How much does your dog shed? I can't figure out how mine isn't bald by now.

It's relentless, there is dog hair everywhere.
She's a lab pointer mix so a very short coat, but good god the hair 😳
She gets brushed with a Groomi every day and it just keeps coming as you're brushing her.
I had a long haired GS once and he wasn't this bad.
DD says you can get deshedding shampoo, does it work?

That face ❤️
Labs are known for being chronic shedders aren't they? (That's not very helpful of me).
I'd have thought daily brushing would help a bit.
My old dog was doubled coated and even the groomer gave up after an hour of solid combing and she was still shedding.

Hoppinggreen · 30/01/2023 12:04

I have a Golden Retriever
Tells you all you need to know

Blixem · 30/01/2023 12:07

I've got a lab x springer. I swear I could make another dog with the amount of hair he sheds.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 30/01/2023 12:08

She’s so cute! I have a lab too and he sheds the equivalent of a full dog’s worth of hair every day. That’s a slight exaggeration but it feels that way. I don’t know why he doesn’t just keep his fur instead of waist of energy growing new fur all the time!

Cocolapew · 30/01/2023 12:10

My last dog was a lab cocker cross and I thought she was bad.
@Hoppinggreen I would love a GR but the long hair puts me off 😄.
I might get a black carpet so you can't see it 🤔

Oh she’s gorgeous @Cocolapew. I have a full lab and he is moulting like a bastard at the moment. Despite a good brush with a zoomgroom after every walk (outdoors!), the house is covered in white hair (he is of the paler variety). Same for my clothes, car and soft furnishings. My poor hoover is working overtime but I might as well not bother.

Giggorata · 30/01/2023 12:12

Two labs = hair city.
Plus another larger hairier beast.
Woe.

To be fair it kind of collects in clumps (we don’t have carpets) so you can just pick it up - but it is plentiful

DeepfriedPizza · 30/01/2023 12:18

We have a rescue mixed breed which is short haired and oh my god the hair we had and we brushed all the time. Then we started getting her groomed, we didn't think she needed it as she wasn't that kind of dog but what a difference a monthly groom makes. She gets a full wash and blow dry, her nails trimmed if needed and I would never give it up now. We were hoovering twice daily before and now we don't need to!

Cocolapew · 30/01/2023 12:19

@LynneBenfield I just hoovered too, I might as well went around blowing it about the house.
I used to make puppies with my last dogs hair.

My dad has a black lab and honestly there is just hair everywhere . You would need to hoover every minute of the day and you'd still find hair somewhere.

Cocolapew · 30/01/2023 12:20

I think because her hair is short its worse because it sticks in material.
I might get a GR after all then.

You should, they are the best

OllytheCollie · 30/01/2023 12:39

I knew there would be a lab involved before I opened the thread. our last dog was a yellow lab. She was fabulous so we tolerated the fact she was a mud coated pile of fuzz. Like you we used to make new dogs out of the fluff.

Current dog is a collie, a moderate shedding breed. She blows our her coat twice a year and those are hairy times. The rest of the time its just normal hoovering.

Maverickess · 30/01/2023 12:47

I have a JRT, short and wiry hair that seems to have a life of it's own and burrows into fabric so even a lint roller is ineffective for the most stubborn, and she constantly seems to be shedding, and likes a really good roll on a freshly hoovered carpet which is bliss 🤦she shakes and it's like it's snowing.
So I can only imagine what a larger dog with more hair produces!
I bath her regularly and brush probably every other day because it's not really a welfare thing she needs it for, more for me, but she walks past me and there's a lovely load of hair then clinging to my black trousers and I can see it floating around in the air when I'm hoovering!
Wouldn't be without her though 💓

SBHon · 30/01/2023 12:47

How often do they get a professional groom? A good blast with the groomer’s dryer could help (And be one day less that you need to be in charge of brushing.)

Corgiowner · 30/01/2023 13:03

Mine (a cardigan corgi so double coated and thick fur like a German shepherd) sheds like nothing on this earth as he walks along hairs constantly drop off him. I recently had him at the dog groomers and asked for him to have a really good comb/dry and she was stunned at how much she got out I was hoping that this would reduce the amount he shed in the house and it didn't make a scrap of difference. If I don't hoover ALOT it blows across my floors (i have mainly wooden floors thanks God) like tumbleweed. I amazed he isn't bald. The weirdest bit he's mainly black but all the hairs are white.

tizwozliz · 30/01/2023 13:17

Not nearly as much as I was expecting, even though she's a lab. I brought a grooming rake and it was a total disappointment. Based on experiences with other labs I was expecting to get mountains of hair when I brushed!

plominoagain · 30/01/2023 13:24

Dalmatian. Dear God almighty . Short white needles that get into every fabric in the house , even though she's brushed daily . Filter on the machine gets cleared every three days and still everywhere . She's never been in my car and yet it's got white hair in it . We got a runaround just to transport her in and when it's full of hair I'm going to just scrap it Grin

I screamed 😂
I used to have a corgi, it's like I had two, one in the shape of a lovely boy, the other one scattered everywhere around the flat. My boy died 18 months ago and I still find hair in some places.

Now I have a little terrier who doesn't shed much, I can't express how smug I am at the moment.

Your girl is adorable though!

Cocolapew · 30/01/2023 13:36

I've never had a dog professionally groomed 😳, there's a dog wash place near me where you do it yourself. I might take her and give her a blast.
I always get compliments on how shiny she is 🤷

Two labs here and I feel your pain, drives me nuts, I've just cleaned shower room by hand and it was so hairy and they don't even go in there.

Stellaris22 · 30/01/2023 14:35

Basset Hound here, it's constant sweeping in our house.

PugInTheHouse · 30/01/2023 14:35

I have an alaskan malamute, there is fluff everywhere, it doesn't stock to clothes as badly as my pugs hair though as that's more wirey. I have a scraper tool I got from amazon, it gets the fur off the carpet better than the hoover!
