Hi, wanted to share my exciting news I was undecided what breed I wanted and after lots of research, I got an 8 week black smoke Maine Coone girl. She is amazing so chilled and friendly 3 days in she uses the litter tray, eats well and is amazing with my children.

Any fellow Maine Coone owners have any advice or suggestions related to keeping this breed? I can't believe what a gorgeous and happy kitten she is, I am in love.
Will post a better pic when she wakes up.

She's gorgeous! I love big cat breeds.

AmethystRaven · 27/03/2018 18:03

Oh, my dream cat, you lucky thing she's gorgeous! She sounds like she's adopted you just fine (yep, she's in charge now).

Also, I like your bird cushion Smile

YesItsMeIDontCare · 27/03/2018 18:06

Oh she's gorgeous OP. I don't have a MC myself, although a lot of people seem to thin that my big black furry lump is one, so I can't advise or tip.

I can place mark for more pictures though 😂.

rupertpenryswife · 27/03/2018 18:21

Oh she is amazing I can't tell you, she is so gentle and chilled, my 8 year old dcat growls and hisses at her and she could not care less. Every time you touch her she starts manically purring. I'm in love with her fluffy paws and pointy ears.

I have had Burmese and Persian before and moggie cats, this is by far the best breed.

Any pictures welcome. Love seeng pics of the furry overlords.

Oh by the way the pillows are from next :)

Shes lovely, will you let her go outside by herself?

rupertpenryswife · 27/03/2018 20:58

Sorry pink didn't mean for you to find out this way, he is rather special 😉, not as special as my Maine coon though.

😍 she's gorgeous! Congratulations!

I'm so jealous!

rupertpenryswife · 27/03/2018 21:01

rudgie I was just thinking about that, to be honest I would rather not, as much as I love her she does seem rather stupid, unlike my streetwise moggie. I really need to think about this I have a bit of time as she won't be space for a couple of months.

I was always of the opinion that cats should go outside now I'm not so sure, any thoughts would be apreciated.

Your poor older cat - is she not as cute and adorable as the new one then?

rupertpenryswife · 27/03/2018 21:32

No, I was just highlighting how chilled the Maine coon is, my 1st dcat is indeed adorable, she is a beautiful smoke who loves getting into bed with us in the morning, they are different cats which is all I was getting at.

Ah so you already know that black smokes shed pale grey fur EVERYWHERE when they are moulting. Just started coming out of my black smokes by the handful every time I stroke them, give them a couple more weeks and the house will be under a foot of fur!

rupertpenryswife · 27/03/2018 22:09

I do indeed it's a funny sort of fur as I find it quite difficult to see at times, my older girl is short hair but, the Maine coon has fur sprouting everywhere, my DH was a bit confused when he first saw her as she looks so scruffy.

Mine shed sort of fluff rather than fur, and it drifts around the place with the faintest movement of the air e.g. walking past the latest drift where it's gathered in a corner. I'm thinking of collecting it up this year to stuff a cushion Grin.

rupertpenryswife · 27/03/2018 22:19

That would be some soft cushion, don't suppose you fancy posting a pic?!

Any pics of your older pusscat OP? And has the kitten woken up for her photo session?

He is beautiful is he an indoor cat? The kitten is running amok which is handy as I need to get up at 5:30. Will post some more pics.

We’ve got an 18 month Maine coon cross, he is a very funny cat with loads of personality. He loves to watch whatever we are doing, housework, ironing, cooking and he basically does whatever he likes. He is the most greediest cat we have ever had. He’s still growing at 18 months and is very playful still. Maine’s are slow maturers.

She will bring you hours of fun.

Alijane46 · 27/03/2018 23:02

Here’s Barney boy!

Alijane, good of you to fold your clean laundry all ready for Barney's comfort.

Weedsnseeds1 · 27/03/2018 23:52

Aww, he's great. A household tabby moggie with Maine Coon jaw and ears!

MrsSchadenfreude · 27/03/2018 23:52

Curly tummy!

Mine are a pain to photo, plus I'm crap at taking pics. They just look like standard smallish black moggies - until you get close. Then you realise that a) they have this lovely grey underfluff, b) Girlcat has barely perceptable stripes, and c) actually their cute little paws and Girlcat's delicate head are deceiving, and actually she is a little larger than average (4.8kg last week) and he's a fair bit bigger (due MoT & weighing tomorrow)

Congrats - he's gorgeous!

We have two Maine Coons and they are just ace. They are indoor cats and are perfectly happy. They do expect 5 minutes of mad play before bedtime though!

Our boy (red-silver tabby) is very typical of the breed: laid back and goofy, with an enormous purr and a pathetic miaow. He does things like stalk you and pounce (gently!), deliberately places himself in front of the TV to get attention, crawls under rugs and sleeps in silly places. You can have a lovely 'conversation' with him.

Our girl (his sister, silver tortie tabby) is more of a typical female cat really: demanding of attention at times, but only on her terms. She’s very much ‘my’ cat and ignores DH most of the time, to his disgust.

They are not lap cats, but always like to hang around with humans. The boy will sit on my lap, but only if I place a cushion on there! The girl really wants to, but can’t quite commit herself. Instead, she shouts at me until I drag her chair next to mine so she can be stroked. The boy loves to sit on the back of the sofa behind us when DD is reading to us before bed, where he nuzzles or pats our hair and generally tries to distract us.

I don’t have easy access to pictures here, but will try to find something to share.
