@certainshepherdpups my arsehole hound dog is the same.

I'm just moving his kibble to a different brand. I think after nearly a year he might be a bit bored of the same flavours. Had a sample of this new one and he practically inhaled it.

Aria20 · 11/04/2022 19:27

@certainshepherdpups I do wonder if it's connected to being spayed as she never did it before!

tizwozliz · 11/04/2022 22:39

Is that the Essential food @GuyFawkesDay ? What flavour have you gone for?

Bit of drama last night, wolfpup decided to bite his pen, he must have twisted and he got his mouth stuck between the bars, he was crying and pugpup was going crazy (scared/angry at the noise?) I managed to get his mouth straight to get him out. It was horrible and also a bit worrying going forward as we were hoping we could leave him in the pen during the early days but maybe not now.

No idea why he did it, the door wasn't closed or anything, and on the occasions we have closed it he's been fine as its when he is eating and he happily sits and waits for me to open it.

GuyFawkesDay · 12/04/2022 10:48

@tizwozliz gone nautical living for first bag. He loves his fish!

tizwozliz · 12/04/2022 12:17

She's decided to stop eating her Acana today but happily ate some fish4dogs stuff. So thinking I'll just get something different, we can pick a 3kg bag of nautical living up in store in Denmark. She's never been affected by dietary changes (apart from over consumption of sheep poo at training!) thus far so I'm not too concerned about something new, plus 3kg should just be the right size to see us through holidays

I never thought feeding would be the most stressful part of owning a lab!

OP posts:
PugInTheHouse · 12/04/2022 12:32

I find feeding really stressful, knowing how much to give, which ones are good etc. People have fed cheap food for years to cats and dogs and they have always been fine, there is so much information online and often the vets contradict this info so it's so confusing. We bought the expensive vet food as the pug was overweight and he hated it so its so tricky! Loves Royal Canin pug food, it's really expensive but apparently its full of crap.

LadyCatStark · 12/04/2022 17:41

We’ve started raw feeding Billy and he loves it so much. He’s never been in bad condition but now he’s in stunning condition and he’s only been on raw for 2-3 weeks.

We went to an indoor arena that you can hire for agility today and suffice to say he loves it!

@tizwozliz because I have a doggy business email now I can get a discount on Essential too. It's lovely food.

I've put down the Eden and some wet and he's just picked at it tonight. Partly I think he's just scrounging for human food.

I like the idea of raw @LadyCatStark but lack of freezer space is my major problem, that and a typically licky spaniel!

ABitBesottedWithMyDog · 12/04/2022 19:03

I cook a lot for the dog. The only supermarket wet food she will eat is the revolting smelling Butchers "tripe" can, so she has that once or twice a week when I run out of other stuff. She loves the leftovers from the Sunday roast (and all veg except peas) so that takes care of another day. Otherwise I cook her stews and soups based on meat, plus liver every two weeks or so. Essentially meat plus shredded veg, plus homemade chicken stock or water. She also loves chicken thighs, eggs and so on. But she will not touch most dry food and I have tried a lot of types at this point. It would be so easy to just open a packet of biscuits. The only time she has vomited though was after eating some of the vet-recommended stuff... so I am not at all convinced that expensive/reputable = good.

LadyCatStark · 12/04/2022 19:13

We’re lucky @GuyFawkesDay that we live around the corner from a country pet shop so they can keep the food in the freezer for me and an just pop in every few days ( or every day if Billy gets his way!) and pick up a few packs. Honestly, the difference in him in just a few weeks is massive and he’s always had a lot of real meat and fish etc. he’s got muscles on his muscles 😂 (and as someone who works out a lot, I’m very jealous!).

Aria20 · 12/04/2022 19:31

That agility place looks amazing @LadyCatStark

LadyCatStark · 12/04/2022 20:29

@Aria20 it was brilliant, I’m sure it’ll become our go to wet weather place 😂.

Aria20 · 12/04/2022 21:45

@LadyCatStark like soft play for dogs. Wish there was similar here!

LadyCatStark · 12/04/2022 22:25

@Aria20 yes basically 😂 although DS also enjoyed playing on the equipment! Billy was absolutely knackered tonight too which is a bonus!

GuyFawkesDay · 13/04/2022 19:31

Is it LK9 @LadyCatStark? I've heard good things about it!

LadyCatStark · 13/04/2022 20:46

@GuyFawkesDay no we’re about 40 mins north of Lytham but I’ve just googled it and it does look good! We might pop to St Anne’s sand dunes on Friday so we’ll have to call in!

LadyCatStark · 15/04/2022 18:23

Where’s everyone gone?? Billy enjoyed his first boat trip on Lake Windermere today 🥰. He also loved swimming in the lake and yes, he did jump on off the boat for a swim and then shake all over us when he was hauled back in 😂.

Great picture @LadyCatStark. He certainly looks as though he'd like to launch himself into the water!

My pup has started to do a funny thing. His food and water bowls are on the floor in the kitchen. He has started to lie down to eat and drink. It probably isn't good for him (though it looks very cute). I'm not sure what to do, since there is some controversy about elevated feeders and the risk of bloat.

tizwozliz · 15/04/2022 20:05

We're at Harwich waiting to get on an overnight ferry to the Netherlands. Pup has run off some energy at the beach so hopefully will sleep most of the trip.

We’re enjoying the start of the long weekend. Had a quick walk this morning and then out for the rest of it at a country park. Mac had a great time and found it all very tiring. Pic of him in the afternoon while the kids ran through the sprinkler 😂

Is anyone planning to or already running with their pup? Hoping to with Mac but waiting until he’s past 12 months and most of his growing is done —been counting down the weeks since we got him—

PugInTheHouse · 15/04/2022 21:53

Loving all these pictures.

Wolfpup has settled in so well, slept through the last through nights which is nice, he behaves so well. We went for dinner at the pub and he was great, pugpup not so much, he still barks at everyone walking past, he hates people leaving, he just gets so anxious. He loves people so much but he just can't cope if people aren't giving him attention. It's only when we're out, at home we could have loads of people round and he'd be fine. It's so stressful!

tizwozliz · 15/04/2022 22:01

We're on the ship!
