Does your cat like to sit on paper?

Our cat likes to sit on paper. It's most fun when we're trying to use said piece of paper but she'll also sit on a random piece of paper and I can keep her where I want her by putting a piece of paper down for her.

Is this normal? I assume it is so why do cats do this?

My cat loves to sit on newspaper, especially when I am reading it/doing the crossword. I have theory that maybe she was born on newspaper and associates it with her mother.

We had one who loved to sit on any book I was trying to study out of.

the current catfaces are not bad for that, but my first cat lovely to help with paper work and letter writing by sitting on it

have you tried the catcircle trap yet?? You make a circle out of tape on the floor or use a belt or scarf and certain idiot cats will get into the circle as fast as they can and sit there lording it over you!

It's only worked for one of mine though.

Both of mine love paper. MCat likes to sit on A4, with his paws all tucked under his body, chicken-like. Then he delicately rips the edges off with his teeth, so he can spit them onto the floor.

MKitten waits by the printer when he hears it switching on, which results in things needing to be printed out more than once, and lots of nibbled paper in the scrap-paper pile.

Heh I did the circle thing with a couple of towels. She was torn between the circle and a hessian bag she's claimed as her own but the circle won.

Both of mine ignored the circle. Cats can be so fickle.

He prefers to rip paper to shreds, then attempt to eat it. Crazy fool.

I've seen him sit in the occasional box. Looks most impressed with that.

Put a small piece of paper like a receipt on an otherwise empty table top and my cat will sit on the paper. Even tried it with a stamp... And yes she sat on it!

Yes, sits on paper for hours and hours like it's the bestest thing in the world ever. Then sometimes falls out with it later, and when I stick my head around the door to see what the hell the noise is she's kicking the crap out of it, curled up shredding it with her back legs and biting it and ripping bits off with big wild eyes like it was trying to kill her. Never sure what could possibly have changed her mind about it.

She also likes sitting on carrier bags, and sometimes manages to get inside one and curl up in a ball which causes much purring. She never falls out with the carrier bags.

Boxes, yes; paper no. LandingCat likes to chew it but not as a seat. Plastic bags he has a real thing for: he licks them. Many's a morning we've woken to the revolting slurpy sounds of him licking a plastic bag he's found that we've not yet secreted away. No clue why. Am intrigued by the circle thing. Will try that later!

Yes! Will sit on paper in preference to a nice carpet! Always thought that because she was a rescue, it was connected to that. Apparently not. Must try the circle thing.

Ah yes, spamcat loves paper. But not quite as much as a plastic carrier bag. What is it in the cat's brain that thinks 'hmm, shall I sleep on the beautiful soft cotton, superking down duvet, or an asda bag. Whoa yeah asda bag!'

Yes, paper Must Be Sat Upon. And paper bags are definitely for climbing into. But DaintyCat's favourites are cardboard boxes, she adores those and will curl up and sleep in them for hours, which can be hazardous when Halloween or Christmas decorations are being boxed up and put in the attic! BrainDamagedCat is doing well if she can find any horizontal surface with her backside, to be honest; choosing something special to sit on is beyond her at this stage.

Update on the circle - MKitten just threw his squeaky mouse into it...then ran away with the dressing-gown belt I'd used to make said circle. He loves paper bags too - he's in kitten heaven if i chuck a couple of his toys in there with him. It's like the bag takes on a life of it's own.

Well I made a circle from my dressing gown cord four hours ago, but moggy hasn't bothered to get up from the furry rug next to the radiator yet to check it out. She did stare at it for a long time, but clearly the power of circles is no match for the power of a good source of heat.

Yes, ours love it. Especially a newspaper spread on the floor to be read but preferably wrapping paper - and with scissors to chase as a bonus too

Only billycat will, smackhead is currently curled up in front of dds door. I considered buying one of those self heatin mats for him, bu I know I would have to put paper on it first.

My cat likes sitting in carrier bags, then kicking the shit out of them from the inside. Even better if you sort or drag the bag about a bit by the handles.

He also likes pouncing on newspaper, and for the newspaper to separate into pages, so he gets a really good slide on. Tis rubbish when it's he local paper, who use staples, the swines.

Only one of my three does - cardboard more than paper, though.

Yes and sadly shreds it. We have had some unfortunate situations with homework, and once ds had a 'road' layout on his bedroom floor that she shredded while we were on holiday. I removed the evidence, luckily he had forgotten about it.

Paper, books, magazines, especially if it's been in your hand and you put it down for just a second and they're on it, quick as a flash.

Boxes are the Holy Grail for my 2 though- if it's big enough, they will curl up next to each other on the top. It's the only time they will sleep together.
