Can you ever go back from black?

I've had my slightly ugly (sorry, but he is!) black cat for 17 years. He's getting on now and I'm starting to think about my next cat. In my mind I'd love a pretty little thing, you know a real elegant lady type.
Then I feel horribly guilty as I know how much black cats get neglected and I've had so much love from mine over the years.

My gorgeous black and white girl was kindness itself wrapped up in a little black and white furry body. She just used to look and me and you could just see the love there. I know it seems daft but she did. She's sadly no longer with us and I miss her terribly. The two ginger boys I have now are stunning and lovely cats but everything has to be on their terms whereas Dotty was like my little shadow. Here's a photo of my lovely Dotty with one of her adopted brothers.
