Missing cat has returned but ....

Charley went missing just under a year ago...searched everywhere, did leaflet drops etc, many sightings but no one could get him. We now have two females, both spayed. I thought I saw Charley last week, just a fleeting glance so wasn't sure. Then yesterday dh clearing out his works van, I was out there too and along comes Charley following one of my females :) I was patient, sat down near them as they laid together under a car then watched them following each other about. He did at one point lay in front of me, but I was worried about scaring him. He came back AGAIN about an hour later..went to follow our female into the house then she turned round and went back out !! So he sat on our front garden for ages...when I called him he would look at me but didn't make any attempt to come up to me or dh (he was Charleys fav :) ) I took lots of photos have compared them to when he was younger and the markings are exactly the same.
What do I do now?? I am eagerly waiting for him to pop up again hopefully should I attempt to approach him? Should I put his old bed out for him?? Any ideas?

That is a very good idea :) I could gradually encourage him out there with food so I think I will try that and it may take a few days but hopefully it will be do-able.

Thank you x

He seems willing to adapt and as he likes the girls their smell will hopefully be comforting for him.

RandomMess · 17/05/2012 12:36

He obviously senses that you intend to take him to the vets!!!!

Well done with the perserverence.

Hello :o well the boy cat returns every day :) at various times though. Yesterday he came in the afternoon and I thought I would check at night and he was on the mat asleep, so he was fed twice :o He comes in the house whether me or dh call him and no matter who is here (my mum was over this weekend) he is friendly with us will come over for a stroke but not for long. He is still eating in the living room as I have been attempting to get him to know the dog is there, which I think he is as he is a little jumpy when she is in the house but he can't see her as she lays in the dining room. Once the kids are back at school tomorrow I shall aim to move the food further into the house to the utility where the girl cats sleep and eat and where the cat flap is. I have a plan :o :o

topknob · 20/05/2012 21:39

Just found him on door step, fed him lots of whisked titbits and picked him up. Grin not for long as he started wiggling but I did it Grin he got so much attention and fuss and after he filled his boots he went off with milly (girl cat) Grin

Time for a little update Grin charley turns up every day now although at different times, he strolls in no problem Smile I have started to take his food further into the house each time. Today I have put a collar on him Smile no problem again. I also brought cat nip Grin I have never used this before and he really liked it, was rolling around in it for ages then he laid under my car for about an hour just chilling Grin Grin he comes to me for a fuss and even lays down for tummy runs so it is going ok Smile

Am worried, went out the front to see if he was about and he was in his bed, so he came in , with his shiny new flea collar on ;) and I shut the door Shock had some food and he wasn't stressing much at all, then I went upstairs, heard dog barking in garden, came downstairs and realised he had got out of dining room window :( hence dog barking :( hope he comes back tomorrow :(

Hi topknob I have been lurking on your thread so glad to hear he came back, my Uncles cat came back after over year away, just wandered in the house one day. Did your other cat come back?

topknob · 31/05/2012 21:16

Yes I have both girls here, although they worry me often by going off for the day/night.. Charley is one of a kind, in that he comes here to eat, will sleep on the sofa, lays about outside then just wanders off for a a few hours...but I have the collar on him, the next step is to keep him in and get him to the vets lol x

Getting the collar on is fantastic progress though. Keep going Smile

topknob · 31/05/2012 23:18

He has just been in again with the door shut Grin he was ok for a while then He went to the door and sat there meowing so I let him out and girl cat went out with him Grin he loves the catnip Smile the girls have no reaction to it but he does Smile so he was last seen rolling about in it his bed.

Don't forget it's warm now. When it gets colder he'll want to spend more time inside. This is a lovely thread. Do please keep updating it, OP.

Yey, keep us posted :)

topknob · 04/06/2012 21:30

I am so excited :o Charley has spent soo much time here over the last few days, more like a domestic cat :) he sleeps in his bed out the front more often than not now. When we open the door he is more than often there, so he comes in (no effort involved on our part) to eat, now in the kitchen (furthest part of the house) and we even shut the door. Tonight he spent about 15 mins in with me and dh, came to me for a fuss :) before he got on dh's case to let him out, very loudly :o . He evens goes to my daughters now for a fuss when they don't have food :) I have tried to upload a pic of what happened when I picked him up on Friday night...but it won't load, but it involves a big, long stratch on my neck :( so won't be trying that for a while. I have no idea how I will ever get him in a cat carrier Shock but I love the fact he is here so much and comes up to us for attention :)

Just sat and read all this thread. :)

Ooo Err on the scratch, maybe hold off on the picking up for a another week or so.

How has he been since the pick up?

topknob · 08/06/2012 10:39

He has been fine Smile but I didn't see him at all yesterday which I think is due to the fact it rained all day Angry will keep an eye out today for him but the weather is still rubbish !
