And what are the advantages of them being downstairs???

Bella has the run of the house but she isn't allowed to sleep in bedrooms occupied by humans. She has a blanket of the sofa, she has a bed on the bed in the spare bedroom. She sleeps between the sofa and the spare bedroom so sometimes when I say goodnight to her she is on the sofa but is in the spare bedroom when I get up and vice versa. If its hot she will sometimes sleep on the bathmat as that's the coolest place in the house.

My dog can choose where he wants to sleep. He has beds in various locations. He usually chooses his upstairs bed, but when the weather is hot he prefers the bare wood floor downstairs.

@ExcitedannieI would say it's quite unusual for a dog of 13 months to be having frequent accidents. If physical causes have been ruled out, it might be due to toilet training and/or anxiety of some sort.

He has a bed in the hall and the run of the whole of downstairs. Mostly he seems to sleep on the floor by the front door. The bed must be softer but that's his choice.

Second sitting room downstairs with a bed and sofa covered in fluffy throws. She has slept in here for the whole year I've had her and happily jumps onto the sofa for bedtime. My cats are upstairs so it's not fair to let her up - they do get on but none would relax. And she settles better alone anyway.

Everywhere 😂 he has a bed on the kitchen but you can find him in the sitting room on the couch or armchair either

2 rather large doods here.

The young one starts the night loafing on his giant bed next to my side of the bed (he’ll jump on me for a pre-sleep cuddle then settle on his bed as soon as the light is off).

The old man starts the night on the rug at the foot of the bed, with only his toes on the massive dog bed, and usually by morning he’s sprawled across DH & my legs.

Both are 35kg plus.

If it’s very hot, they’ll either lay on top of the bed with us (in a sweaty dog pile), but with our giant fan on all of us, or they’ll mooch downstairs to the cool wooden floor, or the concrete of the utility room.

Sometimes, the old bear lays like a basking crocodile between DH & I, and it’s not unknown for any of us to wake up with the youngest one’s feet on our heads.

It works for us, it may not for others!

Hi, no accidents during the day - none for months and months. None overnight if he's in her crate with the door shut. None if she's in her crate, door open but a small run cordoned off. But give her the run of the living room? Yep - I usually come down to a wee in the morning!
