And what are the advantages of them being downstairs???

Aren’t we all softies where the Ddogs are concerned!!💖
I’ve been reading this thread with a smile on my face, imagining a nation settling down for the night, taking them for the last wee of the day, popping dogs into darkened cosy crates with night-time biscuits, humans squeezed into weird shapes in their own beds, trying not to disturb snoozing hounds, all of us saying ‘night-night’ to our beloved animals sharing our sleeping hours.
I have the dubious privilege of sharing a large bed with a large German Shepherd, who insists on having contact with me… lying alongside me is fine ( lovely in winter) but when she just has to share the pillows, it’s not so lovely… She stole, and ate, the best part of a dozen eggs yesterday… she’s been eye-wateringly whiffy today!
She’s currently snoring next to me in bed…
Still love her tho!😁

mondaytosunday · 03/07/2023 00:40

In my bed now. But first two years they were downstairs. When we moved it wasn't practical.

LadyWiddiothethird · 03/07/2023 01:14

On the floor in my bedroom,he won’t get on the bed when I am in it.As soon as I get up in the morning he jumps on the bed and comes downstairs at his leisure, sometimes it’s an hour later.

baggiesmalls · 03/07/2023 02:04

Mine seep anywhere they fancy.

Sometimes that's with me , often they chose the sofa or spare room.

My little man often gets in bed next to me.

Big man tends to
Come for cuddles but sleeps by front door

They're my furry bed bugs !

Ilikewinter · 03/07/2023 02:45

Hes currently in my bedroom doorway but ive just gotten up and he was initally in the spare room! He sleeps where he wants. He will jump on the bed for about 10 minutes but i think he gets too hot.

HamBone · 03/07/2023 03:43

Ours started off sleeping on his bed downstairs. Then he began sneaking upstairs after everyone was in bed and sliding under DS’s bed…he thought he was so cunning, but we all heard him creeping upstairs, plus he snores. 😂

Now he’s abandoned all pretense and and sleeps in DH’s and my bedroom.

He snores loudly and is generally a restless companion, but he’s 10 and clearly feels happier near us so we’ve moved his bed into our room.

Theoldwoman · 03/07/2023 04:13

With either of my young adult daughters or on the end of our bed. It really depends where the cat goes first as he is the boss.

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 03/07/2023 19:14

In our bed.

The cats have the run of downstairs overnight and while he's good with them, it's only fair on them to have some space imo.

Leonberger · 03/07/2023 20:23

Wherever they want, other than our beds!

They have the choice of many different beds, blankets and rooms. I hate the thought of them being restrained and unable to move about if they want.

Most of the time though they all sleep on the hard kitchen floor…

mamaca · 03/07/2023 20:25

In his crate in the kitchen - leave the door open, he loves his crate

MissingMoominMamma · 03/07/2023 20:28

Bigger dog (who sheds) sleeps on her bed downstairs. She likes her own space and I’m glad. Small rescue (who doesn’t shed) usually sleeps in my arms. I sleep like a log with him there.

buckingmad · 03/07/2023 20:31

On the bed. We love it. View it no differently to our toddler being in bed with us. Some nights is me, DH, toddler, dog and cat all together and they are my favourite nights. I wake up like a pretzel but it’s worth it being all together.

DH is away a lot with work and having the dog with me gives me a lot of comfort both loneliness wise and security.

Tulipvase · 03/07/2023 20:32

Our lab sleeps on the sofa in the living room. She isn’t allowed upstairs (due to her tormenting our elderly cat, doesn’t stop her listening intently every time the stair gate opens, just in case someone doesn’t shut it properly and she can make a bid for freedom). Not sure if I’d let her upstairs, I don’t want 30kg of dog in the bed really…. My youngest would love her to sleep in his room. We will see what happens when the cat dies.

Excitedannie · 03/07/2023 20:52

So the golden question - how do I get her to stop toileting overnight?! I know she can hold it because she does in her crate, but the minute she's free....!!!

How old is she?

Mine is 2 and still on occasions does a poo in the kitchen, less occasionally a wee. During the week she goes out at 10pm and is normally good till 7am.

I cant get too worked up over it, I sometimes have to go to the loo in the night and others not so…….. Also she doesn’t bark, so couldn’t let us know if she wanted to go out. I’d rather have a non barking dog than one that v occasionally does a wee on my tiled floor.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 03/07/2023 21:03

At the bottom of our bed with his head on my feet 🥰. He’s too big to sleep in the middle of us which is where he’d like to sleep. If he’s too hot, he takes himself to the corner of our room between the wall and the door and sleeps on the floor. No idea why it’s always that corner though.

In there crates in the kitchen;they were crate trained as pups;they go in there when we're out also;Whilst I appreciate not everyone likes crates it's important as it gives them a safe space of their own to retreat to if needed.

As long as you don’t close the cage crate door then there’s no harm. You’re not supposed to leave them locked up in those things for extended periods of time such as overnight or when you’re out. Door open is fine though.

Maraudingmarauders · 03/07/2023 21:10

Ours sleeps in a crate in the utility room. We are slowly trying to wean her out of it being closed door, but she obviously hates it. Occasionally she sleeps in our room (if we are travelling, or its too hot/cold downstairs) but she hates that too and doesn't settle. I feel like we are making progress with the open crate but it's taking time.
She's a rescue, nearly 6years old. We got her at about 15months and crate trained her as she was hugely destructive and now she adores the thing.

missingthewinchesterboys · 03/07/2023 21:18

6 month old in crate downstairs.
The dog doesn't go upstairs unless it needs a bath.
Cats rule from the bottom step up!

13 months so perhaps I'm expecting too much!!!!! She's practically perfect tho so she's set the bar high GrinGrinGrin

Was on my sons bed or in his own bed in sons room but now often find him at the top of the stairs. Guarding I think. I usually put him back in his bed cos he doesn't seem to be properly when he's top of the stairs!

powershowerforanhour · 03/07/2023 22:00

On the fake leather sofa in the kitchen. Sometimes the Jack Russell uses the spaniel as a pillow but at the moment he is curled up beside me with his nose in his tail like a fox. If the children leave the kitchen door open in the morning at the weekend, they both sneak upstairs and are quite good at ninja-ing onto the bed. If you throw down a coat (or any article of human clothing, a pair of jeans will do) either of them will happily curl up on it beside the bed/ near the workbench/under a tree/in the van/wherever especially if they are near you.

DanceMumTaxi · 03/07/2023 22:07

My mums dog sleeps on her bed, which is fine for her (on her own), but when the dog needs to stay with someone else it’s a pain. He absolutely won’t stay on the floor, he just gets on the bed. He’s very persistent. And he can’t be left downstairs because he scratches at the door. When he stays with us, one of us ends up in the spare room because there’s not enough space.

Babyroobs · 02/07/2023 22:27

In my bed. One tends to spoon me and one wraps herself around my feet.

Both of them are in my bed too. Both 35 kg each. One lies lengthways and sleeps in my arms - the other one is like a shepherd hook curling up and around my head. They look at me with such adoration and love ❤️ 😂

1 sleeps under my bed, 1 sleeps in my bed.

Sadly one of my JRT has died now but she always slept under my bed on an old blanket and my other one in bed …she is in situ now. We used to call their sleeping arrangements bunk beds .
