My beautiful boy is gone

I don't normally post on here but I am so sad I need to share.

My 18 year old boy passed away today. It has hit me harder than I expected. He preceded DH by some years. He weathered 6 house moves, 2 other cats, the arrival of three children in quick succession (who he later adored) as well as surviving being hit by a car (He saw me coming home and ran across the road to greet me). He used to wait at the end of the road every day for me to come back from the morning school run, and again in the afternoon. Our whole street knew and loved him. I miss him so much already Sad

I'm so sorry for your loss. Of course you miss him. You shared so much together and clearly loved him. He was lucky to have you.

Oh I'm so sorry Flowers. He's done well though, and had a long happy life by the sounds of it.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 28/04/2017 20:49

I've been there. There are no words I can say to help you right now. He was obviously a very special boy, and you must have been very special to him too.

I'm sorry for the loss of your lovely old boy Flowers

Asmoto · 28/04/2017 20:56

I'm so sorry for your loss Flowers. He was with you for a long time and had been a constant through major changes in your life, so you will miss him dreadfully. There isn't anything that can make it easier except time.

HemanOrSheRa · 28/04/2017 21:05

Oh I am so sorry for the loss of your lovely old boy and your friend SadFlowers. I know absolutely how you feel. I lost my dear old girl when she was 17 and a bit. She was with me through divorce, house moves, meeting DP, my Mum's death, DS arriving, all sorts of stuff. It's heart breaking , I know. But in time you will be happy for the time you had with him and the lovely life you gave him. I promise Smile.

Reow · 28/04/2017 21:09

So sorry OP. You gave him everything you could and he was a lucky chap. That's all we can do Flowers

My oldest boy died at 21 and I'll never forget him.

They're never forgotten.

Can you clip a bit of his fur for a locket? Or ashes? I did and it's a comfort to have a bit of him with me.

ArtemisiaGentilleschi · 28/04/2017 21:11

Oh bless you. Flowers

I'm so sorry. It is always painful to lose them and he sounds like such a lovely cat. Be kind to yourself. Flowers

Hi, OP, I'm so sorry to hear your loss and share it with you - I had to have my little man put to sleep this morning. Your boy sounds like a real character and it sounds like he loved his family. We moved house three years ago and most of the road knew our Toby (and three actually had him as a regular visitor). He would follow me down the alley when I went to work.

I've known this was coming for three days and have had many tears. I hope in time you can remember the good times. What was your little one's name by the way?

chocolatespiders · 28/04/2017 21:21

It's so hard. I miss my girl everyday. She was 21 and was my constant through some crap I went through.
I long for another cat but dd is allergic.

Fond memories of your loving boy x

MymbleClement · 28/04/2017 21:23

Thank you everyone. I can't quite believe he's gone.

We are having him individually cremated and when the ashes are returned we are going to plant a tree in the garden where his favourite spot was.

Tiger he was called Elvis. I understand - we've been preparing ourselves for it too but it really hits you like a sledgehammer doesn't it?

Here he is

Your picture hasn't loaded, Mymble - I would love to see Elvis after your lovely description of him. Planting a tree is a wonderful idea.

ifcatscouldtalk · 28/04/2017 21:33

You've summed up a cat's presence perfectly. I have had many rescue cat's over the years and they are all very unique. Sorry op. Xx

Asmoto · 28/04/2017 21:34

Oops, can see the picture now - what a handsome fellow! I love his brooding expression.

ifcatscouldtalk · 28/04/2017 21:34

Awww great photo.

Trustyourself2 · 28/04/2017 21:43

I'm very sorry for your loss. He was a gorgeous boy.

Tigerblue · 28/04/2017 21:46

Elvis looked lovely, I bet he was a lovely character and what a great name he had.

We've had an individual cremation for Toby as well. I haven't quiet decided where he's going to rest. It was so hard for me making the decision to put Toby to sleep, but I had to do it before he suffered too much, he started deteriorating 10 mins before we left for the vet so this really was his time.

Hope you can get some sleep tonight and start to remember the good times soon without being upset. x

Ruhrpott · 28/04/2017 21:47

I had to have my beloved tom cat put to sleep on Saturday and still see him everywhere and break out in random tears all the time. Like yours he waited on the wall for me after work, came in the garden with me to feed the chickens and have a cup of tea, stayed by my side all the time and slept in my bed every night. I miss the big furry grumpy lump a lot!

Wow. What a gorgeous face. Those eyes. Stunning.
So sorry OP.

Ruhrpott · 28/04/2017 21:53

I took him with me and buried him in the garden.

MymbleClement · 28/04/2017 22:24

Tiger that was your last great act of love for your Toby. You did the right thing.

DS1 asked me if it was scary and I answered honestly - it was, but it was also my duty as his human and after the many years of love he had given me, it was the very last thing I could do for him.

Love to all who are grieving.

Ruhrpott I'm so sorry for your loss. They leave a huge hole when they go don't they?

Vinorosso74 · 28/04/2017 22:30

I'm so sorry, he looks a gorgeous boy. And sorry to all of you who have lost your furry friends.
They leave a huge hole for such relatively small creatures, I dread the day we lose Vinocat. They are part of the family so missing them and tears are perfectly understandable Flowers
