Thought I would start another thread for all those puppy owners.

@BigBundleOfFluff
@Cocopuff

Will have to look back to tag others as cannot remember all names.

Lucky you, @BigBundleOfFluff , mine are too wee to abandon me yet!!

Yes I’m assuming stubbornness is a typical Goldie trait? We have to lift ours into car as he refuses to get in since a long trip at Easter he didn’t enjoy. He just plonks down and won’t budge, lies on his back to make it hard to pick him up (which is already hard at 27kg!)

Im glad to say he seems to be settling down a bit with the humpy stuff towards his pal today, looks like maybe some territorial posturing happening. It’s like your first baby, after a while you learn that most of the shit bits pass but first time you’re terrified this is it forever! Thanks for the support puppy gang.

Here they are, touching more appropriately!

Riverpup is coming up to a year (lab). Is a year too soon?

I think it’s too soon

Riverlee · 30/06/2023 13:57

@Beginningless Adorable. Is ‘Cousin pup’ a collie?

We find putting a boneo in the car entices RiverPup (food driven, greedy lab). Plus we’ve practised ‘up’ and ‘down’ upon the sofa so he gets to jumping up on command.

Beginningless · 30/06/2023 15:15

Yes he is @Riverlee , he’s a beautiful face you can’t see so well here. Treats in the boot used to work a treat, until we had the longer trip and now even cheese won’t do it. The hot weather hasn’t helped either as our car doesn’t have air con so any of the recent short trips haven’t been fun for him. We are getting a new car soon hopefully so maybe that will help!

CockapooMadness · 30/06/2023 16:21

@Riverlee I'm thinking of going down the chemical route first too. I like that it gives you a rough idea of what they will be like if they have it surgically done as I would hate for our pup's personality change.

Gizlotsmum · 30/06/2023 16:51

So out for a walk, narrow path. Three dogs (2 owners) coming the other way all was ok ( not too bouncy) then their off lead dog growls and barks and Gizlotpup freaks, back pedals and pulls me over. I was so embarrassed and realise I have no clue how to handle that situation.

Riverlee · 30/06/2023 17:20

I put myself inbetween myself and other dog and get RiverPup to sit until other dog has passed. Or I walk away in opposite direction. Fortunately though, I’ve not come across really aggressive dogs, more those just growl. Also, RiverPup has a ‘flight’ rather than ‘fight’ mentality and would be the one to back off and cower.

Hope you’re all okay. Did other owner quickly get hold of aggressive dog?

Gizlotsmum · 30/06/2023 17:31

Yes, I think Gizlotpup was in flight mode and went backwards which I wasn’t ready for! Will learn for the future

Britintheusa · 30/06/2023 17:54

Is 15 weeks a transition period?? Britpup has been absolutely insane the last two days just when it felt like things were evening out a little.

BigBundleOfFluff · 30/06/2023 18:18

Yup, I body block, veer to the side and sit and treat. Trying to teach a middle as well.
She would fight I think. Loads of yappy small dogs which bark at her, she ignores those with a cracking side eye. If anyone passing growls, she growls back. It's never escalated beyond that. She's more a "love the one you are with". Floozy.

Riverlee · 30/06/2023 18:29

@BigBundleOfFluff Whats a ‘middle’?

AnnieSnap · 30/06/2023 18:53

Sorry to read this @Gizlotsmum must have been a shock 😔

Lots of new people so quite exhausting

Awwwww, @tizwozliz, that makes me want to get another! 😍😍😍

BigBundleOfFluff · 30/06/2023 22:37

Aww melting Labrador's, what a lovely picture.
Welcome @iwantawisteriathisyear - she's so FLUFFY!!

iwantawisteriathisyear · 01/07/2023 07:31

Her fluffiness is a cunning plan to lure you in to going near her sharp fangs!!!

Riverlee · 01/07/2023 08:01

Welcome Wisteria pup - she looks so sweet and innocent!

Riverlee · 01/07/2023 08:01

@tizwozliz lovely photo.

Beginningless · 01/07/2023 09:04

Oh @Gizlotsmum , what a shame, were you hurt? I’m not sure there’s much you can do to handle that, you couldn’t have predicted that would happen. I’ve heard of reactions of off lead dogs to on lead dogs but not really seen that. My boy gets growled and barked at sometimes and tends to stand still with ears back but then goes in again, doesn’t take a hint to back off sometimes which worries me but nothing too unpleasant has happened fortunately.

@Riverlee @BigBundleOfFluff We call that move ‘peek’!

@Britintheusa i don’t recall it as a specific period but I know that progress wasn’t linear at that early stage, definitely felt we were getting somewhere and then would have an awful day with him that would make me cry and want to get rid of him! Hang in there.

lovely pics @tizwozliz and @iwantawisteriathisyear

Orangebadger · 01/07/2023 13:44

@Gizlotsmum sorry about your fall with pup, I think it's quite a steep leaning curve when they are young, even with experience of dogs as they are all so different. On a positive note at least Gizlotspup recognised the dog was not friendly and did not want to say hello. Orangepup has not yet learnt that a growl means bugger off and carry's on prancing around. I wish she would just walk away. 9 months today and still not learnt!

@tizwozliz oh my what a beautiful picture 😍😍

@iwantawisteriathisyear wisteria is gorgeous. I grew up with lots of westies, lovely dogs, very cheeky characters. Never seen one mixed with a poodle though, looks lovely.

So Orangepup is back to her old self. Went for her first park walk today and I'm clearly out of practice as only been doing pavement walks for 10 days! I dropped her lead while dealing with my son, by accident. She bolted straight to this young boy, around 8, I think his dad was in the toilet. Totally ignored my whistle and sausages call, and she stole his sandwich and ran off with it 😬😬😬 the absolute monkey! The shame and embarrassment! All I could think of was all these dog owner bashing threads on here about irresponsible owners, well that was me today! Luckily there a cafe in the park so replaced the poor boys stolen sarnie with a panini.

Florapup went to her second pre-vaccine puppy party at our vets this morning. She was very wary last week and wouldn’t leave our side. I suspect, at least party because our two Toy Poodles are so grumpy, to the point of being nasty with her. This week, she was much better, quickly coming out of her shell and joining in 🙂

Florapup has been horrendous with the biting since yesterday evening. This is the latest lump out of my arm, but there are many more smaller bites, scratches and bruises. It’s such hard work whenever she is awake. She was so hyper last night that she was unimaginable. We put her in her crate and she just barked for a hour. She has her second vaccination this afternoon. I’m hoping things might be a bit better when she can go for walks.
