My beautiful boy is gone

I don't normally post on here but I am so sad I need to share.

My 18 year old boy passed away today. It has hit me harder than I expected. He preceded DH by some years. He weathered 6 house moves, 2 other cats, the arrival of three children in quick succession (who he later adored) as well as surviving being hit by a car (He saw me coming home and ran across the road to greet me). He used to wait at the end of the road every day for me to come back from the morning school run, and again in the afternoon. Our whole street knew and loved him. I miss him so much already Sad

I lost my boy on Tuesday. He was18 and had kidney failure. He predates the kids, and lost his own cat companion three years ago. We all loved him so much, and I keep turning to his special places in the house expecting to see him.

I hope two rescue boys will be joining us as soon as one of them has recovered from surgery.

How are you today Mymble? How's your other cat, hopefully picking up a little or is it hard?

If you're like me, you still need a hug, so I'm sending a big one. I'm still a bit tearful, managed to get through work yesterday without showing tears. Just got back from the shop to find myself thinking about all the times he'd be waiting on the stairs for me, or he's jump off the bed as soon as he heard my voice on return. I've been trying to think of the special things about him, what I loved about him and realised we really was a character and we knew we had him.

His little sister seems to have stopped looking at the cap flap. She's very purry, loving and vocal at the moment around us and eating like crazy. She's was always the one who needed more physical attention, so maybe that's coming out more.

kras, sorry to hear about your loss, it's not easy. I'm sending you a big hug as well. My boy also had CKD and predated the kids. He was another kid in himself and just as demanding as one.

krasnayaplats I'm sorry you've lost your boy. Mine predated DH and kids too, I get it. They're actually a part of your life so long you expect them to always be there. I'm feeling guilty now that I took my cat for granted.

Tiger I'm quite tearful still, too. Mine liked to wait for me to come home from school and would start calling when he heard me coming up the road. Same if we were out as a family. We just got back from a day out and it was just alien not to hear his greeting. Set me off all over again!

Our other cat came in last night and let me make a fuss of him, he still seems a bit subdued. And he looks so small curled up on the sofa without his buddy Sad

Cats are people too - they are our life companions, and Elvis was a beautiful boy with so much character even in a photo . Hope you can come to enjoy remembering him. So sorry for your loss Flowers

Thank you crazymissdaisy. I want to think about his life but don't at the same time because then I start bawling. I'm hopeful that in time those feelings will be less intense and I can just enjoy the memories.
