Missing cat has returned but ....

Charley went missing just under a year ago...searched everywhere, did leaflet drops etc, many sightings but no one could get him. We now have two females, both spayed. I thought I saw Charley last week, just a fleeting glance so wasn't sure. Then yesterday dh clearing out his works van, I was out there too and along comes Charley following one of my females :) I was patient, sat down near them as they laid together under a car then watched them following each other about. He did at one point lay in front of me, but I was worried about scaring him. He came back AGAIN about an hour later..went to follow our female into the house then she turned round and went back out !! So he sat on our front garden for ages...when I called him he would look at me but didn't make any attempt to come up to me or dh (he was Charleys fav :) ) I took lots of photos have compared them to when he was younger and the markings are exactly the same.
What do I do now?? I am eagerly waiting for him to pop up again hopefully should I attempt to approach him? Should I put his old bed out for him?? Any ideas?

Todays update :) I saw him at 6 am this morning rolling around on a neighbours drive whilst my girl just sat there lol...nothing until 4.30pm whereby he approached my other girl, and she rolled down on the floor in front of him. I went off and got another pouch we purchased just for him and the 3 of them ate it together with no problems, dh was dishing it out. Then I sat outside both girls with me and he got so close to me I could have touched him but I didn't. He stayed for quite a while :) spraying all my hedges :) and then WALKED into my house :) :) he had a sniff about and then turned back round and sat watching dh outside for a while before leaving....I am waiting for him to turn up tonight but nothing as yet, however I am hopeful he can be fed tomorrow (if I see him) inside the house, maybe?

topknob · 27/04/2012 20:52

Really??? DH said you would all be bored by now lol :) I am so hopeful but am aware it may not happen x

Sparklingbrook · 27/04/2012 20:54

No, I'm not bored. What would happen if you shut the door behind him when he came in the house? Do you think he would freak out?

RandomMess · 27/04/2012 20:58

Slowly slowly does it Grin

Geordieminx · 27/04/2012 20:59

Am loving them too. Grin

Mibby · 27/04/2012 21:06

Fingers crossed it works for you. We did this with two strays (years apart), slowly coaxed them closer them grabbed them and kept them caged (big dog crate) for a while while being defleaed/ wormed/ neutered etc. Worked with both of them if you can ignore the indignant wailing for a couple of days when theyre first caught

LoopyLoopsTootTootToots · 27/04/2012 21:09

Loving here too. :)

topknob · 27/04/2012 21:30

aw thanks xx I will have him trapped once I can get him in, but I am so scared of scaring him :( I am hopefull as I said that maybe tomorrow I can feed him in the house...then I may think about closing the door :) then who knows what will happen..I might have to let him back out or he might be reasonable...we will see. If I can't feed him in the house I shall continue as we have been doing and wait a few days.

I have uploaded some pics, I hope I did it right lol...there is one before he left and the rest are from the last few days, including todays :)

boring :) I think you may be right. When he first went missing we had a call from an old dear who said she had seen him in her garden eating the cat food she left out for the hedgehogs :).
