Do you pick up other dogs' poo?

I'm not a dog owner and have no issues at all with responsible dog owners. Dog poo left by unsuitable dog owners, however, is such a blight - whether it's in the park - so that I have to be on guard as my daughter runs around - or mere yards away from our front door on the pavement, or on her walk to school. The sight of it makes me heave which means I honestly can't bring myself to pick the stuff up, even if it's near our house.

If you are a dog owner, do you pick up abandoned dog poo? If so, why? What motivates you to do that?

If not, why not?

Either answer is fine - I'm really just interested in the thinking behind it.

To me, it feels like it’s different when it’s your own dog. It’s not a fun part of dog care, but I love my dog so it’s part of caring for her.

As others have said, if there is one near where she has gone, and I am close to the bin, then I may as well pick it up, but I don’t feel a collective responsibility to make up for other people’s bad manners.

I do, especially if it's on a path or pavement where someone is likely to step in it. In the woods I just flick it into the undergrowth wth a stick (although I pick up my own dog's poo wherever we are).

I often pick up non-disgusting litter when out and about, but just can't stomach dog poo. It's so nice to hear that - those who can stomach it - do the same but with the poo. Thank you!

No! For some reason, I’m not at all squeamish about picking up my own dog’s poo…but someone else’s dog makes me want to heave!

I don’t have a dog but have ended up carrying poo bags with me to clear up mess that is left in the children’s play area or the middle of the pavement.
my relative is visually impaired and it can be a real hazard for them…

It does not make me any fonder of dogs( and their owners)

I do at our local village park as I'd hate for children or the elderly to step in it accidentally. Although I draw the line at big dog's poo, so let my DH deal with those. (My four dogs are all small to medium.) Yes, we often collect more rogue karma poos than our own dogs.

There are bins and even free large, thick poo bags supplied by our village at the park entrances. There is very little excuse for people to not pick them up. (We bring our own bags, as the free ones should only be for emergency use, although some people treat them as their own supply.)

Don't get me started on the HUMAN that leaves their poos around our village! Several of us have dogs that have rolled in that sicko's offerings. It's even worse than the usual fox poo.

We have a small army of volunteer litter pickers that meet up every Tuesday. I don't think they pick up dog poos either.

I would only pick up poo from my fourth or a dog I am walking.

I have seen people spray poos with fluorescent paint. It stops the unsuspecting from treading in it - and after a day or two no new poos appear.

Picke up a few bags abandoned at the start of a walk lazy bastards love to catch ‘em!

If it's somewhere where it's likely to be trodden on, I'll pick it up (if I have enough bags) or (if in the woods etc) kick it under the bushes.

I've picked up quite a lot of abandoned dog poo in my time. As PP have said, cold poo is seriously gross, but thinking that someone might tread in it is even worse.

I pick it up if it's outside my house.

Yes, I do sometimes. If I have the bags with me. I see it as part of my civic duty.

Yes - I will very often if its on a path where I know people will stand on it and if I have enough poo bags with me. Poo is poo tbh - I've picked up far worse from my own dog! I also pick up other people's discarded bottles, cans etc.. I won't pick up dirty hankies

No, it turns my stomach. The same as I couldn't change another child's nappy other than my own child's.

Out of interest people that use none -biodegradable bags - where do you think your bag/poo ends up?

I always pick up my dogs poo, I carry a poo bag on his lead.

If it's six feet or so from where my dogs deposit, yes, I do pick it up. And occasionally if a huge pile has been left on the recreation field.

I pick it up most of the time. It does feel more gross though. People do stupid things like leave bagged poo plopped on the post of a sheep field.

Yes, dog poo just seems mildly offensive once you've witnessed your dog eating human shite.

I do, and I don’t even have a dog. I only do it near where I live, so I can bring a bag from my house. I pick up litter as well.

It’s the same principle as nappy changing I think. Own kids - not remotely a problem. But someone else’s child…nope!

If it’s where children play, then yes.

My co-worker was late for work yesterday because her dog got loose. She saw a woman walking her dog and asked if she'd seen it. The woman said she'd seen it and picked up its poo.

This is why I couldn’t be a dog mum!
