Do you pick up other dogs' poo?

I'm not a dog owner and have no issues at all with responsible dog owners. Dog poo left by unsuitable dog owners, however, is such a blight - whether it's in the park - so that I have to be on guard as my daughter runs around - or mere yards away from our front door on the pavement, or on her walk to school. The sight of it makes me heave which means I honestly can't bring myself to pick the stuff up, even if it's near our house.

If you are a dog owner, do you pick up abandoned dog poo? If so, why? What motivates you to do that?

If not, why not?

Either answer is fine - I'm really just interested in the thinking behind it.

No OP the only time Ive ever picked up another dog’s poo is if my dog has wandered a ways from me and I can’t find where they’ve gone. So I’ll pick up any poo that’s around.

No, I never did that. I would have never got anything done if I had started cleaning up after other people's dogs.
I was used to picking up my own dog's poo even though it took me a while after getting her. No way would I be able to pick up someone else's. It is just "different" to me.

No, I do my own due diligence but couldn’t stomach picking up another dogs poo, and there are a few rather nasty zoonotic diseases humans can get from dogs.

I sometimes leave a poo bag hanging on a fence (on a very lightly used footpath) so that I don't forget to collect it on my way home - at that point I'm close to the start of a 2.5 mile walk and really don't fancy carrying it the whole way. It's never there more than an hour, though.

If I'm heading towards a poo bin and see someone picking up poo at the start of their walk, I'll offer to bin it for them.

It frustrates me when owners dont pick up after their dogs.
I dont own a dog for the pure reason picking up after it would make me vom. Its not fair on others to have to see it or accidentally tread in it. Dog poo that is.

My own dog's poo I'm not as grossed out by. I don't LOVE it obvs but I'm not sqeamish about it.

Other dogs' poos are disgusting and I would never touch them double or even triple bagged.

It doesn't make sense but that's the way it is.

Very rarel, and as others have said, if my dog poos right next to another one I might. If it's on a path and it's kind of dried I will push it to the side to avoid people walking in it.

Not routinely, however as others have said if it’s right next to my dogs then yes I do. I also pick it up if it’s in middle of a footpath or near children play equipment.

We've just been asked to do this by the local residents association or whoever they are. It made me feel a bit queasy if I'm honest, though like others I have done it if it's in a place likely to cause big issues.

The residents association has also just had the gates on our little green square affixed with "keep dogs on leads" signs so I'm feeling a wee bit resentful towards them right now. Any inkling I had to pick up another dogs poo I've swiftly ditched

Yes I am a giant dog owner so I always have more than enough giant poo bags on me to help out. Just seems like the right thing to do, I don’t even think about it.

I also pick up rubbish when I see it lying around and carry it with me to the next bin, just seems silly not to.

I am a dog owner and I hate how many people don't clean up after their dogs. I have two young kids who walk with me regularly and I hate how much dog poo there is. It's really not that hard to pick up after your own dogs.

But no, I don't pick up after other dogs. Id challenge someone if I saw them leave it but I wouldn't clean up poo just left there.
I worry about how many people feed raw or god knows what else, if the dogs have disease, worms etc. not a risk im willing to take.

Same as others have said, other dogs poo weirdly turns my stomach. But... I do pick up others solid ones if it's next to where mine has done one... Very begrudgingly and I do have to hold my breath and block out the action from my mind but makes no real difference to my day.

I have bagged up old, cold poo plus the gross tree bags/dumped squished bags when I got absolutely sickened seeing it constantly on my walk through the farm lonnings route. Took plenty of gloves and a bag just to clean up the disgusting mess some humans just ignore. And on that note, balloons don't go to Heaven either... But yeah, while I'm able to, I feel strongly about living in a clean environment for everyone and wildlife. I'm an occasional secret woodland litter picker 😅

When i had a dog, I picked up other dogs poo on my street. A few reasons: it's not very well lit and I didn't want to tread in it if I was walking to the shop in the dark, my young child could tread in it, and it's good to do something nice for the neighbourhood.
I started doing it when one day my dog did a poo in some autumn leaves and I couldn't find it to pick it up. So I picked up another poo i saw, because that way I felt at least I wasn't adding to the dog poo problem. Then I gradually started picking up any poo I saw.

I don’t pick up other dogs poo. I have two dogs and obviously always pick theirs up but so many people around here do not. It’s very grim but I don’t see why I am responsible for other people’s disgusting laziness.

I use exactly the same phrase! Karma poos to make the world a better place (or at least less smelly).
