And what are the advantages of them being downstairs???

OP posts:
SometimesIwonderifishouldbemedicated · 02/07/2023 22:33

In a crate with a cotton sheet over the top. When it was really warm she slept in our bed but didn't seem overly happy and when it got cooler, took herself back to her crate.
It's definitely her safe space there is never even a sniff out of her during the night.

Purplecatshopaholic · 02/07/2023 22:38

In our bedroom. They have their own beds for sleeping though - they are too big for us all to sleep comfortably in our bed, lol.

hattie43 · 02/07/2023 22:38

On my bed

foxlover47 · 02/07/2023 22:38

They all sleep in the bed with me , one likes under the covers in the winter and the other two one beside me and one always likes the bottom of the bed , I love them
Being next to me makes me
Feel safe

captainsandyscrew · 02/07/2023 22:43

In our bedroom in her own bed. We tried to get her to sleep in the kitchen when we moved from a flat to a house but she howled and howled... she is a v clingy dog and would be next to her humans at all times if she could. She loves to sleep under the covers but I get to hot like that so we only let her under there for lie ins on a Sunday!

Duckingella · 02/07/2023 22:48

In there crates in the kitchen;they were crate trained as pups;they go in there when we're out also;Whilst I appreciate not everyone likes crates it's important as it gives them a safe space of their own to retreat to if needed.

TheTempest · 02/07/2023 22:49

2 of mine sleep in my bed. 1 on the sofa (he gets aggressive to feet!) and the old girl in one of the dogs beds around downstairs as she can’t see anymore and isn’t safe on stairs. They are all rescues and all choose where they sleep!

itsapalaver · 02/07/2023 22:52

In a covered crate in the kitchen, which she loves before the crate haters pile on.

I don't see any advantage of having a dog sleep upstairs. I've had them sleep on the same floor as me on holiday when I've been staying in an apartment/bungalow and they'd wake up when I went to the loo which I invariably do twice a night. Can't be arsed with "go back to sleep! No it's not time for breakfast" every time I move.

I've had one sleep in an hotel room with me who kept kissing me in the night as well, I mean it's nice to be loved but still.

itsapalaver · 02/07/2023 22:56

Just seen your next post about the weather, mine still has the door closed but I leave the front cover open and have a tower fan on, which has worked out fine (our kitchen doesn't get direct sun so is the coolest room in the house anyway)

PrtScn · 02/07/2023 23:01

My old girl used to sleep on her chair downstairs. My new puppy sleeps on the bed. I did try her in a crate but she wasn't having any of it, so I have given up on crate training. I was worried she'd pee the bed, but she usually wakes me up for a pee/poo around 4-5ish and then we go back to bed.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 02/07/2023 23:07

Mine slept on the bed, always.

Lost him three weeks ago today. 😞

SirenSays · 02/07/2023 23:08

@ZeldaWillTellYourFortune I'm so sorry for your loss 💐💐💐

Nellieinthebarn · 02/07/2023 23:09

In the bedroom on the floor (carpet) beside the £150 dog bed we bought for him.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 02/07/2023 23:18

Thank you,@SirenSays . I'm still so upset.
He was 12, but a chihuahua. Thought we had another year at least.

Thank you. Flowers

ejbaxa · 02/07/2023 23:43

My dog sleeps in a crate in our room by our bed.

he’s tiny, the crate is massive. It has nice soft dog bed which he can choose to curl up in one side of, or lay out completely flat on his back with his paws in the air. It’s also covered on the top and 3 sides with a blanket so it’s a lovely den. he can smell us and hear us and he’s very happy in it.

WomanFromTheNorth · 02/07/2023 23:46

In my bed. I love having him there.

Ihatepickingausername3 · 02/07/2023 23:52

At my old house downstairs.

At this new house in my bedroom because it’s noisy and she will bark at anyone passing the house when she’s downstairs alone. No problem with her upstairs at all. Sleeps beside my bed on the floor.

RestingMurderousFace · 02/07/2023 23:52

The big two have a sofa each downstairs. The little one has her own bedroom. 🙄

BreviloquentBastard · 02/07/2023 23:53

Downstairs in their baskets/on the sofa/in the middle of the kitchen floor so I trip over them when I go for a drink.

Unless there's a thunderstorm in which case all three of them take over our bed. They are not small dogs. A Scottish Deerhound, a Greyhound and a Borzoi. It's all hair and elbows. They're lucky I love them.

littlejo67 · 02/07/2023 23:58

He has the run of the house, apart from the bedrooms. So he is mostly sleeping on the leather sofas or the wooden living room floor if too hot.

llangennith · 02/07/2023 23:59

Should've added to previous post that I cover the crate with a dark cloth completely when she's in the crate for the night. Otherwise she'll bark at anything in the garden.

TheFlis12345 · 03/07/2023 00:00

He sleeps in his bed in the living room (though he has the run of downstairs). He usually settles in there while we watch Tv in the evening then sleeps though after we go to bed. He is trained not to come upstairs so will stand at the bottom and whine or bark on the very rare occasion he is poorly or needs the toilet in the night.

magicstar1 · 03/07/2023 00:08

Downstairs. She has a big bed in the hall, and another in the living room. She had a small op last year and we let her on the couch to recuperate and she loved it, so we put a big blanket on the couch for her too. She normally starts on the floor, then hops up on the couch during the night.
When we’re on holiday or camping, she sleeps on the bed or between us.

weareallout · 03/07/2023 00:16

Down stairs behind baby gate

Floralnomad · 03/07/2023 00:24

Ours starts off on our bed , then his bed in our room and then he wakes my husband up at some point during the night to be escorted downstairs to his bed in the main lounge . He has to be taken down as he’s been very unwell and I don’t trust him completely on the stairs alone
