Do you pick up other dogs' poo?

I'm not a dog owner and have no issues at all with responsible dog owners. Dog poo left by unsuitable dog owners, however, is such a blight - whether it's in the park - so that I have to be on guard as my daughter runs around - or mere yards away from our front door on the pavement, or on her walk to school. The sight of it makes me heave which means I honestly can't bring myself to pick the stuff up, even if it's near our house.

If you are a dog owner, do you pick up abandoned dog poo? If so, why? What motivates you to do that?

If not, why not?

Either answer is fine - I'm really just interested in the thinking behind it.

I do sometimes, mostly if my dog poos next to some abandoned poo, so it's dead easy to pick both up together.

Yes, we refer to them as karma poos. There is a limit to the number of poo bags I have on me, so it is limited, but I always try and make sure places lots of children walk (like the alleyway by the school) are clear

I don’t routinely, as it’s gross and a hassle and I don’t feel some kind of general responsibility for all dogs.

I have when it was in a playground with a lot of young kids around - my kids are old enough to spot it and just steer clear but it was near the toddler area, I had dog poop bags in my handbag anyway so not a big deal.

So I suppose I deal with it if I can in the same sort of way I might pick up broken glass if it was causing a hazard and I happened to have a newspaper with me so could wrap it up and deal with it safely.

I do if its near where someone will walk. I do at the dog park too, I don't want someone coming in after me thinking I left it.

I have five dogs of my own. I can get through 30 poo bags a day if I pick up every poo (some places near me ask for a 'stick and flick' method) - assuming 2x poo on a walk, 3 walks a day.

Poo bins usually only at the start of a walk and the end - so I could end up holding 8+ poo bags and heavy ones given my dogs are large. No way am I adding random poo to that.

Not usually. If I'm in a wood an it's on the path, I'll look for a stick and flick it into the undergrowth. But that's about it.
Warm poo from your own dog is fine, cold poo from an unknown I find a bit gross.

People are dreadful though. I saw a man trying to pull a dog away while the poor thing was trying to poo. It was at a row of shops, off an A road, out of town kind of place with lots of parking. I nearly always have a poo bag on me. I gave him one. Not that I needed to, he was coming out of a pet shop that would have sold plenty of poo bags. The poo was spread out in 'sausages' rather than in a heap. When I came back the same way I saw he'd picked up one of the sausages. People innit? The just don't give an, ahem, shit.

The only blight on the park I go to is dog shit. And yes I always get amused when seeing a dog owner scraping their shoe. Karma poo is an apt name.

I once walked a popular 5 minute walk through a woodland near me and picked up all the dog poo I found. I filled up a bloody carrier bag! I just don't walk there anymore.

I would if it was somewhere near my house or somewhere like a door entrance or children's playing area.

Is it just me or for some reason does it feel far more 🤢 picking up someone else's dog poo compared with your own dog's? 🤣

Well, your own dog's poo is fresh and warm. Other dog's poo has been abandoned and feels horribly cold , even through a bag. Plus I know exactly what my dog has been fed.

Yes if I’m very close to a bin to fling it in. I’m not a fan of taking other people’s (dogs!) poos for a walk with me. I use enough poo bags for mine, only 1 spaniel but he never has been able to do just 1 big one. They are split into multiple little poos with anything up to 20 mins between each nugget, so don’t want an open poo bag for that long 🙄😅 there is a track coming off the downs where we walk regularly with a poo bin right by where I park. So on the way back I will generally gather up all the abandoned poos & Chuck them in. But there is something really grim about picking up a cold hard lost poo compared to a solid warm one from your own dog!

6 poos a day for each dog! What are they fed?

I dont tend to walk in busy dog areas or on the streets so dont usually see a ot of other peoples dog poo. I woud pick it up if it were very obvious and in the way of where people walk.

If I see one near where one of my dogs has just done one, then yes I pick it up. Easy enough to do, although it annoys me given I shouldn't have to do it.

Yes I do it all the time as I can’t stand dog poo everywhere. All poo is disgusting so I don’t see any difference if it is from my dog or someone elses

No, I don't know if other people worm their dogs. Obviously if I'm looking after a friend's dog, I know they do, and I would, because I chose the responsibility of looking after that animal.
I don't pick up other parents' used nappies/control their children for them either. It annoys me that dog owners are branded together like one group-we don't ban kids from places just because some parents don't clean up after them.
I could say I was busy and have too much to do as it is (illness aside), but that probably applies to most people.

I don’t, but I might if it was on a footpath. Thankfully we live in an area where people are well behaved about picking up their dog’s shit.

Picking up the shit of a dog other than my own is somewhat revolting - a bit like changing the nappy of someone else’s baby. 🤢

I’ve never been able to decide which is worse, the cold damp feeling ones or the warm damp feeling ones. It really put me off getting a dog 😅. Mine had very firm poos, not particularly smelly, because of diet so it was usually much less unpleasant.

But I pick up others on the assumption that A someone has to, better me than a non dog owner, and B odds are I probably missed a few at some point, so I’m making up for it.

I am part of a beach clean group and do group litter picking, as part of that I will pick up cold abandoned poop.

No. Happy to pick my dog’s poo up but other dog poo is disgusting. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes, if I'm literally right next to a bin, I'll pick it up. Not going to carry it round with me though (I carry my own dog's poo around)

Yes I often do, especially it’s on a footpath that someone may be walking , I pretty much always have a whole roll of poo bags .
