The other thread is full and I can’t see a new one! Hope it’s OK to start one. I’m actually barely surviving puppyhood, actually teenagerhood, this week 🤬😡😭.

yay lucky blahpup!

Blahblahblah40 · 09/02/2022 12:27

Beast has awoken… send help.

ABitBesottedWithMyDog · 09/02/2022 12:56

Ha! Demanding walkies?

I do feel my dog is going to regret chewing up her lovely lead in a few weeks when she's allowed out.Grin

ABitBesottedWithMyDog · 09/02/2022 12:57

I tried that treat-hiding game which is a tray of toilet rolls (always save them for growing sweet peas) with a few treats hidden.

Pup ignored the treats but had a brilliant time ripping up the lovely cardboard and leaving it all over the house.

SirChenjins · 09/02/2022 13:04

Woohoo @Blahblahblah40 - onwards and upwards!!

We have puppy training classes tonight - pray for us. £125 I've paid for the privilege of watching ChenPup bark at the other dogs, wolf down the treats in a half-arsed manner, ignore my attempts to get him to do any of the exercises, and return to barking at the other dogs. By the end of the session I'm a sweaty, humiliated mess, full of hatred for ChenPup, the other well behaved dogs, and their smuggy mcsmugface owners. £125

I made the mistake of leaving an Amazon box lying around… won’t be doing that again. 😂
Blahblahblah40 · 09/02/2022 13:11

@SirChenjins 😂 oh dear… bloody expensive isn’t it!! I’ve found one that’s £80 but only 4 weeks so might try that and see how Blahpup gets on. He is obsessed with both people and other dogs though so I’m not holding out much hope. Someone ignored him at the bus stop this morning and he was not a happy bunny.

SirChenjins · 09/02/2022 13:16

@Blahblahblah40 - hope it goes well for you if you do go!

I had visions of him interacting nicely with the other dogs and me making lifelong friends with some of the other dog owners. Instead we're probably the ones being left out of a class WhatsApp group someone's set up as they all talk about that godawful cockapoo and how they're glad he's not theirs.

ABitBesottedWithMyDog · 09/02/2022 13:29

How very dare they.Grin

Everything crossed for ChenPup. Naughtiness is a sign of intelligence, right?

Aria20 · 09/02/2022 14:16

It really is 1 step forward 2 back! Mine is 1 on Saturday and seems like we have a few weeks of excellent behaviour, nice walking, good recall etc then back to random barking, trying to pull and ignoring me! Last night she stole another dogs ball and ran around the field with it ignoring me and same today - luckily different peoples dogs and in a different place! I do not throw a ball for her as once she has a ball in her mouth that's it she doesn't listen and treats are worthless, however I carry a ball in my pocket for emergencies as I know she will recall for it but bloody hell stealing other dogs balls and running off grrrr then of course she won't even recall for her ball as the stolen ball is better! Bloody dogs!

tizwozliz · 09/02/2022 14:16

Our training classes have all worked out about £10 a session, some of these classes seem really expensive.

SirChenjins · 09/02/2022 14:52

£125 for 6 sessions here - I’m a mug Sad The trainers came highly recommended but we haven’t really got anything out of them. 3 or 4 x 1:1 sessions would have been better I think.

Autumn101 · 09/02/2022 15:07

Our group sessions are £12 each, apparently she works wonders so here’s hoping! First one is this Saturday and I’m going without the dog as he’s not fully vaccinated yet. Apparently a few of us are in same position but she thinks we should start training ASAP so to come anyway

Goawayangryman · 09/02/2022 15:12

£120 for six weeks of KC Bronze Good Citizen here, pretty good classes I think. And then additional one-to-one with another trainer, £50 an hour. It's cost a lot more than I thought, this training lark ... but probably necessary given it's our first family dog.

Handsfullofholes · 09/02/2022 15:17

We’ve paid £80 for 8 weeks of the KC Puppy Foundation which seems fairly good. We’ve already had two drop outs in the class of 8 though!

Then next step up is 6 weeks of Bronze plus the exam for £60 which I think is fairly decent too.

SirChenjins · 09/02/2022 15:25

They sound more reasonably priced, I’ll definitely look into them. He does need a bit (lot) more input but I can’t be shelling out £125 for ChenPup to bark solidly for an hour each week.

