So I need shoes with better grip. Gizlotspup has pulled me over twice when I have slipped on wet grass ( so embarrassing) luckily he stops but want to prevent it . He wasn’t even pulling hard today.

Riverlee · 14/07/2023 18:50

@Cocopuff Riverpup went to the home boarders for ten days. He seem to settle and enjoy it. We took his bedding, food bowl and food.

When he came home, he was very tired, although it was during the hot weather. Plus he’d been playing with other dogs all the time. He was bewildered as to what was going on and was very quiet. I say it took four days for him to properly settle back in.

However, Cocopup may be more familiar with mil and her house. Have a lovely holiday.

Oh @Gizlotsmum that’s a tough call. I know you say you felt embarrassed. I hope you weren’t hurt. I’m 64, so it could be a big deal if I was pulled over (post-menopause bones and all that).

Gizlotsmum · 14/07/2023 20:11

Thank you. No I managed to slide gracefully (ish) to the ground and thankfully he stopped in confusion. Just very wet!! Still not warmed up. He is getting better at not pulling it has Ben a complete twat for half his walks this week!

BigBundleOfFluff · 14/07/2023 21:56

I've been pulled over. I did not fall over gracefully and my mouth also felt the need to be vocal about it and shriek. Fluffpup and my sister both thought it was hilarious. Mortifying especially when this ancient looking old biddy, seriously 100 at least, came over to ask if I was ok.
Waist lead now, but thankfully Fluffpup had some impulse control.
Hope you are ok now!

Unluckycat1 · 14/07/2023 22:09

Unluckypup nearly had the better of me just now. We were having a late walk as I thought one longish walk including a big play with a dalmatian would do for the day. It did not 😒 Turns out around 9pm the local field has a family of foxes running about ❤️❤️ which Unluckypup either wanted to very much play with, or tear apart... it was the former, right? (I love foxes 😭)

😁Better check them out!

Anotherblacklab looking like butter wouldn't melt but this is the state of my knees. Slowly getting better though. Definitely an improvement since she'd been able to go for walks.

Little pup is still fairly good on the bitey front, although she has got a little more mouthy the last few days. The start of teething I suspect.

3am wake up last night vomiting a chew that she hadn't chewed but she's mostly sleeping through the night now

@tizwozliz what a stunning picture!!!

Orangebadger · 18/07/2023 11:54

@Ilikeblacklabsandicannotlie ouch!

Both gorgeous pups @tizwozliz and @Ilikeblacklabsandicannotlie!

Anyone here with a dog with proper floppy, snoopy like ears? Orangepup has them and has an ear infection now. Great fun giving her those ear drops! Does anyone clean their dogs ears regularly?

Yes. We clean Gizlotspup’s ears weekly….he is not impressed but treats help

Florapup is still a landshark. It seems to ease off for a few days, but yesterday and today, it’s back with a vengeance and she’s become a bit manic when awake. I tell myself, this too shall pass 😳 @Ilikeblacklabsandicannotlie I sympathise, my arms look much like your knees. The walks do help.

Ilikeblacklabsandicannotlie · 18/07/2023 12:43

Thanks @AnnieSnap. Sad for your arms but good to know it's not just me! I'm living in shorts as she seems to ignore the legs if there's no fabric.

😂🤣 Florapup never ignores my arms 😳

Orangebadger · 18/07/2023 13:20

@Gizlotsmum what do you use?

OP posts:
Gizlotsmum · 18/07/2023 13:29

We use vet soothe clear plus and cotton pads. It still takes 2 of us!

Yes it's a real struggle with Orangepup.

I've just started cleaning fluffpups ears. One was a bit mucky looking for the first time a few weeks ago. Luckily I had her 1 year booster appointment at the same time so I was able to ask the vet to check her ears for grass seeds etc. They prescribed "clean aural". At a cost of £33 when it's £11 on Amazon. However, I'm ok with it because at the appointment the poor vet cleaned her ears. When Fluffpup shook her head, the gunk when everywhere, including her glasses. I had tactically taken a step back.

Fluffpup hates it. She's not scared of much but when she sees the bottle she scarpers.

Britintheusa · 18/07/2023 14:16

@Orangebadger my girl has super floppy ears which will only get longer. The vet gave us something called an ear cleanser . On the bottle it says "cleans dries and deodorizes the ear canal to exfoliate and penetrate dead skin cells, wax buildup and dirt." I lift her ears up and squirt a few drops in once a week. She doesn't like it but it's pretty quick and so far seems to be doing the trick. I also try to flip her ears up when she's sleeping sometimes to get a bit of cool air in there.

Riverlee · 18/07/2023 14:52

Nope, don’t do anything with ears. RiverPup has had some conjunctivitis. Dc (young adult) is the best at putting eye ointment in.

Did anyone else realise grass seed can be dangerous to dogs? Something else I never knew.

Riverlee · 18/07/2023 14:52

Forgot to say, Welcome little black lab.

Orangebadger · 18/07/2023 15:02

@Riverlee yes since Orangepups ordeal with one a few weeks ago. Especially dangerous if they get into a blood vessel. Get those buggers out!

Our council are part of a re wilding scheme so lots of uncut grass. Absolutely fantastic for the planet and local wildlife but not so great for the dogs.

BigBundleOfFluff · 18/07/2023 15:50

I only realised about grass seeds recently. Fluffpup is fond of hedge diving and having a good rummage in the grass so she comes home sticky from the sap (thankfully that seems to be over now) and covered in grass seeds. She'd never had an issue with her ears before so that's why I'd ask the vet to check - coincided with grass seed season.
We now sit on a bench before we go home to de grass seed and de burr her. She loves people watching so I can have a good rummage around in her fur while she judges people and dogs.
