@tizwozliz I prefer the girls, so even more gorgeous to me 🙂 Is she still bitey?

@WhippyLongStocking She’s a beauty and still very much a puppy at 9 months.

tizwozliz · 22/07/2023 14:18

@AnnieSnap - thus far she's not really very bitey at all. The occasional nibble on my hand/wrist but easily redirected. Lots of bitey face games with older dog though so I'm not sure if that's the reason. Although tbh, older pup wasn't nearly as bitey as I'd expected either. We gained a few holes in clothes but never had to resort to things like wearing wellies round the house like I hear others report.

AnnieSnap · 22/07/2023 17:01

@tizwozliz I’m pretty sure I never had particularly bitey pups in the past and now aged 64, I’ve had lots of them. Florapup is horrifically bitey. I wonder if it’s like Labour pain and we forget how bad it is, so we’re willing to do it again 😂😳😬

Unluckycat1 · 22/07/2023 17:50

@AnnieSnap I really hope things went well at the hospital. And ouch, what sharp little teeth snappup has!

@WhippyLongStocking welcome! Your pup is gorgeous! There's a young whippet near me and watching it run is mesmerising. My pup is fast, but doesn't have the same smooth and graceful stride.

Unluckypup is 7 and a half months and seems quite different recently. I'm only really letting her off the lead in a fenced field (5 minutes away thank goodness) as she just breaks into a gallop instantly, whereas before she stuck closer unless there was a dog or ball. She's biting more, play biting, but still, it's quite annoying in the evenings. She's more vocal too, whining for particular toys that have rolled out of reach or been put away, and sometimes has a random bark in the night at things happening outside. She just seems a bit harder work, and I'm not sure if she's now a teen, or a season is looming.

AnnieSnap · 22/07/2023 18:54

@Unluckycat1 thank you. It looks like he had a series of mini strokes. He is home on meds now and the stroke team will be in contact again tomorrow or Monday. He has no loss of function and seams fine other than being tired and achey.

Riverlee · 22/07/2023 18:59

Welcome WhippyPup. Gorgeous face.

Orangebadger · 22/07/2023 21:12

Had a quick catch up!
@AnnieSnap sorry to hear your DH has been unwell but good to hear he's got no lasting effects. Your arms look very sore!!

Welcome @WhippyLongStocking gorgeous girl. We have a soft spot for whippets here and Orangepups most favourite dog in the world is a whippet and the feeling is mutual.

WhippyLongStocking · 22/07/2023 22:33

Orangebadger I had to look up Basset Fauves as I’d never heard of them. They are handsome dogs for sure. They look relatively compact but athletic so I can see how they might match a whippet and run about outside.

AnnieSnap I hope your DH is much better soon.

Orangebadger · 22/07/2023 23:55

@WhippyLongStocking yes there are not many in the UK, i think maybe 8 breeders. A more common sight in France though. They are medium sized but very solid and yes you are right they are very fast for such a stocky dog, she does a good job trying to keep up with her whippet friend, but man those legs are going at a million rpm!!

Here she is after her bath, not very happy

Ha that is a grumpy post bath face.
I’ve got an expression like that as dog managed wee and was put happily in crate (what she is used too) and them someone had really loud fireworks at 11pm.
as it’s July it was totally unexpected. Let’s hope she still has a settled night 🤦‍♀️

Chihowhow · 23/07/2023 12:40

Hello!! I am absolutely loving the puppy photos on here, they really make my day! @AnnieSnap, I’m sorry to hear about your husband, but am glad that there is no long lasting damage.

@WhippyLongStocking , I hope your night went well despite the fireworks.

I am feeling massively overwhelmed at the moment-we have had 2 successes outside, one wee and one poo. My timings must be wrong and I am feeling very stressed by it all. I feel like a total disaster and rubbish dog owner. She holds it until we come back in and then pees pretty much immediately.

We also went to the local park yesterday and an XL bully bounded up to us, scared Chipup, ripped my dress and coat and cut my thigh with his firm claws. I’m very glad that it was me that he greeted and not my 6 year old, but I don’t know what to do in that situation. It really hurt and the owner didn’t do anything to recall him or get him down-he just kept jumping up over and over again. It really hurt and still does if I’m honest. Need to learn to advocate better and grow a backbone! Xx

AnnieSnap · 23/07/2023 13:08

@Chihowhow thank you.

Regarding your experience at the park, sometimes no amount of back bone helps. If the owner of that dog showed no interest in what was happening, there is a good chance you would have got nowhere, other than possibly a mouthful of abuse, if you had said something. If it were me, I’d look out for them and keep clear. Annoyingly, I avoid going to one of my local parks because there are too often, this type of breed that is not under control.

Chihowhow · 23/07/2023 16:14

@AnnieSnap , I’m so sorry that you have to avoid a park because of other owners not controlling their dogs. That is really frustrating.

Ilikeblacklabsandicannotlie · 23/07/2023 16:34

@AnnieSnap sorry they're late but sending many hugs and sympathy regarding the bites. Hope your husband is doing ok, glad he's home. Someone at work asked if I needed to see the staff counsellor, I think they thought I'd started self-harming.

😂🤣😂🤣

Riverlee · 23/07/2023 18:57

@Chihowhow That would scare me a lot! Can you report it to 101? You’ve effectively been attacked by a dog. Take photos of your injuries.

Cocopuff · 24/07/2023 00:55

@AnnieSnap im glad your husband is home and hope he recuperates swiftly and recovers well.
@Chihowhow that sounds like a super scary experience. Their owner should definitely have intervened. I tend to avoid our dog park when there are huge dogs like that off lead

Gizlotsmum · 24/07/2023 09:55

So Gizlotspup has had dirahea (spelling) and been sick last night/ this morning. Seems ok on himself if a little sleepy and off his food.. but giving him a bath was not on the agenda for this morning!!

Chihowhow · 24/07/2023 10:02

Oh @Gizlotsmum , no!! I hope he firms up and feels better soon!!

Chihowhow · 24/07/2023 15:32

I have to leave Chipup for a few hours tomorrow to get a broken tooth fixed. I’m really worried. Do you have any tips or tricks? Leave the radio on, put something with my smell on it in the crate. Anything else? She will be crated but I’m worried about her.

BigBundleOfFluff · 24/07/2023 16:24

@Chihowhow . At that stage mine still slept all the time. Before leaving I would take for a walk/play/toilet so she was ready for a nap. Then would leave with a toy and a long lasting chew. She was always a confident pup so she may have whimpered for 30 secs then settled for chew and sleep.
I have webcams everywhere so could tell if she was unhappy - she never was.
I don't need to leave that often but she's not crated anymore. She wanders round the house, snoozes and stares out the window - she's a simple soul.

Ilikeblacklabsandicannotlie · 24/07/2023 21:27

Does anyone else have a pup who's fine training at home but absolutely goes to complete crazy dog in puppy class?

Yep!! Orangepup was nuts in puppy training. Too many distractions. She's very social and loves dogs and humans but could not say hello to them all the way she wanted. It was torture for her!!

Yep. Gizlotspup wants to play. It helps the class is small and I get there a bit early to walk him round the field to calm him down but he takes about half the session to focus and even then the first chance he gets he wants to play. Or he gets too tired to do anything 🙈although he can be like that anywhere to be fair. He is obedient as long as nothing more exciting is happening anywhere in the vicinity… and more exciting can be a fly, leaf, bird….

BigBundleOfFluff · 25/07/2023 19:32

@Chihowhow did it go ok today? Both with your teeth and leaving chipup??
