I am worrying about my cat again [sad].

She just took ages to get half up to then settle down and didn't seem to know what to do with her front right paw. Then after a minute she got down off the sofa and went out of the room.

She is 16. Her kidneys are failing, she has arthritis and has hypoestesias. She is on 4 tablets a day and special food. I am taking her for an extra check up this evening as she wasn't very well at all last week and had lost weight. She looks like she might have lost more Sad.

The vet said we are not at that point yet but part of me worries we are but he doesn't want to say as he knows how potty I am about her. She did play a bit yesterday though and is eating the new food we had to buy her after refusing to eat anything else.

That's a good idea. I know it's a bit anal but when I was watching what my girl ate I weighed the biscuits I left down for her so I had an idea of what she'd eaten... Clearly only works if you've got just the one cat though. Hope she's eaten some more today.

TheOriginalFAB · 20/05/2011 21:47

She ate all her breakfast but only 1/3 of her tea but I gave her some biscuits at 9 and she was interested in those and seemed to be eating them. She has played a lot this week so I think she is still doing okay.

When our cat had cancer and the vet gave her 10 days to live, and we decided to let her have milk. She gained a little weight back, her fur improved, and she regained her energy. She lived for 6 more weeks.

Years ago, she loved milk very much. Then she was accidentally poisoned (we think) and had kidney failure and almost died, but didn't. Vet said to give her special food only, no more milk or fish, as they be bad for her. After a while she quit eating the special food, so we allowed her to eat regular food. She lived 10 more years. Then she got sick, and it was cancer.

She stopped eating, and lost weight, and the vet said she had maybe 10 days left. He said she could have anything she wanted.

We went home and poured a saucer of milk. I swear the look she gave me after a few laps was 'THANK-YOU SO MUCH". She drank milk several times a day and loved for 6 more weeks. Then we made one last trip to the vet.
She was terminally ill, I mean, at that point you give them what they want.
Hope she is still feeling happy, it seems that she is from your posts,

I am so sorry for your loss, iscream, but how amazing iscreamcat lived so much longer.

Last week we gave her cat milk for the first time in ages and she loved it. She is currently having half and half. Normal food for breakfast and renal food for tea with renal biscuits always available.
The vet has said bottom line she has to eat so to take breaks from the renal food when we have too. He agrees with us that a shorter, happier life on normal food is better than a longer life which is stressful for FabCat and us.

The receptionist showed us some spray to put on her food which makes it smell fishy and supposedly appetising but at £7 a bottle I said I would wait a bit.

DS1 has already planned what she will eat when it really is the end and he has added to it by saying that we are to lay it all out on the table for her to eat there. She often joins us sat on a chair when we have roast chicken Grin. Naughty FAB.

Not eaten much breakfast.

Not eaten much tea.

SadSad

Vet said her appetite will decrease. Did anyone else's cat with kidney failure eat less?

OP posts:
TheOriginalFAB · 23/05/2011 08:08

I am using this to keep track of FabCat's appetite.

Left her breakfast which was renal tuna Sad.

Vet next week to see how she is doing. She will be weighed and blood tests done.

FAB, sorry I haven't been around for the last few days - RL.

Nothing to add but I have been thinking about you and FAB-cat. Good idea to keep track of her intake here.

Seems she's drinking over eating atm. How is she otherwise? Are you giving her all 4 pills or have you cut those down still?

TheOriginalFAB · 23/05/2011 18:59

We have stuck to just giving her the 2 tablets but I put the one she used to like with her dinner so she can chose whether to have it or not.

I have the most gorgeous photo of her as a kitten and I went to get a copy done today so I can have one in my purse. I am taking her to the vet next week.

We lost our wonderful elderly cat a month or so ago.

He had a wonderful life but all of a sudden went downhill so so fast.

He was put to sleep at our home and on his favorite cushion, being scratched behind his ears.

Hope your cat rallies, sending you furry love.

I am just clearing the cupboards out in the utility room and I have found some toys I had forgotten she had. I rolled a soft one towards her but it tapped her on the tail and she walked off. She completely ignored me when I called her name over and over.

Just went to check on her and she is sat on the sofa arm. I will play with her after she has had her nap and hopefully that will make her hungry. I did manage to get her appetite encourager tablet in her. So here's hoping.

When do you see the vet again?

I know I'm banging on about it, but have you tried clear soup? It is really easy to make, just boil some chicken,, fish or meat for a while and then strain it. That way she'd be getting some protein in her. I'll shut up about it now Smile

TheOriginalFAB · 25/05/2011 12:02

She has eaten!!!! Grin

Vet is next Tuesday.

I will see if I have some fish in the freezer I can boil up for it and will give it a go, thank you.

Glad she ate yesterday FAB. Smile How's she doing today?

TheOriginalFAB · 26/05/2011 11:20

She hasn't eaten breakfast though was asking for it. I bought some very ££££ food for her today to tempt her with later. I had nothing to make into a stock/soup for her but she has eaten biscuits. She drank a lot of water last night as her dish was empty. Normally she always has 2 dishes of water but I had done a mega clean and forgot to put the second one down. She came up for some attention and is now chilling on the kitchen chair.

Thanks for asking.

I had to lay it on the line to the 2 youngest the other day as DD said that DS2 had pulled her head Angry.

She has had a small amount of food. I think she is missing being able to sleep out in the sun.

FabCat is very stinky tonight .

OP posts:
TheOriginalFAB · 28/05/2011 17:12

Okay, stinky stinky cat alert. I don't think she has weed on the sofa as there wouldn't have been enough time for it to dry without me seeing it but sat there is reeks of cat pee. Could she be dribbling? Is it part of her problem as she has never been a dirty cat since she was potty trained. I mean litter tray trained HmmGrin.
