I am working (on a rotation basis) for a few weeks at a North London Health Centre with a small block of flats next door. I have my coffee (and ciggie Blush) near the flats and their carpark. For the last couple of weeks, I have had the company of a beautiful tabby and white gorgeous boy, very vocal. Seen him most days, and the other day noticed he was lying in the small bush whilst it was raining. He immediately came to greet me, and I noticed the bush grass was very flattenend (making me think he was sleeping there) and a small plastic food and water bowl.

A lady came from the flats and said to me "oh, that's X's cat...she has been flooded out of her flat and is in a hotel, and can't take the cat. Someone is feeding him, and he is sleeping in the bush" I was a bit Hmm.

Next day coffee time, I met X. She said she 'inherited' him 3 years ago from the lady at 42, who didn't want him really, and she can't take him to the hotel, she has to come 8 miles every day to feed him, and is upset as he hates sleeping outside in the rain. Her flat is so badly damaged, she doesn't think she can return, and wants to rehome the cat. He's 8 but looks much younger and is well cared for. She mentioned rehoming to original owner, who is not keen, but won't take him back.

This is breaking my heart. I got to work an hour early today, made a shelter from a cardboard box with black bags for rain, with a high plastic cushion and blanket. Brought feeding bowls and food, and I am going to feed him every day (will go on weekends too). He is so miserable and sad looking, and my girl will hate him, as she hates all cats.

Help!!!! What shall I do?

It's hard indeed. The Lodger was the nicest cat you could ever hope to meet - courteous, considerate, immaculate tray use and eating, did all the best cat things (nose touches, belly displays, chirrups etc) on meeting.

Seniorboy loathed and detested him.

You've done more for him with his food and box than anyone else has done recently.

crazynanna · 23/01/2014 20:28

I just don't think it's enough,fluffy. I am a cat person. Abox in a bush? WTF am I thinking?

I bet he's cold.

crazy

No-one else thought to do it. You've done what you can so far.

Queenofknickers · 23/01/2014 20:30

You could call Celia Hammond (they have 2 centres in London) and they never turn any cat down from what I know. They also have "foster carers" too if the move isn't permanent. They are also lovely and will give you advice. Their canning town office is 02074748811 and their lewisham centre is 02086946545.

cozietoesie · 23/01/2014 20:32

Might be worth a phone call to them, crazy. TCN may not be around tonight.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/01/2014 20:33

Ok, do you have one room you can lock poppy out of? Bathroom?

JakeBullet · 23/01/2014 20:38

There is also Goldies Oldies Cat Rescue...they are based in Romford but travel all over London. They specialize in re-homing older cats and are very successful although small.

This is their Facebook group, I can recommend them as my friend is a volunteer for them.

crazynanna · 23/01/2014 20:41

Yes I think I could lock her out of the bathroom..but it's next door to my bedroom..Poppy sleeps in my room. Do ya think she would howl and spit and worry him?

OP posts:
crazynanna · 23/01/2014 20:42

And tomorrow they will be alone. Stanley locked in a bathroom all day.

cozietoesie · 23/01/2014 20:43

For one night? I'd let her. (I doubt it would worry him.) It would only be a real temporary buying time sort of measure after all.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/01/2014 20:45

I've done it, rescue downstairs & our cat pushed right up against me all night. If I'd moved he was damn sure I wasn't going anywhere alone.

crazynanna · 23/01/2014 20:48

OK I cannot bear it.

DS1 is on his way (under extreme protest and swearage) to drive me to the bush. He is picking up my catbox on route.

Poppy will forgive you. Put her in the lounge so when you come in with Stanley she can't see him.

I'm just glad you didn't get the bus at his time of night.

Sparklingbrook · 23/01/2014 20:50

Oh crazy you lovely, lovely person. x

crazynanna · 23/01/2014 20:54

Sparkling I would not have slept tonight.

Will pick up a cat tray from Tesco on route.

DD2 will sit in the lounge with Poppy.

crazynanna · 23/01/2014 20:56

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 23/01/2014 20:57

You said she wanted to re-home.

crazynanna · 23/01/2014 20:57

You sure,fluffy?

'Cos he actually has 2 owners

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 23/01/2014 20:59

Best of luck. I only hope he's there waiting and isn't trying to find some supper.

cozietoesie · 23/01/2014 21:00

Goodness no - you're absolutely not catnapping.

crazynanna · 23/01/2014 21:00
