Does your cat like to sit on paper?

Our cat likes to sit on paper. It's most fun when we're trying to use said piece of paper but she'll also sit on a random piece of paper and I can keep her where I want her by putting a piece of paper down for her.

Is this normal? I assume it is so why do cats do this?

yes! My cat does it all the time when I lay down a magazine for 2 seconds!

sashh · 16/11/2014 05:00

Has anyone else noticed they can tell which paper is important? The more important the better

catsofa · 16/11/2014 17:12

Yes, mine likes receipts and gas bills best.

RubbishMantra · 16/11/2014 18:23

Haha yes about the important paper. Mine favoured my printed out essays last year. Fortunately for me, this year we submit online.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/11/2014 20:03

I think we need a recent picture of the mantra cats.

pigsDOfly · 17/11/2014 00:13

Paper, carrier bags, wrapping paper and especially cardboard boxes that aren't quite big enough for the cat to fit in comfortably; they squeeze themselves in with most of their body squashed over the sides.

And computer keypads. One of my cats would always appear as soon as I sat down at the computer and later the laptop walking back and forth across the keypad.

Nothing she typed ever made any sense though.

Sadly they're no long with us.

Here we go Fluffy.

MCat loves posing in his rainbow warrior hat.

Smile at rainbow hat... you would have to drug ours to get something like that on their heads!

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/11/2014 18:19

Yes, he looks like he's enjoying it! Or sinking into a deep depression.

Mkitten is adorable as always.

chockbic · 17/11/2014 18:21

Where did it all go wrong? Grin

HalfSpamHalfBrisket · 17/11/2014 18:23

I love Spamcat but there is room for more...

RubbishMantra · 17/11/2014 18:36

I sometimes think wearing the hat makes him feel a bit dirty and objectified. He gives me a resigned look that says "I'm only allowing this because I love you."

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/11/2014 18:38

Does he have a Christmas outfit?.

TheSpottedZebra · 17/11/2014 19:24

Mantra- why does your hat less cat look like it's been knitted?
I have never seen a cat with fur like that!

RubbishMantra · 17/11/2014 19:29

No Christmas outfit. Yet... Fluffy

Haha, MKitten does look a bit on the sheepy side! Or a mohair jumper that's been shrunk in the wash! He's a little Devon Rex, known for their mad sticky-out permed hair and bat-like ears!

TheSpottedZebra · 17/11/2014 19:33

Wow he's a Devon Rex? I've never seen one of those. Now I need to see one in real life and give it a squidge. He's very very lovely.

RubbishMantra · 17/11/2014 19:59

His curly fur feels like crushed velvet! Smile

He also has a very sunny disposition. I'm sure if he were human, he's one of those really enthusiastic types, who describe everything as 'awesome, man!' Grin

TheSpottedZebra · 17/11/2014 20:11

He sounds great!

I have an enthusiastic cat too. And one old misery (who I still love, obvs). Everything the enthusiast does, he does so thoroughly. Eg if he is asleep, he is The Most Asleep Thing Ever. If he is in a sunny patch, not only will he love it like it's the first time he's seen the sun, but he'll eke out every last bit of he ray.

RubbishMantra · 17/11/2014 20:35

My black and white is misery-cat! He does this "eeuu-oooeew" noise if you even dare to stand near him when he doesn't think it appropriate. He's not even old! He's been moping around the house since the clocks went back, because he's not allowed out after dark. So he's lost an hour of carousing. I do sympathise though, Enthusiastic Kitten thinks it's great fun to supervise MCat's visits to the litter boxes. He doesn't believe in privacy/modesty.

mineofuselessinformation · 17/11/2014 20:42

Yes to paper and hessian shopping bags. Will also sit next to a bag if he can't sit on it.
He tried to get into a (far too small) cardboard box recently, looking like a furry mushroom until he decided he was uncomfortable and got out...
And woke me up the other morning rustling around inside a Primark bag.... Smile

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 18/11/2014 20:11

Billycat loves a bag, or a paper. Smackhead on the other hand loves a chest. Doesn't this look comfy? (For him)

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 18/11/2014 21:17

Oh yes our kitten loves a chest Ohwhat - preferably DH's. He gets on and sneaks up higher till he can rub his head on DH's stubble. It's very cute.

And they both love a carrier bag and anything you're trying to read. Must try the circle trick...

sashh · 19/11/2014 07:28

Yes mine also likes to sit on people, I would say chest but it is actually my boobs. I am not small in that department, when I am wearing a bra she has been known to stay on them when I have got up to make a drink.

shaska · 20/11/2014 10:04

I'd forgotten the A+ Gold Star Winner - paper bags! Currently there is a large paper bag in the living room, and there's been a three day battle for the right to sit in it.

White cat is the winner for now - she's currently asleep half in and half out, looking right smug.

Mad cat however has invented the best game, which, as long as the bag is on its side, involves running down the hallway and across the living room at full tilt then diving headfirst into the bag so it slides across the floor. Then leap out and repeat.

The great bonus is that while some people would say that I've essentially had a piece of rubbish sitting on the floor for three days, I feel no obligation to tidy it away, and instead have relabelled it 'the cat bag'.

MrsPnut · 20/11/2014 10:12

Dozy cat loves a piece of paper to sit on but even better is someone's bag. We have to be careful where we put down our rucksacks because she'll be in there like a shot.

She also likes to have a perch, so will sit on top of the laundry basket, dining table etc. The funniest thing was her jumping onto the top of a box and the flaps giving way and her landing in a load of kitchen equipment being stored during our refit. She leapt out and stalked off, giving out nothing to see here vibes.
