How do I stop it?!
He wants 24/7 attention basically and I can't supply it!
Like now I'm sat watching tv (with wet nails) and he's sat opposite me howling. Shutting him out the room makes him cry more
He has food down (but won't eat until cuddled but he's eaten at lunch), litter tray clean....

Is he not using litter tray? Cystitis?

Eating and litter tray all normal
He's always been chatty, but only had him since end of October
Neutered. Was stray for 4 years, has FIV
Was thought to have cat flu but turned out to be embedded tooth (poor mite) so has constant sinusitis type pain
When I say chatty, he's one that if you go to stroke him he miaows first

Ours does this. I suspect only death stops it.

You tune out to it eventually.

Not at the minute because I am about to lose it completely
It doesn't seem t make any difference whether I chat back or not
He woke me up at 5am howling and trampled over my face so I shut him out into the living room where he howled

When I played your clip, my bengal woke up, ears twitching, on full alert and started looking around for the cat.

Whatever your cat was trying to tell you, my cat understood Grin

My cat sounds like this too, I think some cats are just chatty? Our cattery said they'd never met a BSH so vocal and I don't think it was a compliment...

One of mine does this a lot, because he wants to be held, he's utterly gorgeous and I adore him but oh so loud and annoying, he's also huge and heavy.
I have seriously considered getting a cat sling for him, I really think he'd love it.

Mine does it. At night. I have to sleep on the sofa with him about 3 nights a week. I think they just want attention and a warm belly Grin to curl up on.

Is it new behaviour? You say he's always been chatty, but is the howling new?

The lady from our cat rescue (who I meet on the street) says it's just a cry for attention.

Try zylkene, extra walks and play.

You honestly do tune it out. Pretty sure ours understands the phrase "asbo will you shut the fuck up" because he does one last grumble & shuts up.

I wonder if he's chattier now he's pain free?.

If nothing else it is excellent practice for children. They will seem a breeze after this.

(I timed ours once and he miaowed for 45 minutes straight)

Won't play now. Played earlier
Won't walk. I wrestled him in harness, he made some bizarre noises at neighbours cats and has now traumatised them all and ran to come back inside
I have some zyklene - didn't seem to make much difference but can try again?

Yeah. I/we know nothing before he ended up a stray for 4 years. Waiting for rescue to contact some people

Mine has a Mum, his own, I have his Mum and sister, he was born here, he still bloody does it.
It's like having a big, fat whiny toddler.

OP I think some cats are just like that. Mine speaks on the telephone to my mum (no kidding) and gives a running commentary. So does his litter mate. They 'ask' to go out the front door / more water please. My mum's cat was even more vocal and have full 'conversations'. Sounds like a character!

(Btw I just played your vid and my cat went nuts, walking around the room looking for the 'other cat', currently looking out of the window for an imposter. Lol! He looked at me as if to say 'what the hell?!')

Oh and Zylkene is amazing. Takes a little while to kick in so hang in there. Obviously a 'high maintenance' cat. Boys seem to be more like that ;)
