I am working (on a rotation basis) for a few weeks at a North London Health Centre with a small block of flats next door. I have my coffee (and ciggie Blush) near the flats and their carpark. For the last couple of weeks, I have had the company of a beautiful tabby and white gorgeous boy, very vocal. Seen him most days, and the other day noticed he was lying in the small bush whilst it was raining. He immediately came to greet me, and I noticed the bush grass was very flattenend (making me think he was sleeping there) and a small plastic food and water bowl.

A lady came from the flats and said to me "oh, that's X's cat...she has been flooded out of her flat and is in a hotel, and can't take the cat. Someone is feeding him, and he is sleeping in the bush" I was a bit Hmm.

Next day coffee time, I met X. She said she 'inherited' him 3 years ago from the lady at 42, who didn't want him really, and she can't take him to the hotel, she has to come 8 miles every day to feed him, and is upset as he hates sleeping outside in the rain. Her flat is so badly damaged, she doesn't think she can return, and wants to rehome the cat. He's 8 but looks much younger and is well cared for. She mentioned rehoming to original owner, who is not keen, but won't take him back.

This is breaking my heart. I got to work an hour early today, made a shelter from a cardboard box with black bags for rain, with a high plastic cushion and blanket. Brought feeding bowls and food, and I am going to feed him every day (will go on weekends too). He is so miserable and sad looking, and my girl will hate him, as she hates all cats.

Help!!!! What shall I do?

he may have 2 owners (except they aren't doing much owning TBF) but he hasn't got a home. Sad

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/01/2014 21:00

If anyone asks, you've not seen him Wink

Doubt he's chipped, my vet never checks ours unless I ask them too incase it's slipped.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/01/2014 21:02

To, ffs.

Scarletohello · 23/01/2014 21:06

Just read this thread, you are a lovely, caring person to do this, I really hope it works out and pussy cat has a warm home tonight. X

LumpySpacePrincessOhMyGlob · 23/01/2014 21:32

Good luck. This is how all my cats arrived.

FushandChups · 23/01/2014 21:42

You are marvellous Crazy - the poor little cat will be so grateful, especially given they've been outside for some time!

Am constantly in awe of the kindness I see in this area - MN is awesome anyway, but cat loving MN'etters are even better Smile

Queenofknickers · 23/01/2014 21:43

Ooh good luck! Hope he's there waiting for you - bless you for going to him x

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/01/2014 21:45

What's the betting that by the time they get to tesco for the tray the list has lengthened to;

Tray
Dreamies
Toy
More treats
Posh food
Fleecy blanket

cozietoesie · 23/01/2014 21:47

Not betting on that one!

crazynanna · 23/01/2014 22:41

I can't find him Sad
He's not in his box, but he's eaten the biscuits
I walked around shaking the biscuit box, and we sat in the car watching for half an hour in case it was DS putting him off.

Sad

In the morning I will put a note on the block communal door for X to pop into the Health Centre and see me. I will tell her we have to sort this out..he cannot sleep out in this weather. I will tell her we can call CPL or CHAT, even if only for temp foster care. I refilled his food and water

Poor Stanley. He's probably a night time roamer.

Sad

Poor puss, let's hope he's got a warm home for the night...

crazynanna · 23/01/2014 22:45

I hope so scarlet, but from the sounds of it, he really is fending for himself.

I should have gone earlier. Night time is obviously when he's looking for food.

That's what I feared. A brave and caring attempt by you and DS, though, crazy. Let us know of any developments?

crazynanna · 23/01/2014 23:00

I will cozie...and thank you all for guiding me in this.

Bloody Stanley..if you are reading this..I was willing to receive the Wrath of Poppy and hold you to my bosom!!

Will keep you all informed on my return from work maybe with a cat

Ohhh I just read the whole thread

crazy you are so kind to think of the poor cat & try to find him

What an awful situation for the poor wee mite Sad

I so hope you can get him tomorrow, the weather forecast is atrocious

my most recently acqured cat was a little kitten presumed feral or abandoned and I still hate thinking about what a hard life he must have had before we found him (he is now doted on by the entire family and our remaining old cat tolerates him)

Good luck for tomorrow

crazynanna · 23/01/2014 23:25

Thankyou Smile

I am determined to make Stanley's life easier no matter how.

Off to bed..will update

Sorry crazynanna I just got in. Well done for making a shelter. Poor cat. You can definitely view her as being abandoned. If you wanted to adopt her there is nearly always a way to manage it and to get you cat used to the idea.

I can't help thinking that X would probably take her back when she's settled, but it sounds as though that could take some time.

All the shelters are so full as you know, but I'm sure we'd manage to take her in somehow if there is no other alternative. If you want to discuss it with our reception please call 020 74748811.

I'll pm you my phone number in case you want to phone me.

thecatneuterer · 24/01/2014 00:35

Sorry just read again and realised that a) he's in fact a boy and b) he's now missing. I'm sure he'll turn up again though.

Sparklingbrook · 24/01/2014 09:41

Fingers crossed for Stanley being back today.

crazynanna · 24/01/2014 16:39

Well he was by his box this morning...crying with cold and hunger. So I refilled his bowls and left a note on the communal block door for X to pop in and see me. I went into work, and was working with a colleague I hadn't seen for ages. She asked me why I was so sad, and I told her the whole story about Stanley.

X popped into see me, and said she had been up all night worrying about him, and had decided to rehome him, and could I help her. She was going up to pack the rest of her stuff in her flat, and said she would take Stanley in with her for food and a warm. I said I would knock her at lunchtime.

Now here's the brilliant bit......Smile

My colleague said to me..."When you go to see X at lunch, I will come with you. No promises...but if he likes me and I like him...he can come home with me and I have a garden and no pets!" WOOHOOOOO!!!!!!

So, we goes to meet Stanley, and I am like "Please Stanley bowl her over...do your stuff boy"

Then my colleague said to X..."QWhen can I pick him up? Tonight? He is beautiful and I love him"

Grin Grin grin]

Cue me, colleague and X huddled together sobbing like idiots Blush

So...Stanley has a new mum and dad, will be spoilt rotten, and I can sleep of a night

Job done
