replaced them every week, I was buying them for him really, it almost reset my memory so now when I smell roses, I smell him Smile

Margot33 · 03/04/2019 13:08

@WhoaBettyWhite the picture canvas is a great idea. I've dug out a recent photo of him, that I like. At the moment I'm just talking to the air hoping he can hear me. Im a daft bat! The death smell is fading but still there. I'm going to try raw onion halves, to absorb the smell. Flowers would be a nice idea too. Thanks.

I'm so sorry to hear about your beautiful cat. I lost my cat last year, she was 21 and I'd had her since she was 2 months old. I adopted a rescue cat soon after losing my last cat and I love her to bits. My heart goes out to you. I think it's wonderful that you're considering adopting a cat again.

Margot33 · 03/04/2019 18:57

@mollpop thank you. Wow, 21 years old is an amazing age! Im sorry for your loss too. Im glad you have another cat to keep you company. I feel lonely without mine. Im having a little break from cats over the summer. As I don't want it to feel like we're replacing him. Think it will probably be Autumn/winter time when I'm ready to adopt another cat.
