How much does your dog shed? I can't figure out how mine isn't bald by now.

It's relentless, there is dog hair everywhere.
She's a lab pointer mix so a very short coat, but good god the hair 😳
She gets brushed with a Groomi every day and it just keeps coming as you're brushing her.
I had a long haired GS once and he wasn't this bad.
DD says you can get deshedding shampoo, does it work?

You should have got a yellow lab @Iamblossom - then the hair would have blended in with your sofa better 😀

Our sofa is dark grey so the hair doesn't really show up

You need one of these. Fluffy as anything but most of it doesn't fall out.

What is he/she? Cute as a button and reminds me of my Romanian rescue. She doesn’t moult either. But my lab makes up for her!

We really messed up. Our first family dog was a choc lab. We got rid of our sand coloured settees and got chocolate brown settees. Fab! Then we managed to get two yellow labs, two mainly white cats and a mainly white little dog. Failed!

tedgran · 30/01/2023 20:01

Used to have Great Danes they don't have an undercoat, so not so much shedding. DD has just lost her wire haired vizla, he didn't shed too badly.

ArticSaviour · 30/01/2023 20:09

I have a smooth collie. No-one mentions the hair until you are well and truly committed. The bugger can be groomed and deshedded and still come home and leave hair everywhere.

Still, they only moult twice a year: January to June and then July to December.

Leonberger · 30/01/2023 20:34

I’ve always had german shepherds which are bad…but the leonbergers are something else.

I hoover twice a day and still find hair everywhere!

ilovesushi · 30/01/2023 20:42

I have a lab goldie cross. So much hair! I need to hoover once a day. Of course I don't and little tumbleweeds of it collect in the hallway. I don't even notice the cat hair now. Given up on wearing acrylic socks as the hair sticks to them like glue and won't come off.

cravingtoblerone · 30/01/2023 20:45

Very little. We have a breed that needs stripping every three months. A deliberate choice. I can't be doing with massive clouds of floof everywhere. My friend's Golden Retriever seems to moult the equivalent of a rug daily...

PieonaBarm · 30/01/2023 22:28

Cocolapew · 30/01/2023 18:09

Ok @losingit31 when should I call round to collect?
I actually bought an attachment for my hoover that you brush your dog with but it doesn't fit.

We used to hoover our terrier with the brush attachment. He'd just stand still and let us do it! Now he's gone and I don't need to hoover as much I realise how much he shed!

Whatever you do don't lift your carpet and put Karndean down. You'll realise how much they shed and actually how minging your carpet must have been!!

Not at all - scruffy lurcher m. He’s half bedlington terrier and they don’t shed at all. it’s awesome… our last dog was a Labrador 😂

Cocolapew · 31/01/2023 09:59

Well I got a new cordless hoover today, I have joint problems and my Miele was a bit too heavy to use every day . It has a separate pet hair brush and my rug looks like new 😳.
Even better it was free from DHs work 🎉

We have a springer spaniel, this morning I went into our bedroom and swept up enough hair to stuff a pillow.

sparkiesparkle · 31/01/2023 22:24

German shepherd. Says it all
And I'm mad, getting another puppy from his breeder in the summer. I barely think about dog hair really, my boy is just lovely.

DixieSinclair · 01/02/2023 11:38

Lab x Springer here too and it’s relentless! I’ve given up wearing any other colour than black now so it doesn’t show up on my clothes. I also wonder how he’s not bald

None at all - one of the many delights of having a cockapoo

Highlighta · 01/02/2023 11:43

A shitload!

I can even tell which route he has taken in the house, and where he lay for a nap, by the trail of blonde hair.

He would never make a great spy. The amount of hair, the volume of the snoring...

And I can brush him every day and the same amount of hair will come off. Or every second day, or even once a week. It is still the same bagful amount. How does that work?

NotQuiteUsual · 02/02/2023 18:27

She's laying on half of it. This was just today's brushing. Yesterday's was just as bad. Help.

She looks deeply ashamed.

You could stuff a mattress with that

We have a collie and a terrier and the hair was everywhere. I've been giving them salmon oil in their kibble and it does seem to have reduce the shedding somewhat. It makes their coats lovely and soft, Maybe try that?

MavisFlump · 04/02/2023 11:03

My Romanian rescue never stops moulting. She’s double coated and even with daily brushing it doesn’t seem to reduce.

Not at all - scruffy lurcher m. He’s half bedlington terrier and they don’t shed at all. it’s awesome… our last dog was a Labrador 😂

The Lurcher we had that was part beddie was the same, wispy fur that didn’t shed and super-fine, short, silky greyhoundy almost bald belly and inner legs. He was light coloured but you could easily wear an all black outfit and hug him without needing to defuzz your outfit.

Our other Lurcher was a real mix, scruffy, long-coated and the worst shedder we’ve ever had. We literally had tumbleweed everywhere and a liberal covering of fur all over the floor, despite constant grooming. We found the Groomi best for keeping on top of it, but still had fur everywhere.

Current pup is a single coated toy breed. He barely sheds and anything he does looks like the occasional stray eyelash. It’s a revelation not to have to constantly vacuum and empty the vacuum cleaner cylinder twice a day! The trade off is that he spends half his life buried under blankets that then smell a bit doggy and need to be washed regularly and he needs fleeces and coats for the winter months, which also need to be laundered regularly.

DMCWelshcakes · 15/02/2023 10:26

Our bork potato is a champion shedder. You can get a whole other corgi out of him every day.

In our house it's known as corgi glitter and it gets absolutely everywhere. The robovac needs very regular emptying.

He's amazing though and I knew what I was getting into before we got him. We've slso got domestic shorthair cats that moult everywhere too, so I guess we're used to it.

Beautiful pictures Smile

We got a Roomba to pick up the lab hair. We have an 'emptying the Roomba' ceremony each day where we empty the canister and exclaim over how much hair it's picked up. Where does it all come from?! How is ddog not bald?