567and · 09/02/2022 15:58

Wow, those classes are expensive! We paid £10 membership for the year and then the class is £24 for 9 weeks! Not sure how much the bronze KC class is next though. They also do agility and gun dog training which I originally wanted to progress to, but not sure I can take the weekly stress and humiliation 😂

Sounds like my puppy has some kindred spirits on here! We too bought a Halti on recommendation, but need to slowly introduce it as he paws at it when he’s wearing it. In the mean time, we are doing the ‘stop when he pulls’ thing and a short walk now takes twice as long…. Oh, and his spaniel love of water has finally come out. After trotting round every single puddle for months he’s now taken to splashing in them all! Yet another hose down in the garden!

certainshepherdpups · 09/02/2022 17:31

I wanted to share an amusing incident with all of you. Yesterday on our walk I stopped to chat with some children in the neighbourhood. One of them said, "Didn't you used to have a smaller dog?" I said, "No, he's just grown a lot since the last time you saw him!" Grin It really brought home to me how much the pup has grown!

And a less amusing incident. While I was working from home yesterday, the pup became completely wild when I had to log into a meeting on Zoom. He absolutely demanded my attention. Fortunately, my colleagues were understanding but it was frustrating nonetheless. As soon as the meeting was over he calmed down instantly, looking at me as though butter wouldn't melt in his mouth. Hmm

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 09/02/2022 17:44

90 pounds for 6 classes here
We are at an 'adult beginners class' as we didn't get him until he was 6 months
I am in two minds about whether it's worth it. On the one hand they aren't telling me anything I hadn't already found on YouTube but on the other hand it's an opportunity to practice with his nemesis of other dogs. If he can obey there the theory is he can do it anywhere.
Last week he did recall in class but he did it in such a grumpy teenage way that everyone was laughing. The good dogs bounded over enthusiastically when called. My dog had a bit of a look around and then gently ambled towards me stopping somewhere in my general vicinity and throwing a glance in my direction in case he could get a treat for that.
He also has a great 'humph' noise that he makes when he decides to lie down after his bad behaviour has been ignored. It is very akin to the noise teen DD makes
Next thing I know she'll teach him to eye roll

Autumn101 · 09/02/2022 17:52

Love your dogs attitude, very teen like 😂

Reassurance needed here - puppy was sick a few times in quick succession this afternoon, was all food from his lunch. He seems fine now, wagging and playing as normal but I’m worrying! He does race around the garden and grab stuff but I’m hoping if it was anything serious he’d be acting ill or still being sick wouldn’t he?? It’s so like being a brand new mum again……..

Sickness in hand with lethargy and/or not drinking I’d be concerned with. But sounds like pup just needed to get out whatever was bothering him. Maybe try something gentle on the tummy and enticing for dinner. Scramble an egg? Maybe some carrot?
Blahblahblah40 · 09/02/2022 18:28

Oh and keep an eye obviously, but don’t need to tell you that. You’ll probably not leave his side for the next 24 hours 😂

Autumn101 · 09/02/2022 19:05

He’s drinking fine and gave him a light dinner about 1.5 hours ago and all seems fine so far 🤞🤞

GuyFawkesDay · 09/02/2022 19:10

Good to see my swampdonkey spaniel isn't the only one 😂😂😂

We are back to KC bronze next week we paid £15 to register and £10 a class and we can mix and match dates and locations until we do the assessment. Think puppy classes were £80 for the 6 which I thought was ok too.

FawkesPup has gone back to humping the cushions but to be fair to him he's a good boy...most of the time.

The dog soap has come out AMAZING!! Well chuffed. Done a mint, lemon and chamomile 'fresh' one and next batch I think I'll make a sensitive blend, see which works. Have given some to colleagues with pooches and horses to try out!

Lol at the teenage attitude from your moppet @CovoidOfAllHumanity Grin Ground him, take away his phone and cut screen time. It’s the only way.

That soap looks amazing @GuyFawkesDay Smile Do you have an Etsy shop or anything? I’d be very interested if you did.

So I’m delighted to report ChenPup was an absolute star at puppy classes. Only barked a few times, did all his tasks, I was quite puffed up with pride. The trick seems to be not to feed him beforehand so he was starving and happy to do anything for a bit of frozen salmon pate.
