The litter tray

HELP! Garage have found a tiny KITTEN under my bonnet!

Took car in for service this morning and garage phoned to say they'd lifted the bonnet & found a tiny tiny kitten...After recovering from the shock I walked over to pick it up & it's absolutely tiny - maybe 5 weeks? Eyes are open...All I've managed to establish so far is it's male - white with tabby patches - it's hungry and it's covered in fleas! We are a cat-loving household & have 2 very geriatric cats, hadn't bargained on a kitten at all but have to admit it's very cute. But I'm clueless about kittens - 18 years since I had one! Have given it a bit of chicken/ham food for adult cats, which it devoured, and phoned the vet, but what else should I do?

Oh he's soo tiny. He could be a guide cat for your old cats and a great comfort to you when the time comes...

I have a practical dh too.

In my experience, it's the practical ones that fall the hardest when they do fall.

I can't remember who suggested finding out Karl-the-mechanic's surname, but I asked this afternoon, and I think it works as a kitten name (although sadly gives no opportunity for lots of puns about cars), so...

The kitten's name is DUDLEY!

He is really cute, perked up a lot over today and is trying to play with pingpong balls (but a bit too scared still!)

He was on DH's lap this afternoon Grin and is on mine at the moment, although am not convinced that all the fleas are gone yet [yuk emoticon]

Geriatric cats are not too impressed but we didn't expect them to welcome him with delight, so will take it slowly.

On the bright side one of my friends has been looking into getting a kitten recently so she has said if we really can't keep him she would like to have him

A secure future for Dudley then - either way.

Awww Envy Dudley is very cute.

DS2 is really, really jealous. He wants a kitten but I won't let him, he knows that if one found it's way under our bonnet I'd let him keep it. The hamster wouldn't be happy though!

Thank you everyone this has been such a lovely thread for me to read through too, I never expected so many responses when I first posted. I've rushed about so much today, not helped by the car being out of action, and I've been worrying about the kitten as it really wasn't part of the life plan right now! But I think one way or the other he will end up in a good home.

Aww, Dudley is gorgeous. He's a very lucky kitten, whether he stays with you or goes to your friend. But my money's on your dh growing very attached to him... Grin

Aww, I was going to make a witty remark about how your DH can't dump Stig Smile but Dudley is a fab name, and lovely that he could have a home with your friend if not you!

Loving the story and the name for your kitten (a matter of time only...)

Sparkling, out of curiosity, do you spend all day at the computer pressing 'refresh' on MN and waiting for stray kitten threads to turn up? Or do you have a siren that goes off when someone starts one? Grin

I think in Active Conversations I am drawn to the word 'kitten' Fair. Plus The Litter Tray is one of a handful of my unhidden topics. Grin
