We went for an ice cream this afternoon so Ada had a nice nap in the air conditioned car and then went and had a splash in the river.

On the way back to the car she ran into a barbed wire fence. Didn't see any damage at the time but when we got home noticed she's got a cut on her forehead. Don't think it needs any attention, will see how it looks in the morning.

Oof, poor Ada! Hope she's OK xx

FawkesPup has had a nice chill this afternoon, he's basically wallowed in his pool and dropped round the house for a fair bit of it. Still, he's not pestered for walks so much!

PugInTheHouse · 10/07/2022 22:48

@Aria20 I hope so too! He is huge, will probably be at least 20kg bigger fully grown. He's a sweet boy but very determined.

Aria20 · 11/07/2022 08:53

@tizwozliz ouch poor thing.

Does heat make softer poop or has mint got an upset tummy?

tizwozliz · 11/07/2022 11:03

@Aria20 I think the heat can make them a bit loose sometimes

The cut looks to have scabbed over this morning so think it will be fine. We only knew she'd run into the fence as I heard the twang, she didn't make any sound and didn't find the cut until we got home!

I keep trying to find nice shaded places with water for morning walks whilst it's hot but she keeps finding whippets to run around like a loon with.

We had final gundog class today (moved to the wooded dog walking place) and as FawkesPup had been inside since 7am he was basically a loud shouty numpty with FOMO when it wasn't his turn to go retrieve, made the trainer laugh at him (she has spaniels!!)

Apparently he has got patience for a spaniel (this is news to me!).

Just had an hour pootling in the park, so hopefully he will be ok now.

Another early start tomorrow morning for long walks!

Aria20 · 11/07/2022 22:01

@GuyFawkesDay mine has been a pain in the bum tonight too with cabin fever! We went for an early short walk and she slept basically all day but come evening was hyper jumping and running around and throwing her lamb braid around woofing at it! Training etc didn't help eventually we went for a short walk this evening so I hope she sleeps!

Yampup did the exact same!

Aria20 · 12/07/2022 05:59

Argh she was up at 5.20!! Full of energy and hungry as she didn't eat much in the heat yesterday. It's going to be even hotter today so she'll prob be same again this evening. I'm ok with early walks but it means she's ready for another walk at 4/5pm and it's just too hot then and keeping her waiting another 4 hours is hard work as it's dinner/bath/bed for the 4yo and dog being hyper when everyone is hot and bothered doesn't help!

Yamyam13 · 12/07/2022 12:24

Yeah mine gets antsy right at that time of day when i'm getting exhausted yet have a to start the marathons of school runs and dinner etc!

I've been managing to tire Yampup out with lots of indoor enrichment - namely gave her a giant cardboard box with some blankets inside and chucked some kibble in it. She spent 5 minutes inside sniffinf out kibble then 15 minutes tearinf the box apart and then passed out. Shredding things like that seems to really exhaust her, give it a go!

Aria20 · 12/07/2022 13:30

@Yamyam13 this used to work for mine too... she's older now tho - 17 months and sadly it doesn't seem to do the trick anymore...

ilovesushi · 13/07/2022 18:46

Our pup spent the day at daycare diving for toys and balls in the dog pool and playing in the sprinkler. She is now stretched out on the kitchen floor tiles keeping cool.
Yesterday was very difficult as I had her at home and I was working all day. I couldn't take her out first thing and then it got too hot. I'll get out early with her tomorrow and head for a stream so she can have a dip.
@tizwozliz Ada is beautiful! Our doggo is the same age (Feb birthday) and also loves water and sticks!

tizwozliz · 13/07/2022 20:01

I'm not enjoying having to really think about timing of walks but otherwise we're all coping with the heat ok, although her thieving has increased! As well as less walking I'm not doing any sort of retrieve practice in the garden so I guess she's a little bored.

Pup ate her paddling pool so we don't have that anymore but she rarely did much more than get her front paws wet in it anyway.

OP posts:
Aria20 · 13/07/2022 20:20

@tizwozliz mine used to only put her front paws in a paddling pool too. We've just been for a slow sniff walk and did some training on the walk but sadly it hasn't calmed her she's running around the front room throwing a yak chew around tonight!

Aria20 · 13/07/2022 20:21

Have had to confiscate the yak chew and tell pup to go on her bed. Hopefully she'll crash out soon....

Autumn101 · 14/07/2022 06:30

Starting to feel the effects of a few days of much less walking - pup was great to start but so mischievous yesterday! I couldn’t turn my back without him doing something he knows he shouldn’t 😂 finally settled about 11pm (normally 9.30!) and has been up since 5.30am yawn………

Aria20 · 14/07/2022 10:51

@Autumn101 mine is the same! Up anywhere from 5am and this is making me want to go to bed early but of course she's still awake late. No matter how much training/mental stimulation I do in the evenings it's no substitute to her Confused

tizwozliz · 14/07/2022 11:35

Lack of exercise doesn't seem to keep Ada up any later, she's just not as well behaved when she's awake. She was asleep before 9 yesterday and we debated waking her to take out but left her to sleep in the end.

Enjoying my Facebook memories of this time last year

Much cooler today so we've been for our evening walk already and Ada's already started her pre-bedtime snooze.

Here is mine cooling off in the lake... totally not trying to chase ducks.... If she wasn't on the lead she'd prob have been right in! It's supposed to be 35 here Monday and 37 Tuesday Confused

FawkesPup has had a good couple of days of longer walks in the cooler weather here, he's enjoyed himself.

Going to get my mate's clippers on him this weekend and just cut his elbows and floofy tum/chest bits shorter before it gets baking hot. Hopefully it'll help him cool off more easily.

Those with early wakers, FawkesPup drive me mad with this but all of a sudden it shifted to 6:30/7an which is acceptable in my eyes. Hang in there, hopefully yours will too.mhes not even been waking super early this week even with reduced walks

tizwozliz · 18/07/2022 11:36

Going to be a long day, pup keeps asking to go outside every 5 mins. I'm letting her out once in a while in case she needs the toilet but she's going out and baking herself!

OP posts:
Aria20 · 18/07/2022 12:19

@tizwozliz tell me about it... we went out before 7am for half hour and it was already very warm. She keeps trying to get me to throw her ball!

mrsfeatherbottom · 18/07/2022 14:27

I'm in NI and it's not as hot as England but still warm enough!

Does anyone else's pup eat less in the warm weather?

Autumn101 · 18/07/2022 15:38

I luckily managed to get a slot in a local private indoor dog pool this morning - water was lovely and cool so we had a half hour swim together. It really tired pup out as he’s not done much swimming before so he’s been relatively calm since with plenty of dozes. I’ve also hidden all his balls or he’d be wanting constant fetch in the garden 😂

No appetite changes here but he’s an exceptionally greedy boy
