I am working (on a rotation basis) for a few weeks at a North London Health Centre with a small block of flats next door. I have my coffee (and ciggie Blush) near the flats and their carpark. For the last couple of weeks, I have had the company of a beautiful tabby and white gorgeous boy, very vocal. Seen him most days, and the other day noticed he was lying in the small bush whilst it was raining. He immediately came to greet me, and I noticed the bush grass was very flattenend (making me think he was sleeping there) and a small plastic food and water bowl.

A lady came from the flats and said to me "oh, that's X's cat...she has been flooded out of her flat and is in a hotel, and can't take the cat. Someone is feeding him, and he is sleeping in the bush" I was a bit Hmm.

Next day coffee time, I met X. She said she 'inherited' him 3 years ago from the lady at 42, who didn't want him really, and she can't take him to the hotel, she has to come 8 miles every day to feed him, and is upset as he hates sleeping outside in the rain. Her flat is so badly damaged, she doesn't think she can return, and wants to rehome the cat. He's 8 but looks much younger and is well cared for. She mentioned rehoming to original owner, who is not keen, but won't take him back.

This is breaking my heart. I got to work an hour early today, made a shelter from a cardboard box with black bags for rain, with a high plastic cushion and blanket. Brought feeding bowls and food, and I am going to feed him every day (will go on weekends too). He is so miserable and sad looking, and my girl will hate him, as she hates all cats.

Help!!!! What shall I do?

I'm inclined to the view that he escaped because he wanted to and came back because he wanted to. He should do fine with her and her family.

crazynanna · 27/01/2014 21:54

So do I, cozie Smile

She has some really good pictures of him now. When she has calmed down crying (just called her and cannot understand a word due to sobbing) I will get her to send them to me and will put them on my profile

She must have been feeling even more awful than we imagined. She'll sleep well tonight. (In between getting up every couple of hours to check on him!)

Looking forward to the new pictures.

When I messaged her earlier to ask of any news, this was her reply:

'Hi Crazy..no news. I am so worried. Left his food and litter tray out so he can smell himself. I feel guilty. I don't know what I should have done better'

She was so upset.

But all is well with the world now Smile

I hope she didn't cancel his chipping appointment tomorrow night?

Remind her to get a little taste treat in for when he gets home from the vet. (If it's any consolation, The Lodger, who was an ex street cat, didn't even notice the needle going in - he was too focussed on a couple of cat biscuits the vet nurse was holding out to him.)

timtam23 · 27/01/2014 22:12

What a relief! This thread is such a rollercoaster of emotions - sadness, hope, worry, joy, panic, then joy again Grin

crazynanna · 27/01/2014 22:16

Yes cozie..she still has the appointment, and I have told her to just think the needle is worth it.

Timtam I know..I am bloody exhausted! Grin

Now that is a rogue - but a handsome rogue!

crazynanna · 27/01/2014 22:35

Isn't he just beautiful?

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/01/2014 22:36

He's got a look "I'm sexy and I know it Wink"

He is truly gorgeous

Crazy he is lovely, very striking with his black back & stripy sides

thecatneuterer · 28/01/2014 00:47

Oh gosh. We haven't had a thread with so many ups and downs and heartstopping moments since the cat covered in diesel by the neighbour.

Thank heavens he's back. I can count the number of times that I've thought I've lost a cat and it's actually been secreted somewhere in the house. But when you see them actually leave then you would naturally assume that they have in fact left:)

So glad it's not the case.

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/01/2014 19:47

Any news? Is he chipped now?

Sparklingbrook · 28/01/2014 19:48

Please say the trip to the vets passed without incident.

Trip to vet all done, along with worming and fleeing.
He is going to have his jabs in 2 weeks, as we do not know his immunisation history.

My colleague is completely under the paw. He is now 'Russell' (after Russell Crowe). X says he never answers to a name. When she adopted him, his name was Poo Yin (first crappy owner was a Thai lady), I called him Stanley as a reference to the HC where I work and found him..so now he is Russell.

I prefer Stanley.

Colleague says he is a classy, educated boy. Eats daintily, leaves food in the dish. When she puts down 2 treats..he eats one. He cried for the first 2 nights (probably to go out) but stopped on the 3rd night. My colleague slept with him in the lounge on the crying nights to make him feel not alone.
The day he hid in the house..he hid for nearly 19 hours! Shock
He has a new wicker basket carrier, an igloo to sleep in, a scratching post..and he has ignored the lot Grin

She has bought a harness ready for when the big day arrives for a walk in the garden, but that is a few weeks away.

He doesn't go onto her bed, and will only jump up onto the sofa when invited. What a gent!

He loves a back rub and to be brushed and loves nose-kisses. He is in love with her DH.

I have to say, looking at my nutty, fickle scratchin-my- chair girl..I am Envy

Russell Stanley is home Smile

I prefer Stanley as well. But it's so good to hear that he's settling in!

Sparklingbrook · 29/01/2014 21:21

He sounds very polite. Grin perhaps he is waiting to get his paws under the table.

crazynanna · 29/01/2014 21:23

Yes I think he is a Stanley.

I think he already has his paws well and truly entrenched Sparkling Wink

What a story - I've just read the whole thread with my heart in my mouth.
When I read that he had run away I was about to post my miracle story of the cat-who-came-back!

He is a beautiful boy and how lovely that he has his happy ending.
Well done crazynanna.

ExitPursuedTheRoyalPrude · 29/01/2014 22:09

So glad he has found a home.

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/01/2014 22:22

He's not living rough & that's the main thing. You did really well crazy.

Thank you

Do you know....I was never an animal person...or so I thought.
I never disliked animals, just thought they were a bit smelly with lots of roaming hair, and just sort of respected them from afar. Would not ever, ever thought to get a pet.

Then I got my Crazykitten Smile
And I tell you...I was amazed at the speed of which I became besotted with animals, all animals. birds in my garden, donkeys on cruelty adverts Sad, and elephants...my dream would be to save all the elephants.

This is the first time I have helped animal. And boy, does it feel good Smile

Elephants. Sigh.
