@Autumn101 that sounds amazing! Great you can swim with your dog!

Our doggo is flaked out on the sofa. She has been in and out all day basking herself in the full sun for a bit, then coming in and flopping out on the cool floor. The cats have stayed put under the fruit bushes all day. Usually they sleep on the beds in the daytime but maybe it's too hot upstairs even with the curtains closed. I did some kibble scattering in the shade at one point for the dog, and one of the cats came out to snuffle for biscuits too. Despite their fur coats they all seem very happy.

Yamyam13 · 18/07/2022 20:43

Took yammpup out this morning at 6.30am and she had a lovely run around with a friend... she's bugging out for another walk though but it's not going under 26 degrees all night here in London so can't see a walk happening until tomorrow evening when it finally cools!
Do you think it's ok to take her for a 10 mins sniff?

Aria20 · 18/07/2022 21:08

@Yamyam13 opposite our house is shaded woodland we did 10 mins onlead just now as she hates toileting in the garden. It is a lot cooler than earlier but it was very very stuffy and I found it uncomfortable let alone pup in her fur! We came home and I put little chopped up sausage pieces in her water to encourage her to drink. She's now asleep on her cool mat in front of fan. We'll hopefully go in to the woods around 6.15 even just for 15 mins

We have a little park right behind our house so I just took her for an on lead sniffy walk, and for her pooh as she also does not like to go in the garden. I figured it's finally cooler outside than inside where she was going bonkers and running round, so it made sense. Now on her cool mat with a frozen licky mat! (There have been lots of extra calories today...!)

GuyFawkesDay · 18/07/2022 22:29

I hosepiped FawkesPup down and we had an onlead sniffy potter round the park next to our house (very lucky!) At 9:30pm That's sorted his pestering to go out.

Another 5am start for early walk!! At least there's only tomorrow to have to negotiate now. Once Wednesday is here life is back to normal, thank God!

tizwozliz · 18/07/2022 23:02

We've just been for a wander up the street, she looked so disappointed when she realised that when we asked if she wanted to go out it was just into the garden for wees that we couldn't refuse. Down to 24, feels quite cool and pleasant!

DH took the pup for a swim this morning. At one point the ball that the pup was meant to fetch became completely waterlogged and sank out of sight. DH had to swim out and encourage him to come back as he would have kept looking for the ball. This is a pup who takes the game of fetch very seriously indeed.

He's also been to the vet because of a recurring issue with vomiting every few days in the past couple of weeks. He's fine in himself, no other symptoms, and he's still on the same food he's always had. The vet was as puzzled as we are and suggested a switch to a different food to see how he gets on. I hope he will be O.K., I'm a bit worried about him.

SirChenjins · 19/07/2022 05:49

Sleep.

Half past fucking 4 this morning.

SirChenjins · 19/07/2022 05:51

In my sleep deprived haze what I meant was - why won’t he sleep?

GuyFawkesDay · 19/07/2022 06:45

Is he on a cool mat? Mine has vetbed in one half of crate and cool mat in other and is sleeping fine on that as he's got space to choose either side or a mix.

I am worried he now thinks 5:30am is his new permanent walk time

Autumn101 · 19/07/2022 07:25

We had our first night out of the crate last night, he just couldn’t settle. Left him in the kitchen and hallway and didn’t hear a peep until I got up at 5.30am (couldn’t sleep and wanted to get him out for an early walk). No accidents or chewed items so I was very proud of him!

GuyFawkesPup - I’m also a bit worried 5.30am starts and walks are going to get him thinking that’s the new normal!!!

SirChenjins · 19/07/2022 07:41

@GuyFawkesDay no he’s not, but I think we will need to get one

tizwozliz · 19/07/2022 08:21

The temp ended up dropping further than forecast here so we had a lovely walk at 6:30am. I'm now in the hammock drinking coffee and pup is sleeping underneath :-)

We thought that the heat might mean Ada would choose to sleep on the floor or in her own bed, but on top of us is still favoured! The OH lay on her cooling mat.

The last warm spell was the reason Yampup spent her first night out of her crate.. we managed to get her back knto it for a while, until a week in a cone of shame meant she couldn't comfortably get into it anymore so she got very used to having the living room & sofa to herself and there was no going back! No more crate.

We went away this weekend for the first time to an air bnb and she slept on her bed in our room with us which worked out fine. I had been really worried

Autumn101 · 19/07/2022 14:04

Glad to hear your weekend away worked well .I do wonder if he will go back into the crate now, he has always loved it but last week or so has been more reluctant and was having none of it last night! I would prefer to stop using it, if we go away it’s a real pain having to take it with us……..

SirChenjins · 19/07/2022 14:08

We gave up on the crate a while back and he’s now sleeping in our room on a blanket - something I said we’d never do. He’s now trying to move onto the bed with us - although I’m putting my foot down I know he does it, I’m just half asleep and don’t want to wake fully to push him off as I have peri menopausal insomnia and can’t get back to sleep once I’m awake ☹️

Autumn101 · 19/07/2022 14:35

Oh god the peri insomnia is awful, totally with you on that!! The cat likes to sleep with us so I don’t want him in our room really, wouldn’t mind him being in with one of the DC though

SirChenjins · 19/07/2022 14:47

Oh it’s awful, isn’t it? I can well understand you not wanting him in the room with you if your cat is in there, it would be Armageddon!
After waking up at 4.30 ChenPup is now happily sleeping the afternoon away while I’m trying (unsuccessfully) to focus on work. I’m not feeling the puppy love today.

Looks like one of our favourite dog walking woods is on fire 😢

Oh no tiz, that's sad

SirChenjins · 19/07/2022 16:25

Oh no @tizwozliz, that’s awful 😢 - is that due to the weather?

Autumn101 · 19/07/2022 16:30

That’s terrible, I hope it hasn’t caused too much damage

tizwozliz · 19/07/2022 16:36

@SirChenjins - not sure whether the weather has caused it but I'm pretty sure it's why it's taken hold. It's 39 degrees and very windy here.

certainshepherdpups · 19/07/2022 16:49

Oh no@tizwozliz. How awful.

My pup's tummy troubles are continuing. After 4 days of no vomiting, I introduced a bit of dog food mixed with chicken and rice, as advised by the vet. The pup threw up again today. Sad I wish I knew what was wrong and how to help him. I'm quite worried now. Sad

SirChenjins · 19/07/2022 16:57

Oh no @certainshepherdpups , I hope he’s feeling better soon. I found chicken and rice made our pup’s stomach worse, but some plain white fish helped. It’s really worrying though. Is he ok otherwise?
