Please name my kittens!

We have literally been through hundreds of names and we just can't agree. Any name suggested either 2 or 3 people veto (and there are only 4 of us in the family). I like old fashioned names, and those ending in y / ie, or a. We all like books & movies, but have very different tastes. They are 1 boy (grey and white), and 1 girl (black and white). Also, nothing too matchy matchy, needs to work as a stand alone name. Help, because at this rate it will be boy cat-y and girl cat-y.

Will post a pic, but it might take me a while!

I'll chime in with my kitten names though ... Disco and Diva Grin

Rockbird · 25/09/2018 17:50

Sympathies OP. We're exactly the same here. Cats came to us called Bramble and Arthur. I hated Bramble so we decided to change it to Roxy. Now DD1 has a new boy in her class called Arthur so she doesn't want a cat with that name so we've called him George. But I don't think Roxy and George go together so I'm campaigning for Cleo which everyone previously said they liked. We've had the cats four days and they've had more names than all the babies born in the county this year!

MiniLeopardInTheHouse · 25/09/2018 18:25

Veto and Cato it is then.

Or!

Cato and Katniss (Hunger Games)

Cato and Livia/Porcia (Roman stoic statesman and his mother/wife I seem to remember - look them up).

Our current rescue beast came as a young unnamed adult but it was pretty easy, especially compared to you - my DCs were easy to name, compared to you! His name does get used but he's also developed a wide range of nicknames too over the years, some complimentary, some definitely not! We missed his kitten stage, which is both a sad thing and a blessing I suspect. It's hard to get anything done at times with him as it is.

I'm on a meter, OP!

Think you are going to have to get two more cats so can name one each. Smile

chocoholic1234 · 26/09/2018 14:58

Penguin, that's tempting... but no.

I narrowed it down to 8 per cat (see above), DH vetoed 4 of them. Eldest boy vetoed all except Scout and Lyra. (Youngest boy was happy with any, he is now my favourite).

I'm just not sure Scout and Lyra go together. I'm going for Scout and Darcy I think (Pride and prejudice is my all time favourite book).

So, Lyra and Scout, or Darcy and Scout? Or Lyra and Darcy?

Or have you all lost the will to live too?

MiniLeopardInTheHouse · 26/09/2018 17:34

Much as I love the name and book, I personally wouldn't choose Darcy because it's been overdone. So many DCs, cats, dogs, horses, (probably even reptiles, birds, fish and rodents) called Darcy. Given your options, I'd go with Scout and Lyra. Funnily enough, I think they go much better together than with Darcy, so I'm siding with your least favourite son. My brood includes teenagers, so depending upon how old he is, I might be thinking this is potentially his last family pet to name with you.

There you are, I've given you my last breath.

Thirtyrock39 · 26/09/2018 18:26

Darcy and Scout! But then I'm biased as we have just named ours Darcy !

DollyDayScream · 26/09/2018 18:53

Scout and Jem.

Solved - you're welcome.

chocoholic1234 · 26/09/2018 21:03

Dolly - All 'To Kill a Mockingbird names' - Jem, Boo, Atticus, Harper were all rejected.

New plan: We keep coming back to Smokey for the boy, on account of his colour. Sadly Bandit was rejected, so maybe it will be Smokey and Scout. Fingers crossed.

Mini - he's 11, and you've just made me well up at the thought of this being the last family pet. On the other hand, it means we won't have to go through this again!

sugarcoatedthorns · 27/09/2018 15:23

Saying it again ...
Albus and Tonks!!! I want two dkittens now Confused

Woffulo · 27/09/2018 16:47

I do like Albus.

Voting for Albus & Luna

chocoholic1234 · 27/09/2018 16:55

Finally! We have all agreed on 2 names we all like (or at least don't dislike).

The boy cat is called Smokey, (every time I looked at him I thought Smokey on account of his colour, whoever vetoed it during all previous discussions must have changed their minds).

The girl cat is called Scout. (It was the only other name we all liked).

Smokey and Scout. And we can finally move on with our lives!

Much as I love Albus and Tonks as choices, I am not opening up the debate again!
