Can you ever go back from black?

I've had my slightly ugly (sorry, but he is!) black cat for 17 years. He's getting on now and I'm starting to think about my next cat. In my mind I'd love a pretty little thing, you know a real elegant lady type.
Then I feel horribly guilty as I know how much black cats get neglected and I've had so much love from mine over the years.

I know I've just put this on hollinhurst's Ribbon Face thread, but seriously this is pretty photogenic for a black cat.

I can really sympathise though with your reasons for not wanting a black cat this time. But you know you're not replacing him with anything or anyone.

Half of it is not wanting to 'replace' him and the other half is very vain and just wanting a pretty cat.

I think by the time it rolls round I'll more than likely get a black one again, I can't help but love an underdog (or cat)

He does walk on his harness yes . It's not like walking a dog, I spend a lot of time standing around like a stuffed lemon while he sniffs next doors plants, but he can't go out on his own 'cause of his FIV.

It's a compromise he seems happy enough with.

Straight, believe it or not, that is two seperate cats! They are sisters.
As you can see I have difficulty telling them apart!

I think black cats are beautiful!

I've never had a black cat but always wanted one. We have a dog at the moment (and will do for a good 10 years more hopefully) so can't have a cat. I'd get a black one if we could though. It is really sad that they're not being rehomed because they don't photograph as well as others.

I think we have different ideas of pretty.

Black cats to me are handsome and beautiful but not what I would class as 'pretty'.

(I know this is a thread about black cats but Harry does have a lot of black fur!)

I' love to have an all-black cat, but as most of my cats have been acquired by accident I never seemed to have much choice in the matter. Of the many cats I've had most have been black and white.

Paddycat is very elegant. She has beautiful green eyes. Everyone comments she is like a little panther. She has three white patches on her belly so it looks like she's wearing a white bikini!

And she's just brought me a dead mouse.

One of my best friends has a small, dainty, all-black female cat, litter sister to my first boy who sadly died young. She doesn't photograph that well but in person she's absolutely beautiful.

We have a grey cat with grey stripes, and this black one, who in certain lights can be seen to have black stripes.

I've almost always had black cats. I love them more than anything.

I foster sick cats... When I got one of my long term ones she was the ugliest kitten I had ever seen ( sorry but she was- even friends said she was)..she was a semi shaved ( from tests) black and white scrap with not very nice markings on her face... She is now a very pretty two year old...her brother was and is a very handsome black and white tux- high cheekbones and cute little socks.... I'm getting a Devon Rex and can't wait but she doesn't 'match' !!!
