Blood in cat poo

Taken my little girl to the vet because when i woke this morning she had blood in her poo and she did it again later and was meowing as though she was in discomfort. They have given her an anti-sickness and antibiotic injections and to bring her back tomorrow for a check-up. She is nearly 2. Really worried. How do I know if she has eaten something poisonous?

She had ABs early on so that's good. Infection is likely the bigger problem here.

All the best to her and let us know how things go.

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 22/07/2016 20:53

What a shock I'm so sorry. Hang in there little kitty x

pilates · 22/07/2016 22:01

Thanks, I can't stop crying. She is not even 2, how can people be so cruel and it's someone who lives nearby coz she doesn't go far.

I'm sure you've given the police all the details?

Poor lass.

Papergirl1968 · 22/07/2016 22:54

Bloody bastards. Hoping she will be ok. Keep us posted xxx

Autumnchill · 23/07/2016 06:02

So sorry to read this but she's in the right place and they know what's wrong with her now.

If it's any help, our childhood cat Sammy was shot and lived to the grand age of 20+ (we lost count of his age after 20!)

pilates · 23/07/2016 07:16

I woke up this morning thinking it was all a bad dream.

I've reported to RSPCA last night. Was on hold to non-emergency police for 45 minutes last night then got cut off. Phoned again this morning and spoke to someone and they are going to call me back.

Cozie are you a vet?

I'd like to see these pellet guns and air rifles licensed the same as shotguns, it would stop a lot of this.

Do you think it's one of the neighbours?.

pilates · 23/07/2016 09:25

Fluffy, yes Sad

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 23/07/2016 09:26

No I'm not, Pilates.

I seem to recall that the law on that is to change in Scotland at the end of the year, Fluffy, and that there is movement to bring in comparable rules in England and Wales.

cozietoesie · 23/07/2016 09:28

Sorry - pilates. (My autocorrect is judging that I'm not awake. It's right as well.)

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/07/2016 09:55

Did the vet save the pellet as evidence?.

pilates · 23/07/2016 11:28

They are going to try and save the pellet if possible, but they said they might not be able to. They are operating on her at the moment.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 23/07/2016 11:47

Fingers crossed.

werekitty · 23/07/2016 11:48

Hope she's ok

timtam23 · 23/07/2016 18:07

Just caught up with this thread, so sorry to read the updates! Your poor little cat. I hope the operation went ok

cozietoesie · 23/07/2016 19:15

Any news ?

pilates · 23/07/2016 21:08

They weren't able to get the pellet out as it is lodged in the lumber spine muscles and would cause more damage to try and get it out.

When they opened her up she was in a better way than they envisaged. I t was pretty clean. The spleen is punctured and they have reinforced and patch-worked the intestine and flushed out the abdomen. The wound is neat and clean and she managed to eat after she came around. So feeling a bit more optimistic than yesterday.

Poor pussy cat Flowers

Must be the most worrying of times. I have everything crossed for you as I can only imagine what you are going through.

cozietoesie · 23/07/2016 21:38

Yes. There was always the possibility that it would cause more damage to remove than to leave in place. The vet must be almost as exhausted as you are - that's finicky work.

It sounds as if there's room for guarded optimism, though. Is she on ABs and meds now?

Take care.

timtam23 · 23/07/2016 22:01

Poor pusscat. How lucky for her that you knew something wasn't right and took her to the vet. Sounds as if she has every chance of making a good recovery. Everything crossed for her.

So awful that someone would deliberately shoot at an animal though, really worrying. :(

Vinorosso74 · 23/07/2016 22:37

Your poor cat. There are some nasty bastards out there. I can't get my head around why people would do anything like that.
Good on you for getting her to the vet quickly. I hope she recovers well and whoever did this gets their comeuppance.

pilates · 24/07/2016 07:31

Thanks everyone, it's so nice to offload on here. I am walking around in a daze at the moment and finding it hard to retain anything. When I wake up every morning I cry coz I thought it was a horrible nightmare and then reality kicks in. She has been on Ab's since Tuesday (I think that is what has saved her), some stronger ones now. We are going down to see her this morning and so will report back.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 24/07/2016 07:43

She'll be receiving expert and loving care there right enough. Your faces will cheer her up though.

Good luck.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 24/07/2016 09:17

I've only just caught up with this. I'm so sorry for your poor cat, and for you. There are some evil bastards out there and I really hope it's made harder to get hold of pellet guns and air rifles.

Good luck today Flowers
