Can you ever go back from black?

I've had my slightly ugly (sorry, but he is!) black cat for 17 years. He's getting on now and I'm starting to think about my next cat. In my mind I'd love a pretty little thing, you know a real elegant lady type.
Then I feel horribly guilty as I know how much black cats get neglected and I've had so much love from mine over the years.

We had two black and white cats. One was mostly black. I couldn't have a black cat this turn round as I didn't want to be reminded of the ones we had lost. Sad

I have a black cat (and two other coloured ones too) and she is by far the prettiest! She's so elegant, walks like on a catwalk all the time, has the sweetest little miaow, and is generally a fantastic little lady. I reckon if you look a bit around, you can find a stunningly gorgeous black cat ;)

We love our black cat, she's just so sweet natured. She even copes with 2 toddlers prodding and poking her. Our family has a tradition of keeping black cats.

I know when Paddycat passes away (hopefully not for many years!), we will be hoping for another black cat to fill the void.

I've added a pic of her royal highness.

That's not 'pouty'. It looks much more like 'Having bad thoughts', I'm afraid. Grin

We have an extremely beautiful, elegant female black cat.

I've got a beautiful black and white cat. She's very elegant and lady like except when she's sick on my pillow...
I never understand why these colours are so hard to home/re-home
Lovely pics Smile

We lost my lovely black boy a few weeks ago. We still have his brother who I think is a little lonely and clingy. I haven't brought up the idea of another one to DH yet (he will need some convincing) but if we do it wouldn't be black. Or male I suppose.

Oh some lovely cats here! Mine just looks like a big black ball when I photograph him, although you can see his mangled ears sticking out Grin

I think I'm just being vain. A friend of mine just got a beautiful silvery/gray cat and she is absolutely stunning. I want a pretty cat! But I think I'd feel disloyal to all the black rescues out there. It's such a silly thing to stress over I know.

I think we have some time before my boy pops his clogs so I'll see how I feel at the time.

Why wouldn't you go black or male again Loli?
I only want female because I'm the only one in the house.

I foster and when I am given a black cat my heart sinks, because I know he/she will be with me for a long while and I will get attached. I haven't had a black cat for less than six months. Apparently the new 'problem' with lack cats is that they aren't as easy to instagram as tabbies/other colours...

This is my tiny girl - she is kitten sized but 21 years old next month!

She is the most patient kind kitty ever - she adores us all especially DD who has SEN

MrPony not black as it would remind me too much of my lovely boy. And I think a girl as Tetley is more likely to accept her.

*That last line wasn't aimed at you OP!

But I think I would adopt a black male if I decided to have a permanent cat again. Without exception they are always gentle and affectionate. My last foster black male used to nap with his arms flung around me, like a toddler!

They are terrible for taking photos of but it's such a shame that is one of the main reasons no one wants them. I've had years of love from my boy and I wouldn't trade that for a good insta photo.

Mine might be the exception then! He was horrible for the first 11 years of his life, you'd be happily cozied up and then he'd attack for no reason. He was abused as a baby and never really got over it. Now he's older he's much more chilled but still doesn't like to be stroked. He prefers you to sit very still while he perches on your lap.

Straight, believe it or not, that is two seperate cats! They are sisters.
As you can see I have difficulty telling them apart!

It's true that black cats are less photogenic. It's much harder to get good photos of my black girl than my ginger boy (who could be a cat model, though I am possibly biased!) However I think of it as a good photography challenge Smile I have some beauties on my laptop which I'll share here if I can be bothered to turn it on!
