I think this might be FABCat's last thread

This morning she was coughing and has also had a sloppy bowel accident outside. She wasn't interested in breakfast even though I didn't come down until after 9 and she wasn't about when DH left at 7. He normally feeds her before he goes. I had to put the plate under her nose to get her to come and ear.

Her back legs are a bit wobbly and I will take her for a jab on Monday to hopefully get some relief. She didn't wee over night so that is postiive but when I was comforting her when she was coughing it really hit me that she is very old and isn't my baby anymore Sad.

She has lasted for DD's birthday but I am not sure she will make her own Sad.

I have just put a towel on the sofa for her to sit on, just in case, but she wasn't impressed and has jumped down on to the floor.

My cat is getting to the end of her life and I am not sure I will ever get over it Blush.

She means the world to me, is the only thing in the world that is 100% mine, and I will miss her so much.

I love FABCat a bit too much so it upsets me when the kids say things I have mentioned.

FABCat just moaned in her sleep. She is so pretty.

I hope it goes okay today, LBT. I am sure you must be heart broken.

Thinking of you this morning LBT.

Thinking of you LBT.

Glad to hear that Fabcat is rallying at the moment Fab.

Littlebluetoo · 15/08/2012 15:04

Well it's done...
Horrible, horrible, horrible but the right thing to do. The ginger and I snuggled on the sofa yesterday evening and he was on my pillow all night. He was purring right up to the end even as the vet gave him the injection. I'm afraid I wimped out and asked if a nurse could help as I knew I couldn't hold him on my own - just wanted to run away really! My 11yo DD was fantastic! I had said she could come if she wanted as I have always impressed on her that this is part of looking after animals. She wouldn't leave until he was gone, sobbing as she buried her nose in his fur while she cradled his head. He was the cat that taught her as a little child how to respect and treat animals and I guess he is the cat that teaches her how to say goodbye.
The vet was so kind and gentle with him and talked to the ginger all the way through, for that I am eternally grateful. He gave us as much time as we wanted to say goodbye and let us out the back of the vets so we didn't have to walk past all those waiting. He is such a lovely man and doesn't make you feel like a nutter when you are sobbing over a scrap of fur!
FAB it occurred to me last night that I had hijacked your thread. I'm sorry. I can't say any of these things to people in RL without getting the "its just a cat" look from them. Well they aren't just cats are they... Some of them give us more love than we find in the human world and so we feel their loss more sharply.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that FABcat continues to do so well! Thanks for your thoughts guys.

cozietoesie · 15/08/2012 15:59

So very sorry, LBT. It's hard.

Hope FABcat is doing well today, Fab.

JustFabulous · 15/08/2012 16:15

LBT, you haven't hijacked the thread. This is for anyone who wants.

I am so glad it went as well as any of us could hope for and that the vet was kind. I am not taking the children with me when it happens for FABCat but wondered now if I should. I just can't though.

FABCat is coping with her reduction in food. She now has half a sachet at breakfast and the other at tea and a tiny amount of renal biscuits for supper. She was having a sachet at each meal and a small handful of biccies but she has put 0.3kilos on in a week which isn't helping her poor legs.

I think it is completly dependent on what the children are like, how they might react and how you feel as to the decision for them to attend this sort of thing. My DD is a very keen animal owner has been responsible for some of the less appealing aspects ( cat litter!) so when she asked to come I felt I had to respect her choice. I know some adults I wouldn't want with me as well so I think you just have to go with your own judgement.

JustFabulous · 15/08/2012 17:50

I don't want them with me for my own selflish reasons. I got her in October 1994 which was before I met DH and had the children so need to grieve for me, alone, as she is more mine that theirs and I don't want to have to deal with them at that moment as well. It will be booked for when DH is here to spend some time with us all before I take her and to help them while I am away at the vet.

FABCat just asked for some ice cream Shock. It was home made strawberry ice cream (strawberries, icing sugar and double cream only) and I offered a tiny bit not expecting her to eat it but she did!!

Littlebluetoo · 15/08/2012 18:18

Mmmmmmmm! Icecream!

changeforthebetter · 16/08/2012 16:29

So sorry for your loss LBT Sad un-MN (())

FABCat is now sleeping after playing loads today with a piece of elastic Grin.

How are you feeling today LBT?

Ahhhh. Lovely to hear FABcat having fun! Feeling sad but OK. It is so hard to believe he isn't somewhere in the house! I still have the feeling that I'll go into a room and be greeted with a chirup (sp?).
Giving my daughters cat lots of attention now, if only to have something furry to cuddle! I have made it very clear to Blue that he is mearly a stand-in and is still a lowly apprentice to the Ginger so not to go getting any ideas about being the main man in the house. Not sure he agreed with me...

Blue wants to be top red! Grin

So sorry you had to do that, CFTB. Maybe you could open the box if you want to scatter them.

OP posts:
changeforthebetter · 17/08/2012 15:28

I have a horror of messing it up and ending up with the poor lad's remains all over the new flooring

JustFabulous · 17/08/2012 15:47

Put some newspaper on the floor as it is easy to fold that into itself and funnel the ashes back into the box if needs be.

OP posts:
Littlebluetoo · 17/08/2012 16:27

Ashes can be tricky but I'm so glad you can have animals cremated now. So much easier than having to bury them yourself if you don't have a huge garden you can dedicate to be "pets corner".

JustFabulous · 21/08/2012 20:55

FABCat had her jab yesterday and is doing really well. She has lost 200g. Went for the vet twice. Glared at a dog that wanted to play with her.
