Blood in cat poo

Taken my little girl to the vet because when i woke this morning she had blood in her poo and she did it again later and was meowing as though she was in discomfort. They have given her an anti-sickness and antibiotic injections and to bring her back tomorrow for a check-up. She is nearly 2. Really worried. How do I know if she has eaten something poisonous?

I think if it was poisen the vet would spot it, try not to worry. Cats bounce back really quickly

This has happened to our cat, vet said it can be caused by worms. We also changed her diet to grain free food and she's been fine ever since.

I am paranoid because I have a neighbour who hates cats and I know he is that way inclined as he told me Sad. Can a blood test show poison?

I really think the vet would've spotted it, it's not unusual for animals to eat things they shouldn't.

It's probably worms - has she been wormed recently?

Yes, she is up to date with her worming treatment.

She is just lying on a beanbag and hasn't moved.

Could be gut bacteria. This happened to my cat. Vet recommended boiled white fish, scrambled egg only for a week. I also bought vet approved gastro-sensitive biscuits. It cleared up x

Took her for a check up today and they have admitted her overnight for further tests, bloods and depending on result may be a x-ray/scan Sad

Good luck to her. Are they to give her any supportive therapy do you know ? (Eg fluids.)

My male cat had this and it was colitis. Have they ruled this out?

Yes, they have just phoned me she has a cannula for fluids.

The results of the bloods were all ok but they have found some nodules which, if they can still feel tomorrow, they will be doing xrays/ultrasound.

They have given her some pain relief and said she seems settled and will phone me in the morning.

Try not to worry. My cat has had blood in her poo for a year or so. Been back and forth but now decided there is nothing to worry about.

What does your cat eat? Mine are on ckd food but something soft and palatable at the moment

They said it wasn't pancreatitis but didn't mention colitis.

She eats James Wellbeloved dry food and Sheba wet food.

I have had two phone calls, one this morning to say she has a very high temperature and they have found a wound and the second call to say they want to x-ray to check she hasn't been shot by a pellet gun. They said they want to eliminate this from their list. Feel numb and sick.

Aw glad you took it seriously and got her checked out, poor little thing. Hope she is ok, at least now they know what it is ghey can treat her. Best wishes and im sorry there are idiots out there who would do this x

She is going to have exploratory surgery tomorrow to see what damage has been done and I am reporting to the police (been holding for the last 30 mins) and RSPCA.

Yes, hopefully acting quickly may help in saving her.
