Miaowing constantly

How do I stop it?!
He wants 24/7 attention basically and I can't supply it!
Like now I'm sat watching tv (with wet nails) and he's sat opposite me howling. Shutting him out the room makes him cry more
He has food down (but won't eat until cuddled but he's eaten at lunch), litter tray clean....

Do go to the vet and have his thyroid checked. My parents took on a relatives cat who was very vocal. In fact Ebony was really demanding, constant noise. Once she was on thyroid treatment she became a lovely calm pet.

Wordsaremything · 15/02/2016 20:49

Yes you are his human and I know he's driven you to despair but there is a solution I'm sure. This is not a ltb situation. Anyway I think your heart would be just as broken as Ollie's if you parted!

Second what another poster said about the call being 'oh woe is me' . They do a harder edged angrier version in the car on their way to the vet.

cozietoesie · 15/02/2016 21:06

There's the difference between breeds. If Siamese are minded to be mouthy, they don't try any 'Woe is me' stuff - it's just straight 'Me', 'Me', 'Me' and so on. Grin

hollinhurst84 · 15/02/2016 22:01

He is about 7. We have mounted a (sort of) plan. Another feliway is on now so trying that. He's to go to vets for full MOT, and to have his FIV status reviewed. Not sure which test they used and the snap one I think is the one that isn't always accurate
If vet comes back with nothing then it's a private behaviourist
Rescue came out today, commented how when I talk he looks at me constantly and lots of slow blinks, he doesn't look at the other person. She said his eyes are glued to me Confused we had a chat, she heard him shout a bit and we got the plan together

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 15/02/2016 22:05

That plan sounds.....OK. I thought they'd find him 'interesting'. Smile

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/02/2016 22:15

I think Lone has said previously that zylkene and feliway work better together.

hollinhurst84 · 15/02/2016 22:20

Yep I have some zyklene, think I have about ten capsules left
Definitely. She said she expected him to be all over her friendly but he was looking to me constantly and a bit wary

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 15/02/2016 22:25

She might have had some faint aura of shelter about her. He could have been worried he was being parted from you?

hollinhurst84 · 15/02/2016 22:30

Possibly - although they all have fosterers so no actual shelter
I called him my little weirdo cat and she laughed. Got a few behaviour ideas, he's currently figuring how to get treats out of an egg carton (otherwise known as bashing it with his paw)

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 15/02/2016 22:36

It's just that he's got some history in his baggage. My own boy has a great confidence that I am his and the house is his - he'll become T'd off with things but he doesn't become worried in the way that some cats might in other circumstances. It makes for a different relationship and different behaviour.

ClarenceTheLion · 15/02/2016 22:41

I wish I hadn't played that Instagram clip. My foster cat was instantly angry. Hissed at the computer screen, and now she's taken up a vigil on the mousemat in case 'computer cat' comes back!

hollinhurst84 · 15/02/2016 22:42

The but that's missing is what happened before he was a known stray. He turned up at a woman's house 4 years ago with two older female cats so it's known he was on the streets for the 4 years she fed him. Oh and he was neutered when he turned up there 4 years ago
Before that, who knows! I suspect he had a human at some point

Notsoaccidentproneanymore · 15/02/2016 22:43

Well I've just played your cat to my 2 cats. They are now very alert (they were asleep) and big fluffy is looking out of the window. They look very perturbed.

Anyway, that sounds identical to our old cat (she was 18 when we had her pit down just before Christmas 😞). She started to make that noise when she was almost deaf, and her sight wasn't brilliant either. She also had a problem with her kidneys and her thyroid. She made that noise a lot when she was frustrated - she couldn't jump onto the bed anymore (we had to put a chair at the end of the bed to give her a step up onto the bed), was unhappy about something, wanted us to do something for her etc;

Hungry - make noise
Can't get to where she wants to be, door needs opening, can't jump onto the table - make noise
Cat food wrong temperature - make noise
No water in bowl - make noise
Wants attention, but can't see anyone - makes noise

I hope this helps, 'cos it could be any one of a number of things causing this. Presumably he sleeps sometimes, and doesn't make the noise then?

hollinhurst84 · 15/02/2016 22:54

Thankfully yes he does sleep! Currently sat on my hip lay along my arm and purring away
It does seem to be either I want attention or I'm trying to tell you something is wrong (stupid hooman) and you're not listening

OP posts:
ApologiesToInsectLife · 15/02/2016 23:00

Gawd. I recognise that sound too. My 16 year old cat (dearly departed! ) who has undiagnosed thyroid issues and was also almost completely deaf. He did it when he was a bit insecure or couldn't find us or just sort of.... confused I think! I would agree with others saying he needs a check up from the vet.

hollinhurst84 · 15/02/2016 23:05

Hearing seems... Selective Hmm
Rescue lady "Ollie! Ollie! Ollie!"
Ollie is too busy staring at me. I go "Ollie!" And ears prick up and he trots over Hmm
He can hear a treat packet from two rooms away as well as the fridge door

OP posts:
NoMilkNoSugar · 16/02/2016 07:38

I've just played that clip of Ollie, our little black cat, who is also very vocal, sat and stared into space. Big cat who is LC's adopted mommy, came running into the room, checking all around her and went up and sniffed LC. I presumed a she was checking the area for another cat, but DS who is 10 interpreted it as BC checking LC was ok. DS thinks our LC made a similar noise when she was physically sick. So I also think a Vets check up just to be sure.

hollinhurst84 · 16/02/2016 11:18

He's booked in for vets on Thursday for general check over and they will take bloods for FIV. Confirmed he was done with snap test which isn't 100% accurate

OP posts:
hollinhurst84 · 16/02/2016 12:09

"I not noisy. No vets hooman" Hmm

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/02/2016 14:28

I think it's a given that at the vets he will be quiet.

If he's not poorly in some way, in fact even if he is, buy a cat radiator bed. My lap is empty since we got one.

I feel a bit used.

hollinhurst84 · 16/02/2016 14:30

He has one. Never looked at it Confused
Also has vast amount of other cat things that he won't touch Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/02/2016 14:40

Bugger. Thought I was on to something there.

hollinhurst84 · 16/02/2016 15:00

He prefers to sleep on his cardboard scratch box Hmm
Or with me holding him like a baby on my hip

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 16/02/2016 15:04

My Siamese have always used me or bed, (Preferably at the same time.) I wouldn't even bother to look for alternative sleeping assists these days.

hollinhurst84 · 16/02/2016 15:32

Yep I am his bed Grin
