Hi, wanted to share my exciting news I was undecided what breed I wanted and after lots of research, I got an 8 week black smoke Maine Coone girl. She is amazing so chilled and friendly 3 days in she uses the litter tray, eats well and is amazing with my children.

Any fellow Maine Coone owners have any advice or suggestions related to keeping this breed? I can't believe what a gorgeous and happy kitten she is, I am in love.
Will post a better pic when she wakes up.

Cute! and fab pics from everyone else too.

I have a rescue cat which is def part Maine Coon or Siberian, she's tabby, very fluffy and very chilled. Lots of Maine Coon characteristics, likes to sleep on the floor, not into high up places, quite dog-like in her ways.

She looks very like pic attached, has lovely big eyes, doesn't have the MC ear tufts so think she's prob a cross breed.

Does anyone know if they pair well with Persians? I have a Persian kitten who is nearly 6 months not and wanted to get a Maine Coon as a companion.

Weedsnseeds1 · 02/04/2018 14:39

Here he is Rupert, looking intrepid!

@letitgotoruin my boy looks exactly like the one of yours on the left. The colour is identical.
Maine coons are definitely the best breed, my one is so affectionate and loving (although only towards people he knows well. He won’t go anywhere near strangers as he’s very nervy). The fluff is a bloody nightmare though and it gets EVERYWHERE. I can’t leave the house without using about 10 sticky rollers on my clothes.

I’ve just rehomed an adult Maine Coon, she’s an absolute delight. Likes to be close and see what we’re doing but not needy and all over you constantly.

Likes to do her own thing sometimes. Loves a fuss on a rub on her terms, won’t sit on your lap but will lie next to you and snuggle in.

Fairly vocal, only miaows when hungry but chirrups at you a lot. She’s never been outside. Will hopefully let her in the garden supervised soon though.

PsychedelicSheep · 02/04/2018 20:11

Looks more like a fox/bat/lynx/owl type creature than a cat!

psych loving the ears, I love the Maine coon traits, although she is only 9 weeks old I can see what other Maine coin owners say, my girl does the chirruping thing and follows me everywhere, I have never known such an affectionate cat.

The OP who asked about how Maine coon might get on with other cats, this is the reason I got my Maine coon as I have an 8 year old DCAT too and whilst they don't yet love each other, there have been no fights at all. I was told Maine coons get on well with other cats with other cats but I guess there is always the risk they don't.

I can't recommend Maine coon cats enough, the fluffy paws and pointy ears are so adorable, they remind me a bit of dogs, mine fetches things too.

Do any Maine owners bath their cats?

No wonder you want to show your kitten off, I would too! Enjoy. I so MISS having a cat.

StewPots · 03/04/2018 11:15

Heidi is just a normal kitty but she is very vocal, affectionate, likes water and is extremely floofy so I pretend she's a Maine Coon miniature!

Gorgeous cat OP, she looks lush :)

Yeah I've had to a few times when he's had messy poos (sorry for the tmi!) He's fine in the bath, he doesn't love it but he'll kind of struggle for a minute and then kind of gives in, he's so laid back it's like he just can't be bothered to struggle Grin They have the best personalities
